Oh, any group can start off as neutral territory with good intentions. Some even manage to keep it that way for longer than my cynicism would expect.Collider wrote...
I like the group because I can discuss the characters in neutral territory.
But it wouldn't matter, from a design perspective, I take offense to the group interface.
But not really.
But really.
Just not really like that.
I could take a stand, fight the good fight to mold these forums into something better! But right now I'm concentrating on just keeping the classes and builds portion of this forum alive. It's not gone well.

I think ME was missing the "total baddass female" archetype. For males, Shepard already occupies that spot, along with Zaeed and maybe Grunt. If Jack had been male, I would have glanced at the game case to make sure I hadn't put "Star Wars: Force Unleashed" in the drive by accident.
EDIT: Typos, mistakes.
Granted, it would be kinda hilarious if Bioware gave a nod to Starkiller by having Jack do things like a biotic storm or throw metal debris at geth. Or another nod for Infamous. Yeah yeah, bald shaven protagonists with uber powers, we know the drill.
[side note: I've been playing Prototype on the PC lately and an hour later found myself wanting to try Infamous to make comparisons.]

He did have the fact he was scared of death, that is true. Jack had the fear of being accepted? I suppose the former is understandable and natural even, whereas I suppose Jack's reason can be really hard to grasp to most people.Collider wrote...
I don't think Thane broke down though.

ETA: But anyway, if you get a man who is
standoffish at first, I'm not sure how female gamers will really take
to it. Then if you break through his barriers to find a very vulnerable
and emotional soul underneath, I can already sense the "Gaaaaaay...."
and metrosexual condemnations. I'm sure claims the guy is whining will
also make there way into the argument.
So a direct translation of
Jack into a male character would be... problematic. But the theme of
Jack's romance can be carried over to a male character. You have someone
whose led a traumatic life, doesn't trust anyone, has closed himself
off to the friendship of others. And then you have Riddick. But can you
imagine a Riddick-like character trying to tell Shepard how vulnerable
he feels deep down inside? Only if there was a very good writer at the
wheel. So not the person who wrote Jacob's romance.
always wave the "Whiner" flag when given that kind of guy. People
called Kaidan a whiner, while praising Garrus, even though Garrus whined
more! "Oh, I hate rules" "C-Sec held me back!" "I could've been a
Spectre with no rules!" .. Pfeh. I wasn't much of a fan of ME1 Garrus -
does it show?
Personally, I'd like to see someone attempt
it. Just out of curiosity. And since I've never watched anything with
riddick, I'm afraid I cannot make any connections there. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/sad.png[/smilie] ... Must
go watch something with this Riddick fellow..
As for support
threads, I will drop in if there is a
discussion that intruiges me, and to say I hate writing that handles
existing characters poorly (ala Ashley/Kaidan/Liara in ME2, but that is
arguable I guess). I don't care for some of
what goes on in them, but I just ignore that,
and realise it's both inevitable, and purely a personal irritation. [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/joyful.png[/smilie]

Depends on how you interpret it. I saw this particular forum section as being about gameplay and creative works just as fanfiction and fanart. It's a weird mix. I also think that people gravitated to the campaign forum because much of what is discussed in character threads involve spoilers.yorkj86 wrote...

Of course, I am very hard to please in the aesthetics department, so I will no doubt never be happy. /Sigh

feels too manufactured. Also, human is certainly a big plus.
Have I mentioned big and beefy? Rugby is a great sport to watch after all, with all the big guys in very tight kits... So neither are great in that area either.

On that note, however. Has Bioware ever had a tough, hulking badass for a romance? They've got characters like Canderous, Zaeed, Sten, and Wrex but they never seem to be romances.

I not talking about a Jack character re-purposed as a male. Exactly what chaos said and some of what I touched on earlier. A human LI, and preferably a bad boy hunk with a sense of humor.

Zaeed is a bad man. A very bad man. Old enough to be your dad, or your granddad. There are women who dig that for some inexplicable reason.
Take Sean Connery for example.
Samara's old enough to my Shepard's grandma, but she has the figure of a Maiden. The attraction to people older than one's self isn't so strange, in my mind (within a reasonable range, of course <_<).

Granted, the Asari aren't really applicable. Liara is supposed to be 100 years old but does not really act the part.yorkj86 wrote...

Hm. Joker? Is that grasping at straws? He has the physique to be the bad boy, just...not the bone-mass (derp). I know for certain there are female ME players who find Joker to be attractive.

Yes but apparently most females find neither physically attractive. And Garrus's romance consists of 2 or 3 conversations and then the romance scene before the suicide mission. ME2 needed a human male squadmate that wasn't as serious as Kaiden and Jacob. Someone with a sense of humor. Someone like Allistair. (I know I'm guna get crap for saying that

Yeah I've seen people call Thane a whiner and an "emo." Like suffering from a terminal disease that gives him a few months to live isn't reason enough to complain once in a while. And having your wife killed.
It's rediculous how loosely people use the word "whiner" and "emo." Like no reason is good enough to complain. "Oh your entire childhood consisted of being tortured and experimented on? Suck it up you baby!"
And I hate the word "emo." AFI is emo, no one from Mass Effect 1 or 2 is emo.

They really didn't. People saw "character" in the title of the forum and thought that it meant character threads without ever reading the description that was written for the forum. And depending on which description that was, the forum was either for creative works or for strategy discussion. But the "character" in the forum title was in reference to your own personal Shepard, not discussion of the characters in the story. Everyone who said the threads should have been moved here never actually did their homework.yorkj86 wrote...

Priestly changed the forum descriptions after the move. The funny thing is, he might have done that because I sent him a PM suggesting he do so.

Ha ha, well I don't think much will be done to alleviate this. This is why the failing of the Jacob character/Femshep fiasco left so many of the girl gamers put off in the romance department. So it seems to me anyway.yorkj86 wrote...

"Emo", "hipster" and "neckbeard" all apply to all of the people an individual does not like. They have lost all meaning, and refer to nothing in particular. They have no internal description.
No one in ME1 or ME2 is emo.
