Tali would probably be the easiest to portray in a possible ME movie I would think. They could do her like Darth Vader. Have one actress walk around in the costume, and another one do the VA.

Keep her same VA that she has now for that matter.

Same goes with Wrex and Garrus (for ME1).

I thought about that, but not necessarily.  Although it technically can be done with anyone in any movie regardless of the costume.

Hey guys!

Just stopping in from the Tali thread.

How are things going with everyone's favorite biotic?

I have noticed that you seem to always have impeccable timing when dropping by to say hello in the Jack thread Jones. ^_^

I do?

Huh...

I never noticed.

What's up?

Gossip surrounding the possible future ME movie.

Ah yes, "Mass Effect: The Movie". We are well aware in Taliland.

I don't have much faith in Avi or this no-name writer.

Not looking forward to it.

A heads-up; The Ashley thread got locked for going on about the film. So let that be a warning, don't let this topic go for much longer. There already is a thread for that.

If they were really smart, they'd skip a movie altogether and make it an epic miniseries in the vein of I, Claudius, or the remake of Dune

They'd give the original writers some credit and let them at least submit an outline for the story, keep all the obvious actors (Keith David, Seth Green), the voices for those characters acted by CGI or folks in suits, and find a director who can shoot consistently with some intelligence for a long stretch that a minseries would require.

This way, we could get all three games in the format they deserve, broadcast at decent intervals, with the depth of story and character they so obviously need and require to be at the very least watchable and at best, completely epic.

This will not happen, however, as it makes too much sense, and would treat the series with far more respect than Hollywood is capable.

Hey guys!

Just stopping in from the Tali thread.

How are things going with everyone's favorite biotic?

I'm trying to see just how miserable I can make her childhood out to be. First, her abduction. Second, her first foray into the arena. Next stop, under the surgical laser. How best to gauge response to various neurological implants without having to cut into Subject Zero multiple times?

I might branch out, share the misery with other squadmates' histories. Miranda fails to impress her father with her paper analyzing the genetic structure of turian biology, but it is her instructor who pays the price for failure. Tali'Zorah saves the small frigate Emari from critical engine failure to the praise of many but the indifference of her own father. Jacob has won his school's latest game, his father had promised to be there, but instead he gets a call from colonial officials when his father ends up spending the night in a cell to sleep off a night of drunken rowdiness. Joker misses the academy entrance exams when an ill thought night out with the other kids ends up with him shattering his legs.

I'll break it up maybe with Mordin's recruitment into the STG at age 12.

I might not write about any of that.

ETA: My guess is that the Ashley thread was cut not because they were talking about the movie, but because they weren't talking about Ashley for several pages in a row.

Thanks for the warning. I originally brought up the movie topic for discussion, but intended for it to go more along the lines of who should play Jack/will Jack be in the movie/HOW do you want Jack to be portrayed in the movie. Seeing as this is the Jack thread. It seems to have veered off into the qualities of the movie itself, which I wasn't expecting, since I foolishly assumed my enthusiasm for the movie would be shared by most.

So yeah, I think it's alright if we can talk about Jack in the movie, but not the overall movie itself.

For the interest of keeping things Jack-related, I won't comment on that Tali bit.

Do we know Jack was abducted?

I remember hearing a theory that an exceptionally poor family might have sold her off.

Then again, that's just wild speculation.

I think Jack's safe.

She has a great open-ended backstory, a pretty face and a rough edge.

A great, and more importantly, marketable character.

We don't know how Jack got to the Teltin facility. She says her first memory is waking up in the cell. But she knows that other kids were sent in by crates, taken from slavers or wherever. For some reason, I wrote about how Jack might have gotten there. Then I wrote about Jack in the arena on another whim.

ETA: I wonder if the kids at Teltin were from orchestrated accidents like some of the kids at the Ascension Project.

As far as I know, we don't know anything about how Jack got into Cerberus hands. She claims to remember nothing from before Teltin; whether that is her mind protecting itself by blocking out painful childhood memories, a byproduct of Cerberus experiments messing with her memory, she's lying because she doesn't want to get into it, or if she was simply too young to remember, we don't know.

Do we know exactly how old she was when she first got to Teltin? I don't remember one way or the other. If she was really young I suppose she simply wouldn't remember anything, but any older than about 4 and I think there has to be another reason. Most likely Cerberus messing her head up with drugs, potentially purposely emilinating her memories of "home" so she is more focused on being a kick-ass biotic. Or at least that would be their plan.

So if she was taken by Cerberus at four, how old would that make her now?

I don't suppose the logs on Teltin had any dates attatched to them, did they?

I think with the right amount of creativity and sensitivity, Jack's early days could make for some great, if uncomfortable, reading. The difficult part would be how far to take the events; there's a lot of stuff in there that could be awful to go through and just as awful to write... as fertile a ground as Jack is, I know I wouldn't even want to try that part of the story for fear of not getting the tone right.

I tend to think of Jack being younger than four when she was first brought to Teltin, sometimes thinking she is as young as two. The younger the body and mind, the more malleable for experimentation, I think. I also think she managed to escape somewhere between the ages of 12 and 16, leaning closer to 12 because that age speaks more of being a kid to me, which is how Jack describes herself during her escape.

As for whether or not waking up in the cell is truly her first memory, I suspect if she wanted to, she could think of earlier memories, but why would she? Why remember a possible happy time of her life and think of the what ifs that entails?

It's definitely an open-ended area to explore as far as her character goes, but I can understand the hesitation.

Not a very pleasant topic, I imagine.

Loose end to me is more along the line of what becomes of the Rachni or the geth and not so much further detail into Jack's past, though. If we did see more of Jack's past, it's because of running into more Cerberus cells experimenting on biotics or we need to meet some criminal connection she's had to finish a mission in ME3. Or, for a good ol' trip down memory lane, come across one of the scientists who experimented on Jack working on another project for Cerberus. **** hit fan.

That goes back to the possibility that it's simply her mind protecting itself from thinking of happy times before Teltin, which ironically might actually be more painful to remember than the tortures she endured while at the facility. I think it's entirely possible, but for some reason find the possibility that Cerberus wiped her mind with drugs so they could have a "blank slate" more likely. That would explain why her first memory is simply waking up (after the drug dosage/operation/etc.) and not some specific event at the facility.
