Very nice work... not wanting to detract from the main focus of the work at all, but I have to say I really like the background - colour & form in it is gorgeous.

It has taken me a long time, but I think I am finally starting to come around to Jack.  I had sort of the same reaction with Sten.  I hated his guts at first, and it was only on my third or fourth playthrough that I actually started to have a grudging respect for the guy and finally even to really listen to him and like him.  I guess I just had to get used to them first.  I know all Jack's lines now so she doesn't tick me off or surprise me anymore.  With my initial emotional reaction gone, I can approach her more objectively.  I've actually heard her romance is one of the better ones and have half-way thought about doing another dudeshep playthrough to get it.  Is it worth a new playthrough?

well you are on a Jake thread so maybe a little bias here but I honestly think Jack's paragon romance is the best of all LIs. So yes I say go for it and give Jack a try for a LI. You see the most change of any of the LIs and also you really start to see what makes Jack tick. I think her romance was the most emotional of the female LIs no question.

I think in-game pics of Jack are fine but the thought of seeing Jack in a wedding dress next to Shep while they stand on a rainbow or something is just wrong.

I wouldn't mind a picture of Jack beating a rainbow-coloured unicorn to death.

I guess as long as any rainbows, floating hearts, and other fruity things are being beaten down, we can allow it.

Jack is the purist spirit in ME3 next to Shep.

Anyone who doesn't grok that is not wrong, but perhaps young...

I would like to see a simple continuation, kind of what is in DAO. Seems like BW hinted towards that with being able to call your LI to your cabin. Now if they could add some dialog.

I think an approach similar to the transition from Baldur's Gate II to the Throne of Bhaal expansion would be the most satisfying for all involved.

Not sure I'd necessarily want them to go down the DAO route. On the whole, people don't seem too thrilled about they way they're handling romances romances (at least going from Origins to Awakening).

Ya not nuts about how they are handling romances with the expansion, but that is a rant for another time and place. What I simply meant was to have a bit more then the same "I'm thinking about it" line, after sexy time. Aknowledgement and progression that doesn't necessarily have to lead to marriage, in the next game. I personally don't see Jack as the marrying type.

Yes, we're all rather bias in here, we admit. But on the other hand, I've now played through almost all the romances, each time with an imported character from ME1 (with the notable exception of Thane, because I find him about as charismatic as a blueberry muffin). So, I think I get get away with saying that as far as a Male-Shep is concerned, while Tali might be sweet and (at least to my admittedly cynical eyes) Miranda might be fanservice, Jack gives you a romance with genuine emotion and a little bittersweet aftertaste. As opposed to blueberries ;)

I'd say give the snark in the sub-basement a go... you'll never know if you don't.

I'll admit, I got sucked in by that little Quarian and her cute act the first time I played through.  Honestly, I saw Jack as just another romance option I might try at some point, maybe after I do another FemShep one.

But the conversation about Murtagh just sold it for me.  I gotta give kudos to Courtenay Taylor and her line reading: as she describes Murtagh's recording, you can just hear her emotions building up, almost to the breaking point... and then she bites it back.  You can just tell it's something the character has been bottling up for so long, and describing it all over again just brings all the sadness back to the surface.

So yeah, it only took that one conversation to make Jack my favorite romance of the game.  Maybe on one of my playthroughs, I might show Tali pity again and give her one more go-around.  But Miranda... sorry, cheerleader, but you're outta luck. :)

Indeed. Try as I might, I just can't bring myself to romance Miranda. I had a playthrough all set up, but I spaced it to play DAO for the umpteenth time. Nothing against her character and all, but... But... I dunno.

She IS the cheerleader. She's lovely to look at, but I get the feeling that being looked at is the only interesting thing she does.

But bringing it back to topic, Jack is multilayered and you feel like a better person when it's all said and done. To quote the Fish License sketch: "I didn't like the others, they were all too flat."

