Or same species romances.
Ok. That was stretching it.
Nah. Tali and Grunt would be stretching it
But yes, Jack really does not seem the type to perch on Shep's lap and stare into his eyes meaningfully. Not unless they're naked and... you get the idea. Oh, but to have Jack come up to the cabin, put her feet on the coffee table and have an intimate conversation... to see them sat beside one another talking, sharing a drink, whatever. It would be the stuff of dreams.

Makes me wonder, though, exactly what Shepard would say to call Jack up to his quarters. Would she give him lip over the intercom? Would Shepard have to provide incentives? Of course, I'm just being silly.

Oh god, your first sentence reminds me of that horribly laughable soundclip BobbytheI posted oh so long ago.
Jack perching on Shep's lap on the couch? Straddling him maybe. Or playing strip poker.

He probably just snaps his fingers over the intercom

It can't be that simple. The whole call-to-cabin thing is a little silly, and being able to request the person's presence like that is almost as out-of-character for some characters as sitting on Shepard's lap.
Jack's hardly the type of person to come (no innuendo ["In-your-endo"]) on command.
In any case, I was just being silly, and fishing for someone to write something about the awkwardness of Shepard just calling Jack up to his cabin.

Don't worry, Thane was even more disconnected from the plot than Jack and damn, they'd better bring him back in ME3 or I'll riot ;-)
Actually, I thought Thane was better in this regard.
Despite the fact he might die, we're given a much clearer reason for why he is here on the mission. Jack, not so much. Even if we can sit around and think of a reason, the reason isn't actually addressed in-game.
In addition, you are able to pursue a friendship path with Thane if you don't romance him, and not so with Jack. A Shepard who did not romance Jack has cause to wonder why she would stick around.

The problem with the cuddling post-suicide mission would only increase had there been same sex romances. Who sits on who's lap?
I guess the whole "who sists on who's lap" question is the real thing that prevented Bioware from adding same sex romances :-P
(that was a joke)

Sorry, I never really saw that myself. I mean, on a mission like this, how much use is a hitman? Jack's a warhead; aim her, boom, things get dead in large quantities. If we wanted to knock off the bad guy's bossmen from a mile away, sure, get the assassin, but in what is bound to boil down to close-quarters combat against a foe with a completely flexible command structure...
Sure, Thane says he'll come because he wants to atone, but I did wonder at the use of him much more than Jack. But hey, that's probably just me.

Thane is in the game because they needed a damn hot alien dude for female players :3 Bioware devs admitted that he was developed from the start to be a LI, they even asked their female co-workers for feedback (I believe there must have been misunderstandings in the process)
