But what does it say that Garrus, who is decidedly less-human in appearance, has a much larger female fanbase than Thane? Thane was decided to appeal to female players, and the developers have stated that they were astonished by how much people like Garrus.

Garrus was in ME1 and a notable amount of Garrus fans already liked the character then. So the fanbase had already existed.

Are you sure about "much larger"? The Thane thread isn't brimming with posts, but that's because Thane fans have their own group where they congregate in. The group itself is very active.

A picture exists of a woman attempting to feed cake to the image of Garrus on her computer's desktop.  Q.E.D.

It only proves that some players are over-obsessed with fiction characters

I accept defeat.

At any rate, what I listed is the probable reasoning behind why Garrus is more popular. Garrus had already existed.

The Hanar are the galaxy's biggest fanboys for Shepard, and they needed someone on the inside to get pictures of him, so they can draw hearts on them and put them up on their walls?

Since we were talking about Jack and friendship earlier, I had just reached the conclusion of the conversation tree in my current playthrough. She does admit to liking Shepard in the end, so I do see the potential of future friendship. Not in the traditional "let's go to the movies" sense, more like they could hold a reasonably carefree conversation without the bull**** of Jack's past getting in the way.

It's annoying whenever you do reach the end of the conversation tree, though. This could happen very early in the game if you're prone to talking to squadmates after every single mission. The only squadmate who seems to have enough conversations to satisfy me is Mordin, and part of that has to do with the variety of ways he tells you to leave him alone.

I think a mixture of your regular conversation with what you get with Kasumi and Zaeed would work out nicely. Whenever the conversation requires a back and forth exchange with Shepard, you get the dialogue wheel. In between such conversations, whenever you click on the squadmate, you just get a random comment. Like clicking on Jack gets a comment about how she can hear Grunt's stomping whenever he paces a room. "Look, Shepard, I'm not getting sleep down here with your krogan trying to break the floor with his pacing. Take him to go kill something already."

Come to think of it, that's a good way to get squadmates to give you a good impression of how they get along with others. "Tossed a large spoonful of custard at the cheerleader's face today. Smeared all her mascara trying to wipe it off."

That sounds more like a page from diary. Does Jack have diary?

Dear Diary, smeared the walls with the cheerleader today. Still the biggest biotic b*tch of the galaxy.

Dear Diary, threw the krogan's tank clear across the hangar bay. Still the biggest biotic b*tch of the galaxy.

Dear Diary, tore through 3 YMIR mechs today. Still the biggest biotic b*tch of the galaxy.

Dear Diary, the Justicar managed to flay someone with her mind. Unsure if biggest biotic b*tch of the galaxy.

I have to figure out a way to include the inspiration to the song.

What does this mean?
