Did you watch that video by Smudboy?  You probably visited the thread he started about it.   If so, what do you think?  I know he nitpicked it to death, but do you agree with any of it?

Well if you read the thread my primary argument with him was in regards to how the loyalty missions were handled. I'm not too high on ME's overall plot itself so I only watched the first couple of installments, as he was getting them up. I remember a couple threads where he went in depth about how Shepard was not tied to the plot and that seems quite strange to me.

Sorry... that video was making me fall a sleep.  All I was hearing was "You don't do this" over and over again.  What was his justification... because it's not good story telling.  Says him... he makes it sound like he is the authority on how a story should be told.  Sure the story was about the other characters... but it was about Shepard as well.  So no... didn't agree with the guy.

Quote for truth. I love ME but this is not as enthralling as playing it first hand.

The videos could have been shortened, but you didn't watch them right?  You said it was making you fall asleep.  So how much did you watch,  2 minutes?

Hmm, this really is a good piece of satire NICKjnp. I think what stands out to me the most is that even though Jack is ultimately out for revenge, hers is not personified per se a Garrus (sidonis) and zaeed (blue sun's name I forget). The other two characters have a clearly defined goal and target, justified by their personal morality and principles. Bot for Jack, when you are introduced to her "Revenge" its really not outlined with a clear target nor is it given a clear distinction of being self-fulfilling in a way. Jack would like to believe that blowing up this Cerberus facility would symbolically achieve some form of satisfaction, but inside, though she won't tell you, she desperately wanted get a chance to explore the memories embedded deep within its walls. Its not a simple revenge, though its not exponentially more complex than Garrus or Zaeeds, its got an extra layer of character exploration. Just one of the many layers of our wonderful Jack :)

I never understood the "Protagonist" is not tied to the plot argument. I can't really wrap my mind around it.

Hear Hear.  ME2 is a character study, but even though, Shepard ties directly to it.

Without Shepard: Jack's still on ice, Tali's exiled, Garrus is pretty much dead as he couldn't have held off those mercs by himself, Zaeed's no closer to Vido, Kasumi's no closer to Keiji's greybox, Mr. Lawson gets Oriana, Morinth is still out there killing, Thane dies trying to get out of Dantius Tower, Ronald Taylor is still running his harem, Legion is still part of the Geth collective, Grunt's still in his tank, Maelon is still conducting brutal experiments and Joker's collecting unemployment.

While I agree that ME2 was a lot less elegant in the plot department, it more than makes up for it in terms of emotional impact.  It wants us to feel something instead of marching us in a kind of mercenary death-march towards the end of a three act story.  I'd much rather enjoy the ride while reading a book than rocket towards the last page, and the same principle stands here.

I recall the soldier on the Citadel talking about Isaac "D.S.O.B.I.S" Newton's First Law of Motion, and the more I think about it, the more that Law becomes the theme of the whole damned game.  Because wouldn't all these people have continued on their individual trajectories had not Shepard acted as an outside force?

I think Jack is really ugly. Therefore I ignore her.  Women are useless unless you can ****** to them, after all.

Translated that for you.

zvbxrpl, we don't respond to Busomjack.  That's a rule of these forums.  The best way to kill a troll isn't fire, acid, magic, or a silver weapon, but simply to starve it of attention.

Thanks for the tip.  I didn't know he was a known troll.

I really enjoyed ME2's emphasis on characters. It was refreshing, especially so when you have unique characters such as say Jack. It's a sort of "Canterbury Tales," if you will, where each character has an interesting background and story. I would have appreciated Harbinger either shutting his face or actually being a decent villain, but I thought ME2's narrative was great for the most part. I don't think it'll work for ME3 though, at all.

What about the squadmembers' loyalty?

For example:
If Jack is loyal, she survives from the debris falling on her after the Final Boss fight.  If she is unloyal, she is killed by the same debris that falls on her after the Final Boss fight.

If you like a character enough and are willing to do their loyalty mission then there is input by the player that they like that character. Its more of a gameplay mechanic than anything.

Basically the logic behind them is that they would be more focused, stronger and more in tune with the mission.  The Debris thing is there to basically finish off in a way those who couldn't get through it if you think about it that way.

The pillar thing seems to be a poor idea. Something like where an unloyal squad mate is lagging behind and gets killed that way would have been better.

His video series was a mess. They were way too long, he repeated himself multiple times, his videos were each categorized for a different arguement but they all frequnetly strayed into a different tangent irrelevant to what the purpose was, and he was generally very nitpicky about it.

He did have some sound arguements, but a sound arguement is not always a valid one. I see that it would have been much more effective if he simply wrote about his arguement in a more concise manner, rather than make extended videos.

I have said in the past that the cuddling scenes in ME2 are cheesy 13yr old stuff.

After doing Jack's scene the second time, I think it is more fitting for her, but not necessarily for the other LI's though.  Certainly not for Kelly.  Jack is very emotional and vulnerable, she comes to Shepard's quarters and extends her hand out to him.   She begins to open up some, and she breaks down a little.

In her case, I suppose a cuddling scene is more appropriate than the screen going dark right when they go to the bed.  It's good that sex is not implied at all between the two of them in that scene I think.  Not that I thought sex should be implied, but in this case considering the circumstances with Jack's emotional state, cuddling does seem appropriate and adds to the scene, and is not cheesy.  Jack needed some cuddling.

Okay, this is going to sound bad - and for the record, I like the shaved head and the huge amount of ink - but:
Isolated like that and without the scowl, it's clear that Jack in fact has a really pretty face. There's just usually so much 'going on' around it and with it that's it sometimes hard to tell. But....wow. Just wow.
's all.

After five minutes of the technically-lousy lounge jazz in the background and the oozing sarcasm in his voice I just pegged him for yet another internet pseudo-intellectual that beats himself into a frenzy over the sound of his own voice. If I wanted to listen to some guy masturbate... well, I have much better movie options that what passes for his almighty opinion. At least the fellas in those would be wearing ballgags... :kissing:
