I hope she knows how much Jackolytes appreciate her work. A Liarafan got in to contact with Ali Hillis, Liara's VA, and she was appreciative of the recognition.

That makes me think we should all compile a list of questions for her with one of us getting into contact. :P Y'know, like how long did it take to record all her lines? How was she chosen as Jack's VA? What did she first think of her character? Stuff like that. It'd be interesting to know.

We could use twitter, but I dunno how often she's on. And there's a 140 character limit. Then there's the official email thing on her site :D

Hmmm that's not a bad idea. We should form a list of questions for her, some basic ones. We probably shouldn't have too many though. I don't want her to feel like she's filling out a resume.

Email would probably work best.

Her KOTOR interview had about 12 questions. So how about it?

So, let's take a day or two to compile some simple questions from a variety of people who post regularly in this thread, and then see if she responds.

^ Right on. We can ask:

"When/Why did you decide you wanted to be part of the Mass Effect family?"

- What was it like being Jack?

- Anything you like about her character?

- Did you get to do mocap work for the Subject Zero CGI trailer?

- Was Jack the only person you got to voice in Mass Effect 2? Claudia Black for instance voiced an asari bartender and a quarian admiral while Mark Meer did Commander Shepard and a ramen chef.

- Did you get to play ME2 or see it being played?

- [assuming she got to play the game] got any favourite characters? Other than Jack of course.

- Was the whole voiceover process similar to what you did with KOTOR?

- Did you meet anyone else from the cast?

Wow, I didn't think anyone would take my idea seriously as I was being tongue in cheek about it. But I support it anyhow. :D

I've already put out my ideas. I like the ones we've got so far.

I figure that it's at least worth it to try to contact her with these questions.

Things I'd like to know...
What description was Courtney Taylor given about Jack's character?
How was the voice direction described to her for her lines?
Was she able to find Jack's voice quickly or did she have to experiment with a few different types of dialects and enunciations before it sounded right?
Did she know what Jack looked like already while reading her lines?
How early in the development process do voice actors tend to record their sessions?
Did her approach to the character lead to the development team actually altering certain scenes to incorporate Courtney Taylor's interpretation?
Could she identify with the character, could she get a good grasp of Jack's story based on her line readings?
Did she get to see how other characters were being portrayed or written -- for instance, was she given direction or able to hear how other voice actors were reading their lines in a scene involving Jack?
Has she seen a lot of footage of Jack with her voice attached? If so, does she think some of her own mannerisms made it into Jack's features?
Has she been able to play or see the final game?
Does she ever think about how the characters she voice develop after she's done recording the voices?
Did she record other characters in the game?

All good questions, but I really want to know the answer to that one.

- what's your reaction to seeing all these twitter-ers masquerading as mass effect characters?

- - someone's making mass effect costumes for comicon, pretty awesome eh?

Wonder who's going to Comic-Con dressed as Jack...

Thing I always wonder about is that while these voice actors have provided their talent to the characters we love, it's really simply their job. They're not necessarily gamers and they don't go on forums talking about how much they love this character they've just voiced. Suddenly, they have fans wanting to know every little detail about something that might not have necessarily had a big impact on their lives.

Or maybe I'm just picturing Sir Alec Guinness cringing in frustration as another fan asks him to say "may the force be with you" again.

No wait, maybe I'm just picturing Alan Rickman from Galaxy Quest.

The KOTOR questions seem pretty generic for the most part, but Courtenay had such lengthy answers for good bunch of them. Who knows, she seemed to be a good sport about it so she might dig a few insightful questions here and there. It's not like we're asking her to recite a certain line from a certain scene in a certain tonality of course.

But yeah, who knows how long ago her recording sessions for Jack were? [ooh, another interview question right there!] She seemed pretty enthused about Jack enough to mention it on twitter, but didn't say a thing about her role in God of War or Alpha Protocol.

I like these questions.

Another one I'd like to add is, "What was you're first reaction to finding out you're voicing a violent and powerful chick that's covered in tattoos and has a shaved head?"

Oh noes, the visor covers her eyes :-( that's one of my favourite expressions of her in the game, it's like talking a look at the scared girl she keeps hidden under her walls. Ugh, badly written but I hope it makes sense :-)

Ok, I'll add my two-penneth between bouts of feeling like crap for the "Ask Courtenay Q & A" the poor lassie is about to get thrown at her :D

Considering how easy it was for me to find empathy for our favorite snarky little b*tch (seriously, it was like slipping on old familiar shoes for me), I'd want to ask Courtenay how much of Jack is in her, and how much of her is in Jack? Ok, I'm not wanting to get into intimate or personal details, but I think a lot of performers bring something of themselves to roles, but when you're dealing with a character so outside the box as a tough-as-nails telekinetic killing machine with a heart, in my book you have to find some of the character inside yourself. I mean, I could identify with Jack for needing love (no-one else in the game does in my book, so I have to draw a line under that ;) ), for having a temper, for being a cynic, for maybe being taken for one thing when they're another altogether, and for not trusting easily. The writing might be the guide, but without the performance, none of those things can come out, so... is there a little part-time dangerous b*tch\\scared little girl in ya, Courtenay? ^_^
