I'm fairly certain that Jack herself intimates in the game that she's a psycho ****. The fact that she has issues is fairly self evident and even the ship's psychiatrist hints at such. Joker's comment about how the ship can only hold so much crazy is another good one. Crazy women are nothing but trouble for most men. That's why I said no thanks. Best to admire them from afar and not get involved.

Well she was tortured, drugged and forced to kill as a child and then as an adult used, abused and even gang raped.

I think she entitled to a little ****yness.

P.S: IMO "Crazy Women" are hawt, different tastes different people.

Crazy women also assure you they are on the pill or other BC or poke holes in your condoms and then get pregnant and take half your earnings for child support. Crazy women dupe you into marrying them then screw everything else that moves and divorce you and again take half your earnings and savings. Crazy women murder you in your sleep. Crazy women murder their children in their sleep.

Not that crazy men are any better. Sane women are advised to stay away from crazy ass men as well.

My point is plenty of people have suffered by being in relationships with crazy people that only a misguided moron would get involved with one thinking they could be their white knight and savior. It never ends well.

Lol are you speaking from experience here? That first example was especially... detailed. And all your examples seem to share a common theme...

Ahhh now thats a different type of crazy, thats needy/clingy crazy a very unattractive type of crazy definitely.
Jack is not that type of crazy, shes the more violent, swearing, kick your arse, don't take crap from nobody crazy.

Very different. Image IPB

The thing is that Jack isn't really crazy. Here's a handy rule of thumb. Real crazy women don't let you know they're crazy until after they got their hooks into you. The hallmark of most personality disorders is superficial charm. From fictional examples like Hannibal Lecter to real ones like Ted Bundy.

Now are superficial charms and a lack of warning signs REALLY problems coming from the foul-mouthed bald woman covered in tattoos? Yeah, she has a boatload of personal issues, but everyone does.  Not quite to the extreme degree as her, but still.

So if we go by this rationale, you're much safer with Jack than, say, Tali, who nursed a crush two years after your death. Yeah, it sounds romantic and all in a video game when it happens to Shepard, but if it happened in real life, I'd be freaked the hell out.

The thing about Mass Effect is, despite the fact that it deals with some dark themes, it is a very idealistic game.  I'm sure in real life, most hardened criminals and terrorists aren't going to respond well to, "If you just put your guns down and walk away, I'll let you go."  Trusting somebody as much as Paragon Shepard does wouldn't go as well for you in real life as it does in this game.  It's telling that the Paragon response to something only really ends in a negative consequence once (the Eclipse newbie), even though Paragon Shepard trusts pretty much everybody he runs into at their word.

Yes, most people with as messed up a life as Jack in real life would probably be in psychiatric care for the rest of her life, and would have a slim chance of ever even living a normal life, much less participate in a steady relationship.  But in the idealistic world of Mass Effect, even somebody as damaged as Jack can do some soul searching, confront her past, and use the affection of a caring individual to lift herself out of the mire.  And as unrealistic as it may be, it's sorta nice to believe that such things are possible, if only in the world of Mass Effect.

But yeah, if I met somebody as messed up as Jack in real life, I'd probably stay far away.  But then, I don't have the combat armor options that Shepard does. ;)

Which is why I love being a '"paragade" in ME.  Listening and being compassionate to squadmates or the downtrodden in the game, but when it comes to the world's underbelly or the mercs, I usually don't hesitate to intimidate.  It all really depends on the situation though.

That Eclipse recruit on samara's mission sorta got a reflex action out of me when I saw her expression change and her reaching around for her weapon, good thing I didn't let her go my first playthrough. On the other hand the eclipse merc on thane's loyalty mission, I shoved him up against the glass just enough to crack it, rather than just send him on a free fall.

Hey all, I just wanted to post these 3 vids here since this is the Jack thread (apologies to anyone who has already seen them).

