I like Jack - the only thing is, she is supposed to be an ultrapowerful biotic yet she is, in reality one of the weaker characters. She ought to be like level four on all biotic abilities. Same with Thane - if those folks are the best at what they do they should be maxed out on some of the stats.
Personally I find her very useful for the sole reason that she can use pull often. I love pull. But I know what you mean. I guess balance always comes first though. It wouldn't be very fair if Jack completely outshined every character in realtime combat, even though according to the lore she should.
As for Jack's profession. I see her as a full time volunteer at a local animal shelter. An animal shelter where people kill eachother!

I like the idea of her being a cook. Really anything artsy, and being a chef is definitely an art.
Could easily see her as a line cook, working on a grill or some such. Probably smoking a cigarette and dropping ash into someone's sunny side up eggs, for that matter.

Jack would get bored with regular grill and fryer cooking and get creative with her biotics. Flying hamburger patties and lettuce slices and cheese and tomatoes, à la Spongebob.

Anyway, Jack in an ordinary life but with the same personality? Working on heavily modded shuttles for racing. FTL just kicked in, yo.

I read this book 'Neuromancer' the other week for the first time (apparently quite popular in science fiction, which I typically avoid), and I'd imagine it's something along those lines. That is, a bunch of low-life science and medicine happening in shady places, supplying whoever can afford it.
-edit. Speaking of this book, if anyone else has read it... I could see a renegade Jack ending up like the Molly character from the story.

So in order for human biotics to fulfill their potential, they need to be fitted with surgical implants and trained. How much does such a procedure cost? Is there a black market for such a procedure, or are we talking government medical facilities?

It's probably all very expensive. If it's not done safely, the person probably runs the risk of something catastrophic happening to their brain and nervous system.
Mass effect field-powered racing. Cars with frictionless frames, cars accelerated to speed-of-sound velocities instantly. Can Vin Diesel handle it?

I've read somewhere that in the ME universe, like on earth, now, there are technologies that exist that just aren't legal, not even on Illium. Also, there's stuff that's so expensive that only people like TIM and Matriarchs could afford it, stuff like resurrection technology.

I mean vanguard-style biotic CHARGE racing for the intergalactic equivalent of the Olympics? Assuming if Jack had that in her list of biotic talents.
There are biotics-powered sports, including stuff kids invent, stuff that gets their teen knecks snapped. That was a hilarious Cerberus News article, hilarious in a "Well, what did you think was going to happen, idiot?" kind of way.

I can imagine people using the cost of the procedure as leverage to own the life of a biotic.adriano_c wrote...

Jack fits well into a cyberpunk world. If you like Gibson, I wonder if you'd like Neal Stephenson's Snow Crash.adriano_c wrote...

Or, she surprises us all, and goes looking for a Michelin (Hahne-Kedar?) star.

From the Molly Millions wikipedia entry...
"A lean, athletic, attractive woman who at first glance appears to be wearing mirrored sunglasses..."
So the visor in the AltPack didn't just come out of nowhere, then...

The last thing anyone would expect of Jack would be turning into a social counsellor like former crime syndicate member Helena Blake.

Yeah, I could definitely see Jack living in that world he (Gibson) thought up. Very fitting. I'm not sure what to think about him, though, as a writer. I spent more time impressed by the fact that he wrote the book nearly thirty years ago and came up with all those ideas that we're still seeing influence stuff today; so basically, his vision was somewhat distracting with regards to the writing itself. Also, I thought he could have fleshed out the characters a bit more, as well.

She would probably give her a head swirl or ringer, or whatever you call it when your head gets dunked into a flushing toilet.yorkj86 wrote...

Right after Jack relieved herself of course.

Knowing Miranda, she'll probably try to get Legion to do the cleaning. Geth after all were originally made for menial tasks and hard labour.
