I don't think the prospects are all that bad. It's being produced by Legendary (who gave us THE DARK KNIGHT and BATMAN BEGINS) and distributed by Warner Brothers (the studio smart enough to give Clint Eastwood and Stanley Kubrick lifetime contracts to do whatever the hell they wanted). These are people who treat their acquired properties with the utmost respect. Remember, folks that this could have been made by 20th Century Fox, who has absolutely no respect for their audience and whose line of butchered properties range from FANTASTIC FOUR to X-MEN to the unspeakable crime that was MAX PAYNE.

Plus it's a little too early to hit the panic button just quite yet. At least not until they give us a director. Someone mentioned Kathryn Bigelow, and given how female intensive the ME series has been so far, and how entrenched in genre filmmaking that Bigelow is, I think that's a great idea. So until we come to the day where they announce that Paul W.S. Anderson is doing ME, let's keep our drawers undoused.

4) Predict the worst, forget about it all, see the first teaser trailer in two years time, facepalm a lot, see the movie, feel cheated.

But...

Know in your heart that no matter how much Hollywood may bend the franchise over a barrel and rape it like a viking horde descending on an old English coastal town, they will never take our memories away; of our Shepards (who look nothing like whatever Hollywood It-Twit they cast in the lead, sometimes with different genders and racial backgrounds) defeating the Reapers once and for all... of making the most noble of sacrifices, of fighting right down to the wire, of risking it all, and maybe surviving to ride off into the sunset with that special someone in their lives (who may well just have exceptionally short hair and a lot of body art). Whatever happens, that is ours. Always.

No movie, no matter how terrible, will ever take that away from the fanbase. Regardless of how much they might f*ck it all up... it'll be ours before it was ever theirs ^_^

That confident in the movie, huh?

I suppose you have a point there, Royce, but this is science fiction we're talking about; a genre that much like horror gets screwed more often than not.

Bigelow did Strange Days, yeah?

Oh, Paul WS Anderson... at least Event Horizon was decent. Talk about shooting your bolt early :D

Merely confident in the ability of studios to ruin things. I'm a cynical b*tch - sue me ;)

The last huge sci-fi flick with a hugeass rabid fanbase to boot off the top of my head was Star Trek. It was generally well accepted. That's the kinda level the ME movie will have to surpass.

Given the success of AVATAR and STAR TREK last year, the higher profile a director who wants to make a sci-fi movie is, the more leeway they'll give him.  If they give ME to some journeyman grunt like David Twohy or Tim Story, it'll be the most pedestrian and unimaginative pile we could have had it in our hearts to have feared.

Oh, and yes, Olivia Wilde for Jack.  I can't stomach the thought of Natalie Portman as Jack, as she's completely wooden.  The only reason people think of her is that she was bald in V FOR VENDETTA.  It's just lazy thinking... And while I'm at it, Amy Acker for Liara.

I never thought to compare Hollywood to a viking horde before.  That was most insightful Mondo.:o^_^ *giggles*

ME doesn't have NEAR the fanbase of Star Trek.

A little off topic here:

I thought the latest Star Trek movie was ok, but nothing special.  What is the consensus here?

think Jack and Miranda will be a couple in Mass 3? Jack always mentions something about pinning Miranda down on the floor...

More like smearing the walls with her. Or tearing her apart.

[And is it me or has the forum gone funny looking?]

If not, there's always this. :P

Exactly. People are acting like the movie will somehow affect their game. And just because something different may happen in the movie than in your game, that doesn't automatically mean it's a bad movie.

Oh, and I am so stealing that viking horde analogy :D.

I thought it was rhetorical.  Yeah, Bigelow did STRANGE DAYS.  She also did NEAR DARK, the only truly great vampire movie between the 1931 DRACULA and LET THE RIGHT ONE IN.  She's accomplished as hell.

Tali would probably be the easiest to portray in a possible ME movie I would think. They could do her like Darth Vader. Have one actress walk around in the costume, and another one do the VA.

Keep her same VA that she has now for that matter.

Or a volus. That would be a great easter egg in ME3.

That they made the Star Trek timeline non-existant.

The timeline was already screwed up, but it did make it more
complicated.
