They both make themselves extremely vulnerable in order to get closer to Shepard.  Tali could actually die, and Jack probably felt as if she could die, walking in to Shepard's quarters.

On a less-serious note, they're both tsundere for Shepard-chan.

Shouldn't that be dere-dere for Shepard-chan? ;)

I don't know, is that correct?

Well isn't "tsundere" essentially a contraction of tsun-tsun (meaning to give the cold shoulder) and dere-dere (meaning to be affectionate). If someone is tsundere, they blow hot and cold; usually cold to begin with, warming up to becoming a fairly typical love interest. I once referred to Jack and Miri as Richter-Nine Tsunderes, because it's just another thing they have in common - lovestyle.

If I remember rightly the word evolved from the term 'yandere' (essentially "sick-love") where a character becoming dere-dere for someone usually displays it by beating the crap out of them (oh, isn't domestic abuse funny in Japan - but then again they find incest a barrel of laughs there too, so there you go...).

Um... I know nothing about Japanese pop culture and will deny it so fast it'll break necks :D

I use "tsun-tsun" as a cutesification of "tsundere". Apparently, I shouldn't, since "tsun-tsun" and "dere-dere" are two different things. I knew that "tsundere" and "yandere" are two different things.

Do you think Jack's only dere-dere for Shepard-chan?  (uguu~~)  She seems like a true tsundere.

I wish I didn't have to use these words, but apart from all of the weird **** Japan puts out, they've given us these convenient words that have no exact English equlvalent.

It's good that I have a history with anime fandom, or else I'd be lost as hell with your guys' conversation. TV Tropes has good explanations for tsundere, yandere, etc. But I'm afraid to link them as it will open up a vast black hole that will suck hours of time away. It's like rickrolling, but you're stuck all day.

EDIT: Bah, screw it. Just look at Anime Fanspeak.  My brother was stationed on Okinawa for two years. He's told me... interesting things. Japan is a strange place. [smilie]../../../../images/forum/emoticons/blushing.png[/smilie]

As for Jack, she's a Type A Tsundere. 'Tsun-tsun' is her default mode, it takes something special to show her dere-dere side.

Gah, I feel dirty now. Excuse me while I go wash the otaku off. :pinched:

Anime speak?

*hides under a rock*

BTW I remember an article talking about Bioware character "archetypes", one of them is the "icequeen" (they used a different word but the meaning is the same) and named a few examples such as Jaheira, Silk Fox (whom I always call Silk Ox), Bastila and Morrigan. I can safely assume that Miranda belongs to that category too. Jack belongs to none of those listed in the article though ;-)

Yes, Miri is a ice queen, she is even called one from one of her workers, tho it's alot more colourfull.

I was just doing a new desktop hunt and spotted this screenie of mine, and after thinking how nice that sheen on Jack's lips is, I though "Tin-man, Scarecrow, Lion" :D

He definitely helps those people and saves the whole world :P

And Harbinger is obviously the wicked witch. Dripping with arrogance, ready to be punched right in the face.

"I'LL GET YOU MY PRETTY, AND YOUR LITTLE VARREN, TOO!"

EDIT read that in Harbinger's voice...it was strangely full of win.

Me neither, but it doesn't mean I haven't been exposed to the terminology in browsing the internets.

I'd say TIM, even though he brought you back to life which is no joke. He's still under an illusion just like the wizard lol

I was just watching the first 20min of the movie "Dune". I haven't seen it in ages. Anyway, that large creature that is kept in that container that talks to that monarch at the beginning of the movie, looks an awful lot like the Thorian (especially the mouth). I wonder if Bioware got the idea from this.

It's like no plant I've ever seen. Been awhile since I saw that movie, too, can't even picture it. You know what movie I absolutely have to watch again is Pitch Black.