That was such a great moment. Honestly, being totally unbiased, I think Courtney Taylor (Jack) does the best voice acting along with Martin Sheen of course. She has to be able to pull off tough badass and sad puppy and everything in between, and she does such an amazing job at it all. All of Jack's lines when she's sad just pull at my heart. I'm just blown away at how convincing all of Jack's lines are.

Or you can just be all nutjob about it like I've been and imported a Shep for each potential love interest... though I confess one did capsize on me... I'd meant him to end up with Miranda, but I started thinking no, the guy looks like Billy Idol, he needs to be with someone more appropriate... sooooooo.... ;)

So I had to import another! Bloody cheerleader...

Yeah, right now I'm just playing ME2 for fun: I think I've got only one or two more playthroughs before I put it down for a while (should have Dragon Age Awakening to play with by then). I'm waiting until ME3 gets closer on the horizon before I start getting together my import playthroughs.  And since I have the most fun with a Jack romance, that's what I do for now.

Plus... BioWare just HAD to leak out that ME2 tracks certain choices and sends the information back to them, so now I feel like I HAVE to romance Jack every time, just so the numbers look better for her.   Once ME3 is near completion, and whether or not she's back is finalized, then maybe I'll start playing around with other ladies, and maybe some fellas.

Bit of a sad story: I must have played BG2 ten times... and I always romanced Jaheira.  Never really got into Viconia, and Aerie is one of the few BioWare characters that I actively, completely HATED, so I ended up just reading their dialogues with modding tools, and played through with Jaheira every time.  When I find a love story in a game that I like, I tend to stick with it. :)

A while back someone found audio files that confirmed that they originally had tali romance-able by femshep. Has anyone found evidence of that with Jack?

You know I was taking a look at those skins of Jack's Tattoos and realized something. All of those faces she has that we think are different stages of herself. They are all the heads from the different possible styles of her they had from the art book.

I know by now someone has probably already noticed this but just thought I'd bring it up just in case.

I don't see them in the art book from the CE (maybe I'm missing a page), but now that you mention it, I did find them online, right here.

I gotta admit, as much as I don't want to cave to the whole "give Jack hair" thing... the hair she's got in #7 (in both pictures) does look pretty good on her.

Can I just have Jack as a friend? I'd love to be someone she'd show her damaged side to, a side she hasnt shown anyone before, but she is akin to a sister to me. I'd like to leave it at that. I think my Shep made it clear he wasnt interested in the horizontal monster mash with her from the start :D

A shame to say, but not really, and it is one of the downsides of her character: it seems like only the intimacy of a lover is enough to bring her out of her self-loathing shell.  I do wish there were more of a chance for FemSheps, and Shepards not looking for a relationship, to help her out, but the best you can do is win her loyalty.

Maybe there will be more of an opportunity for such things in ME3.

Does she cry in front of you telling the story of the dead gunrunner even though you already have another LI? i forget.

Because she opens up to you there.

I guess it's the way she is... I was disappointed/angry for the lack of a friendship path, but we don't want her to turn into a emo, do we? ;-)
BTW this does open many opportunities to develop her character further in ME3. *IF* Bioware will listen not only to Talimancers but also th Jack fans!

That's always been my strongest criticism of the presentation of the character... no chance for anyone else to bring her out of herself a little. Call me soft, but it's meant that in other playthroughs to try other choices/potential relationships I make Male-Sheps leave her alone... I got a mite too close on my playthrough to woo Tali, and I felt like a total heel when I blew her out, so I resort to leaving her in the basement which is a monumental shame because the character would make an interesting choice for a friend. Actually, to me that kind of relationship makes more sense, but I have a little issue with the whole all-it-takes-is-the-love-of-a-good-man thing (as Jack might say, it's ****ing patronising), but in a story like this, ah, I can let it ride. Not having the chance to help her without getting horizontal... bit of a missed opportunity.

It's not so much about just finding a good man. It's about finding this guy (Shepard) who is genuinely nice to her and doesn't just want to use her, and who truely wants to help her out of compassion and not greed. You can tell she has never met anyone like that before. And when Shepard keeps talking to her, for once she feels like someone genuinely cares about her.
