it would be an interesting twist but to me it seems just a bit too cliche. At least it would be a bit too cliche if they were biologically siblings. I can work with created by the same "father" though. It's a little less on the cliche thing.

You know, I never wanted to say anything.  But the whole concept of making a genetically perfect and... endowed female version of yourself... I can't help but wonder if this isn't what Miranda's father was REALLY up to.

If so... ew.  I just squicked myself.  If we get to ME3 and we find out Miranda's father's name is "Jack"...

Ha! I doubt Bioware would pull something so ick on us, but Miranda's father certainly ticks (from what little we know about him) all the boxes for a narcissist.

Maybe in the Japanese version... with Blasto as a LI, a squadmate who appears to be about twelve but looks like two scud missiles have hit her in the back, and at least one uncomfortable moment with Shep's mother/father/brother/creepy old guy that lives next door/Urz the Varren/all of the above ;)

In the Japanese version, Shepard and company must scream the name of the power they are using each time.  And you must use default Male Shepard, no gender/facial customization.  But you can change the first name.

I hated Jack at first, but after taking her on a few missions I am starting to warm up to her. My favorite part so far is when I took her with me on Miranda's loyalty mission; when Enyala insulted Miranda's outfit, Jack said something like, "I like her ... are we still recruiting?" classic

Oh, and every thirty seconds, while you're wandering around the Citadel, you get SWOOSHed over to another screen, to fight two or three monsters.

It may get annoying, but you only have to do it twenty more times to reach level 2!

Ya I think if either it would be Jack was also artificially created from Miranda's father. I think it's very likely that Cerberus did in fact pay Miranda's dad to make them a biotically superior child, since Miranda's dad is obviously very good at greating genetically superior children. She doesn't even know her last name and there is no record of her existence outside of Cerberus. You'd think she would know if she was kidnapped from her family, and if she was then she would probably have mentioned it or at least know her last name.

Did I forget to mention that Shepard & Co are all around 16yrs of age. Good thing I'm playing the western version, otherwise I'd would have puked for trying to romance an underage girl.

The game begins with Shepard being woken up out of bed by his mother. "Shepard, Shepard! You'd better get up or you'll be late for the festival! Why don't you go with that nice young girl Ashley, who's been your friend since childhood and probably has hidden feelings for you that will be dragged out through the entire game?"

"And Saren, the teen idol, will be at the festival today"
"Mother?"
"Yes, dear?"
"Why are you calling me by my last name?"
"You're going to be late dear"

It is starting to seem more and more like Jack is a grower... we've had a lot of folk coming by, a couple each day or two, saying they disliked her until they started using her more, or got more involved with her backstory. It's nice to have new voices in our little voice choir... we're definately the Rorke's Drift of the fan threads; surrounded by thousands, hopeless odds, but damn are we defiant.

Ok, who knows the lyrics to Men of Harlech? ;)

Have any of you guys read the description of Jack's biotic boost upgrade?

It said she was undergoing rapid neural degeneration that leads to increased biotic capabilities which could be harnessed with an improved biotic amp. Given all the drugs and experiments she has been through, this would make sense but it kinda paints a tragic future for her.

Ya it seems more people are giving Jack a chance after playing for a while because they're like "Well I've done everything else, I guess I'll try Jack's romance just to check i out." And then they realize they were missing out on a great experience and a great character, and they learn just how much depth Jack really has.

Ya we've discussed this a few times and I believe that all biotics suffer from some type of neural degeneration, and it generally leads to a decrease in their biotic abilities. But with Jack her biotics are actually increasing. It's normal for all biotics. So I don't think it's anyting to worry about, it's probably a very late long term problem.

Wow, you actually made a reference to something I'd never heard of before.  And here I thought my head was filled with every bit of trivia that ever existed.  Of course, I was a little more focused on obscure Star Trek references than 19th century British battles in Africa, maybe that's why. :)

I think we're being helped by the fact that the people who actually LIKED the game (and didn't hate it and came onto these boards immediately to complain about it) are getting bored with it, and gravitating more to the forums. I wasn't really participating in this thread heavily until 1) I started getting bored with the game, and 2) our little visit from you-know-who. It's been more fun than skipping through all the cutscenes again for the umpteenth time (yeah, they're great, but after six or seven times...)

Haha ya that's probably why you'll never see Shepard's parents, because it would be really weird if they would only refer to you as Shepard.

It would be nice if someone would actually call you by your first name in an email or something in your personal computer.

Hey, Fox Mulder even made his parents call him "Mulder," so Shepard wouldn't be the only one.  Hell, even when you become the most trusted person in Jack's life, she's STILL calling you Shepard.

I'd love it if BioWare sneakily snuck in some recognition of common first names in ME3, so that when someone suddenly said, "Would you just listen to me, Dave?" everybody would fall out of their seats. :D

The moment EDI asks Dave Shepard "Dave, will I dream?" is when I grab Jack and head for the nearest escape pod.

Haha ya I was thinking they should do that. They could at least have people call you John sometimes if you stick with the default first name.

Heh, I posted about this on the Easter Egg thread, but I thought I would outsmart the game on this one.  There's that one ad for a biotic amp on the Citadel that somehow knows who you're macking on and makes reference to them.  I thought, "Oooh, maybe this will tell me for sure that her name is Jack, or what it might have been."

And then the ad says, "...when you're out for a night on the town with ERROR: CITIZEN ID NOT FOUND..."

Well, played, BioWare.  Well played.

Wow you Bioware people are smart :D

Talking about the "Miranda/Jack are sisters" speculation... please no! But it would be funny to see their reactions when they find out that.

I seriously doubt Miranda and Jack are sisters or both share some genetics or anything. That would be so cliche if they are bitter rivals only to find out they are related later on in the story.

Funny thing, I just picked that name at random, like, "What's a name that somebody would call Shepard, that sounds kinda generic and a little goofy?" It was either that one or "Walter."

The only time a computer would give me the collywobbles was if it had Robert Vaughn's voice... get away from my uterus, Proteus! HAL and the WOPR were remarkably easy to talk down in comparison... and they didn't want you to have their children, either.

Out of the chess playing overlords in 2001 and Wargames...HAL 9000 scared the bejeezus out of me. Never got to see Demon Seed. Is it a worthwhile watch even today?

They don't have to share the same genetics (obviously they don't). I'm sure Miranda's dad has a lot more available to him than just the genetics that make up Miranda.
