Portman can definitely act. If she were chosen to play Jack in a ME movie then I would feel comfortable with that.

But I must admit that I know nothing of Wilde's acting ability. Based on physical appearance alone I'd choose Wilde over Portman because I think Wilde's face is more similar to Jack's. Of course if she were a terrible actor I would not want her to play the role of Jack. Looks are not everything.

Wilde can act. She's good on House and did well in Alpha Dog.

I have to say, other than her height and the fact that she shaved her head once, there's nothing to recommend Natalie Portman for the role of Jack. Nothing. She's astonishingly wooden and any attempts at real emotion would come off as an ironic put-on or bear the hallmarks of someone who was "acting." She peaked when she was twelve.

She isn't even on my shortlist. And if she hadn't shaved her head for V For Vendetta, she wouldn't be on anyone else's either.

Am I still alone in thinking that Rebecca Romijin would make a decent Jack?
I keep coming back to Femme Fatale, and what she did in that film.
Perhaps I am alone, but I can definitely see it. Even though she might not be the most accurate in terms of sheer physical resemblance.

I don't think she's a bad actor. But I never think to critical of someone's acting. And regardless of her shaving her head for V For Vendetta, her eyes are similar to Jack's and her size is similar to Jack's, which is why I think she'd be a good option for the role of Jack at least appearance wise.

It's a long shot, but doesn't anyone remember on what page we discussed what Jack's reaction would be to Shepard dying?

Do you think she is young enough?  Or would Jack need to look in her early to mid 20's in a movie?  You think she is a real good actress?

...and here I was thinking this thread would have died without my marginal contribution. Back to dying of humidity in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Oh, and I'm still disgusted by the thought of Olivia Wilde as Jack.

I suppose the characterisation would have to be altered if Jack's age was to be. But cinematic make-up can do wonders...and I do think of Romijn as a perfectly capable actress with the right director.
But it's just a half-hearted suggestion.

Hey, don't dissolve in the heat, guy!

Ok, truth be told, while I thought the Wilde is pretty good in House, I don't think I've seen enough of her to truly judge. And while the Portman can cuss exceptionally well, I'm not truly sure she's the woman for the job either. I'm not entirely sure that I've really seen this mythic person we'd all want to play Jack; we've all got too much baggage of our own to really come to the table and agree. So, can I toss my cards in and say fold? I don't think we've picked a real winner yet... maybe there's someone out there we've never heard of that'll suddenly appear and bingo - we'll have a Jack we can all embrace?

And to be fair to the gal, the only thing that disgusts me about Olivia Wilde is the fact her legs aren't wrapped around my neck right now... ;)

no, you aren't alone on that :) I think however if she was a little bit younger she could pull it off. I dunno if its the lack of a real life model for Jack ala Miranda, but I cannot think of a person that could play Jack reasonably.

Oh Ellen Page won't you age faster! I think she might be up to it ;)

Wonder if it's the monsoon season.

I bet after Pragia, Jack has a particular disgust with rainy jungle areas.

I know I would have about a gallon of insect repellent with me at all times, if it was me in those woods.:o

@Jackal
You remember when you asked me about my statement about using Jack as the first team leader and that she didn't die?  Well I found out that the first team leader never dies, regardless of who it is.  If you don't use a loyal Garrus, Miranda, or Jacob as the 1st leader, whoever goes through the vents dies regardless of who goes through the vents, and whether or not they are loyal.  I believe I got that right.  Pacifien can correct me if I am wrong.

Hey, you're back.   Hi.

Well, this is the first morning I have to "relax", in addition to a non-rape-like price for internet access (relative to what I know it should cost), thought I'd use the downtime to peruse some familiar stuff, lol...

Angkor Wat, up next...followed by another five weeks exploring southeast Asia. Some Pragia-like jungles out here, for real.

Yeah...I should have waited 'til Autumn. I'm being eaten alive by mosquitoes...and some other unidentified bugs. 31 bites (which I scratched to hell...causing splotchy, bloody bruising) on my right calf/foot alone!

Probably lost 2-3 kg from sweating alone. So...soon enough.

Not much rain at all, thus far. Heaviest was actually in Beijing...for about 2 hours...while I was walking along the Great Wall. That + the mist made for some crazy pictures...although wearing sandals on worn, wet stone almost caused me to fall off one of the watchtowers.

Hello all. I have returned!

I'm not "in the loop", and will require many pages of lurk-reading, but at the moment showing support for the 2nd most badass being in the 'verse! (Shepard arguably first)

I read talk of who could possibly play Jack in the Mass Effect movie. Many of the females mentioned could possibly do a good job, but more than likely they would fail. I don't particularly like Natalie Portman's acting, but she may just be crazy enough to put up a relatively decent performance. It's not ideal, though, since Courtenay Taylor must MUST voice Jack. There are two ways to do this.

It's probably been brought up, but for the movie I prefer:

Image IPB

CGI Jack voiced by Courtenay Taylor. Everyone's CGI. All VA return. I'd be so happy.

And CGI Jack is hot B)

Hmm, your words don't seem meaningless, but if you feel that way, you could always do more artwork to make up for it :D

The great thing about Mass Effect and Jack is everything we don't know, allowing us to come up with our own realistic and varrying speculation. I like what you described, though it's been quite awhile since I played ME2  so I lack as good of a point of view.

Do you guys often write these backstory history theories? They're my favorite kind of speculation! Will likely lurk more to gain that perspective.

You know, a CGI movie would actually be all right. Though I'd prefer they make Jack look more like her in-game version. The FFTL trailer version strikes me as...off for some reason.

She lacks her widow's peak in the FFTL trailer, and her cranial and facial structure are different than how they appear in-game.

Nah, it's fine axl. Though this thread doesn't move particularily fast, there is plenty of quality in each post, meaning alot can get lost or unagknowledged with all the heavy discussion we Jackolytes get into.

I found your take on Murdock Murtock pretty plausible, it sort of clicks with me. I'm not as articulate with my words like Mondo, or Jackal, or Royce, or York, or all the others I failed to mention that make the English language flow from their keyboards? tongues like sweet honey... so I'm not really sure how to expand on that (and it's currently midnight where I live so I'm utterly brain dead, that might have to do with it).

Also, who was the one who made a blog fic of Jack first meeting Murtock? It's back a page or two I think, can't find with my brain impaired the way it is. I liked it though, never expected Murtock to be a Scot. :D

EDIT: I still can't find it, it might have been from another thread... man I must be really tired.

@pyro Yes! I can live with CGI. I'm desperatley denying the existence of the ME movie until I have to face it in theaters, I don't want one, but I can live with CGI.
