It's not so much about just finding a good man. It's about finding this guy (Shepard) who is genuinely nice to her and doesn't just want to use her, and who truely wants to help her out of compassion and not greed. You can tell she has never met anyone like that before. And when Shepard keeps talking to her, for once she feels like someone genuinely cares about her.
Perhaps to her there can't be just friends since the normal sense of comradere and friendship are completely ailen to her. She's accustomed to the stonger emotions of anger and hate. That means it's probably the stronger emotion that would be more likely to lower her shields. Those other ones might be there, but easier to not see or ignore.