First off, I took a vote and she was rated as the worst squadmate.  The purpose of that was to bring whomever was voted along to prove that there really aren't any "worst" squadmates.  I was actually glad she was picked since she's one of my favorite squadmates and it gave me a chance to show how awesome she is.  Anyway, three videos where I purposefully gimped her (only has Shockwave and Passive - Shockwave plus Pull on Jack is actually very powerful) and she still came through in spades.

ME2 - Controlling the Battlefield - Assaulting the High Ground
ME2 - Controlling the Battlefield - Flanking Basics
ME2 - Controlling the Battlefield - Advanced Positioning

Enjoy.

Nice vids, everyone usually hates on shockwave.  For me I always felt even the brief stun it did to shielded enemies and such was invaluable for me setting up a position or as an "interrupt" so to speak.

Damn I never really thought much of shockwave. I only thought it was good against against husks. I never thought about using it to stun shielded enemies, and I forgot it knocks enemies out of cover. Jack is definitely one of the best squadmates. She can use pull often which kicks ass, she can give the squad warp ammo, and she can knock enemies out of cover.

What difficulty are you playing on btw?

She's awesome even if you don't put a single point in her Passive.  Just make sure to keep her in Cover.  Warp Ammo, Pull, and Shockwave.  Makes for one mean b!tch.  No, but seriously, she can be sweet too.

Anyway, I play on Insanity.  Used to show that at the beginning of videos, but it's a pain to remember and just can't be bothered.

I spam Jack's shockwave in combat. The animation cracks me up b/c it looks like she's bowling.

Ya I figured you were playing on insanity. I just do that X+A glitch so I can max her passive along with all her skills Image IPB. I saw some thread where they ranked all the squadmates in tiers, and Jack was in the bottom tier. Clearly that person was an idiot because Jack is one of the most useful squadmates in the game.

My gaming chops are a bit shabby these days... between the thirtysomethings screwing my reflexes and needing glasses I daren't really push it above Veteran. But despite everyone's different tactics for things, I tend to use Jack and Grunt for 90% of the game, and everything fell like pins before us. Other than his loyalty mission, I don't think I've ever used Thane... must be his utter lack of charisma ;)

Ha ya I've been taking Grunt with me recently, along with Jack of course, because him and Jack have the funniest lines.

Sign you're using Jack too much #62: Suicide Mission Phase 2. Jack's holding the bubble. You get Husk-rushed and you start yelling "You do NOT touch my girl, you dead ****!" at the monitor and now your daughter is giving you funny looks... *ahem* ;)

Lmao. One time Jack was getting rushed by some enemy and I sprinted over to him, smacked him, and blasted his face off with my shotty and said out loud, "Get the **** off my woman!"

BTW, you remember before the game was
launched, there was this tiny article which explained how you could
have a fling with someone, but afterwards someone else revealed they
might have been interested but are not anymore? Was this confirmed as
Kelly=fling and Jack=secretly attracted?

Do you have a link? I've never heard anything like that.

Man, I'm glad I'm not the only one who did a little bit of roleplaying and had my Shepard run to the rescue of Jack every time she went into the red.  Yeah, they can't ever die, but Shepard doesn't know that! ^_^

I hasten to add that was with my main Femme-Shep... I tend to go all momma bear where Jack's concerned, but I can see the physical attraction to the character, sure.

Sign you're using Jack too much # 14: You've got a Jack, Grunt & Shep screenie for a desktop on your PC. Your son notes the image, gestures to Jack and comments on her somewhat left-of-centre appearance/manner of dress. You pat him on the head and tell him "If you ever bring home a girl like that, I won't mind." Now your daughter and your other half are giving you funny looks...

Haha ya and the only time I ever use unity is when Jack gets downed. Not just because she's my favorite character but also because she's extremely useful in combat.

Simply put Jack is the best character in the ME2 world: conflicted dark and crazy all in one package.  I just got to open up the romance section for her and it was a trip!  In my third playthough and will be using her all the way!  Whoo Hooo!Image IPB

Jack isn't crazy per say. She's more of a free spirit...with a massively violent mean streak. B)
