Wooow, I never want to see her smiling again. It's like the Mordin smile. Creepy, you know there's something evil going on :)

You used Jack as the fireteam leader and no one died? I thought Jack died everytime if you pick her as the fireteam leader.

I had one playthrough where only about 6 or 7 members were loyal.  Jack was unloyal.  I picked her as the first team leader and sent Jacob through the vents and he died.  Mordin was unloyal, and I sent him to escort later on and he died.  The only ones that died were Jacob and Mordin.

I don't think it's creepy or cynical, which is why it's such an interesting screenshot. Jack has what appears to be a legitament happy smile, which is unusual for her. Usually her smiles are full of cynicism.

Yeah...I liked that smile too, it shows her in one of her few truly happy moments.

I'm pretty sure it's the conversation that loops after you've finished her conversations during the romance. I'll check in a bit.

It gives the feeling of being a little childish, which I think is quite appropriate since she never had a real childhood.

Usually those with serious childhoods tend to maintain that seriousness into adulthood, but then you get those who feel since they didn't get to be a kid as a kid, they were going to take the ball and run with it like mad given the chance. Jack strikes me as the latter. Depending on your Shepard's background, I tend to think of him as the former. He'll show Jack how to act responsibly. She'll show Shepard how to vandalize the turian councilor's office properly.

That's an interesting way to look at it. I definitely agree on Jack having a certain childish quality when she's happy. That seems to fit her very well in my mind. I always imagined my main Shepard (Colonist/War Hero) as being the sort of guy to push down and suppress his past, so as not to burden himself and others with it. He's also a bit of a snarker, though that may be me shining through.Image IPB

Jack would go nuts at an amusement park.  She might hide it at first, feigning disinterest, but take your eyes off of her and you'll spot her, minutes later, on the largest, tallest, fastest rollercoaster ride in the place.

Jack & Shepard at the Fair:

Jack:  Let's ride the roller coaster!
Shepard:  I don't like roller coasters.
Jack:  You sound like a Pu**y!
*Shepard buys the tickets, and they ride the roller coaster*

[later on]

*Jack enters a water gun shooting contest and comes in 2nd place*

Jack:  So what prize do I  get?
Fair Carny:  Sorry little lady, you don't get anything for 2nd place.
Jack:  That boy that came in first place cheated!
Fair Carny:  Sorry lady.
*Jack snarls*
Jack:  Give me that stuffed teddy bear NOW, or I shove this water pistol up your ass!
*Fair Carny gives Jack the stuffed teddy bear*
Fair Carny:  Here you go lady.

*Shepard walks up on to the scene*
Shepard:  Ah, you won a teddy bear huh?
*Jack smiles proudly*
Jack:  Yep, I finished first place in a water gun shooten contest.

So what would you guys think if Jack's VA was changed for ME3? Do you think you'd be able to accept a new VA for Jack? Do you think anyone could do as good of a job as Courtney Taylor? And if someone did replace Courtney Taylor as Jack's VA, who would you want it to be?

If I knew Jack's VA was changed before ME3 was released, it would kill a huge amount of my excitement for ME3. I would still have Jack as my LI when I carry my saved game over, but I would cringe when she talks. I would shout at my TV saying, "You are not Courtney Taylor! Bring back Courtney Taylor!" I would try my hardest to accept it, but the new VA would have some big shoes to fill since Courtney Taylor did such am amazing job voicing Jack. But if someone were to replace Courtney Taylor, I'm not sure who I would hope for since I can't imagine someone else voicing Jack. I guess Natalie Portman because I know she's a good actress and her voice is the closest to Jack's (besides Courtney Taylor of course) that I can think of.

Why?  Do you know something that we don't?

I think Courtenay Taylor knew what she was doing when recording Jack's lines.   Courtenay's voice is light, but slightly gravely (I  think that's the word I'm looking for).  It makes Jack seem tough, but, simultaneously, its lightness is a stark contrast to her appearance.  From a meta-perspective, it fits in really well with the Jack we come to know later in the game.  Courtenay really did a good job of making us believe that this is a character who thinks she has everything worked out, but she is uncertain, and she might lack sincere self-confidence.  Jack is tough, but she's not completely desensitized, despite what she'd like us to believe.

Natalie Portman might be able to voice Jack, but I'd prefer Courtenay.

It'd be a bit annoying. Kinda like the VA switch with Shiala. The inconsistency grated on my ears.

On the other side of the coin, I dunno how the Miri fans will react if Yvonne Strahovski weren't around for ME3.

They'd probably start a riot.

Or even worse, changing Tali's voice actress.......
Could possibly bring about the apocalypse for bioware.Image IPB

Well I was wondering what would happen if a VA for a major character died or was just unable to voice act for the same character in a sequel. And then I wondered what would happen if Courtney Taylor somehow ended up not being the VA for Jack in ME3, and how much it would suck.

Shiala's VA switched in ME2? Wow, I didn't know that. They so sound similar I couldn't even tell. I did recognize a slight different between the two voices, but I still thought it was the same VA.

And yeah the thing with Yvonne Strahovski also made me think of this question. We all know she's busy with Chuck, and I'm sure if she had to pick between Chuck and ME3, she'd definitely go with Chuck. But for ME3 she just has to come in a few times and say a bunch of lines. I'm sure it'll work out.

If Tali's VA were to change, oh man. The screams of talimancers would be heard around the world.

There was no changeover in Shiala's VO. Gwendoline Yeo just did it extraordinarily different the second time around.

As for Miranda? If Miranda's coming back, Strahovski's coming back. If Strahovski's not coming back, Miranda won't be. Remember that it's not just her voice, but her face in the game. I don't think Miss Strahovski (or her lawyers) would sit still for BioWare making another person's voice come out of her mouth.

But would I suffer someone else voicing Jack? Short answer: "No." Long answer: "Hell no." Taylor combines petulance with a light rasp at the back of the throat. It makes Jack seem so damned young and so damned old at the same time. No one else could do that. Luckily she makes a living doing this stuff and would have no problems coming back to the booth.
