I'm not making claims about electronica.  (At least, I don't think I am).  I was trying to talk about a certain kind of musical taste.  I do realize that I should probably stick to talking about music I listen to, so I rescind whatever I said.

Okay.  What about the rest of what I said?  Do you think that the feel of the world the characters live in is somehow stifled by the lack of diversity of cultural things, like music?

We didn't even get to hear the Quarian mother's keening song in ME1, we just get told by text that we hear it.   It would be awesome if we could hear what each species' music sounds like.

Out of curiosity, when and where was we told about Quarian mother's keening music in ME1?

Even if they did create a distinct music for different species, it's not like it would sound like anything virgin to us I would think.  Unless they come up with some really off the wall stuff.

I think on one level yes, but on another level, that it's really hard to create musical and artistic movements out of whole cloth, especially when they're represented visually and heard.  I think print media avoid some of that difficulty, but film, or a video game, which tries to be like film in a lot of ways, just has problems.  If Bioware were to try, it might come off as a half-measure, or worse, too similar to already existing human culture.  On the off chance it did work, the world would feel VERY lived-in and whole.

EDIT:  So I guess I agree with you that the electronic music is a fair substitute.

I have to admit, any time I've heard someone attempt to make futuristic "popular" music in a sci-fi show, I ended up cringing at how bad it sounded. I've never really minded futuristic ambient music in a show or movies musical score, though.

I've wondered what makes Expel 10 a sensory band, however. Not just the pulsating nature of bass, but like if it actually makes your body react from the inside.

I've just had the thought that Jack's earpiece is like her own personal iPod, providing her with the appropriate soundtrack to accompany the type of carnage she happens to be inflicting at any given moment. Krogan battles need something akin to tribal drums. Eclipse battles need electronica.

I remember some of the alien culture music from various Star Trek (TNG, Voyager, etc.) episodes, I always thought it was rather flat and drab myself.

Legion must have one as well... that is why he starts dancing after the suicide mission.

If she was romanced by Shepard, Jack listens to "Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows" by Lesley Gore, on infinite repeat, in combat.

( As an added bonus, the song accompanies Serious Sam HD gameplay footage.)

Now why does that make me think of Shaun of the Dead?

I could imagine Jack listening to Holy Diver while decimating Blue Suns.

I was a big fan of that fanfic a while ago. The first five chapters were great, but I started to lose interest after Thane and Jack developed a romantic relationship. I wish they would have stayed as friends. And after reading Urdaniel's fanfic, it's even harder to picture a
Jack/Thane romance. But the new chapter wasn't bad. The scene with Samara seemed to drag out.

Where's Urdaniel been? I'm looking forward to Day 5 of his fanfic, I hope he hasn't given up on it. :?

No he hasn't. He's just a busy person. And instead of posting here he probably works on his fanfic. Which there's nothing wrong with that. Especially because his fanfic is so awesome :).

Yeah, Uraniel's fic is probably the best Jack/Shep fanfiction out there. It seems like the only one that handles the relationship in a mature, realistic manner and does the pairing justice.

There was Blame, which was interesting enough that I could overlook the grammatical and formatting errors, but the author seems to have abandoned the story, so it's a bit of a dead end now. :? It's okay though, because IMHO, Urdaniel's story is much better. :D

Yeah that was pretty good. Too bad he stopped. It reminded me of Mondo's fanfic "Walking After You", which was great.

But I agree, Urdaniel's is easily the best out there. I've only read three (Urdaniel's, Rock Steady, and now the bit of Blame that there is), but Urdaniel's fanfic, "Things Worth Keeping", knocks them out of the park.

Woops.  I missed your post.  You get the text about the Quarian keening song during the Geth Incursions mission in ME1.

Well jeez, no pressure then, huh?   Thanks for all the praise, but unfortunately I'm not finished with Day 5 yet; I'd say I'm around  1/3rd to 1/2 done.  RL keeps on getting in the way to the point where I can't even keep up with the thread anymore.  That and the chapter is getting longer the more I work on it.  This one and Day 6 are going to be a bit of a change-up from what went on before, and hopefully they don't fall flat on their collective keisters.

Back to the grindstone for me.  Just thought I'd pop out of my hidey-hole for a bit of an update and prove I'm still around.

I might write something again soon... though not today. I'm stuck in rewind today; everything I eat, bingo, someone puts me in reverse and I get to see it again.

But yeah, Dan, get on with it - I was enjoying all the sexual tension!

Ha sorry, didn't mean to put any pressure on you. But don't worry about rushing anything. We understand your busy. RL comes first.

I'm excited about whatever this change will be in chapters 5 and 6. I'm looking forward to it. :)

I hate to love it. The composition is great, but it really fuels my inferiority complex.
Between that, axl99 and Epantiras, one cannot help but feel like David facing Goliath. Only you're armed with nothing but an inflated, if paper-thin sense of self-importance and a digital tablet.

Different doesn't necessarily mean inferior.  If it did, we wouldn't have artists praising both Piccaso and da Vinci.

I like the style of your art.

Wow. That fanart is great, even the second time around. I like how well the artist nailed the look of Jack's tattoos for the ones on her legs.

At the risk of being a silly nitpicker of a great picture, she has some serious finger-toes.

Yeah if she has tattoos on her legs (which I'm sure she does), I think they would look like the ones in that picture. It perfectly mixes in with the rest of her tattoos. Mainly because the design is like the "medical" tattoos on her arms.

Incidentally, I took a look at the tattoo-less Jack, and let me just say, the spinal scars are chilling.

Those tattoo-less pics, don't do Jack justice.
