Yep :D. Jack by far is my favourite ME character to draw, partly because I have a weakness for tattoos and expressive eyes.

I'm no artist, but the tattoo intricacy, the demand for accuracy, the Carpal tunnel syndrome or general stress and soreness, what's not to love about drawing Jack? B)

In her Purgatory scene where she's punching Blue Suns mercs around, I swore one guy shouted f*uck off as he was getting plastered to the wall.

lol I have no idea. This next playthrough's gunna be all ears. No more googoo eyes distracting me from dialogue :innocent:

SLAM-CRUNCH!

Merc Guard:
Oh, f*ck off! Not my spine again! Honestly, you need to get a new f*cking party trick, woman!

Jack: Squints... never f*cking shut up unless you finish the job. Where's my corkscrew...

;)

Oh, I should be ready for the drill by now - I sleep, you all go berserk, and I have to catch up. Seems I missed out on the Liara blanket-bombing we appear to have had. Ok, to catchee upee...

For the record, I don't really hate Miranda. I'm not even sure Jack really does. If anything, I think she just doesn't care about her. If she wanted to kill Miri, we can face facts and accept that she just would (not going to get into a debate about who'd win or whatever, all I'll say is the systematic pulling-apart of Purgatory and the whole Biotic-Bubble affair tell me at least that it'd be a Stretch Armstrong vs. Blender confrontation - sorry), and Jack's demonstrated that she isn't shy about killing people - Miri could catch a bullet in the back of the head during a mission, how tragic - if Jack wanted her out of the picture for keeps, there's a lot of ways it could go down. I'm going to stand by my belief that the whole Jack/Miri confrontation was 50% marking territory and 50% prison mentality (go pick a fight with the biggest person you can to demonstrate how tough you are). I really firmly believe Jack went up there to pick a fight, to show the ship how not-to-be-messed-with she is. I mean, everyone considers Miss Lawson a little icy and intimidating to say the least, and she's the largest Cerberus presence on the ship, so it makes sense to fight her. The Normandy's just another exercise yard... plus I like to think there's maybe an element of acting out for Shepard's benefit; maybe she's beginning to feel a little bit of an attraction and she wants to make sure the cheerleader gets no ideas about who the alpha female on the ship is. So, as much as I love Jack, I don't hate Miri. I don't like her personality, and sure, I like to poke fun at her, but nothing to the extent of decapitation or donkey-punches.

Jack and Tali... I know Tali is a tough little thing, but she's also a woman. Someone like Jack is going to intimidate the hell out of her. She might not show it (or try not to at least) but one thing Tali wears on her sleeve are her feelings; she's warm and gentle as opposed to chilly Miri and spiky Jack. If was can assume not all prisons in the future are co-ed, Jack's bound to have been in a female population at least once, so she'll have seen people like Tali get devoured by the pecking order. So if Jack wants to peck her, she'll be fair game. If Tali was to prove herself in Jack's eyes, I imagine a grudging respect could develop. A Jack becoming interested in Shepard though would see the way Tali is around him (I mean, observing is not just Kelly's thing... I'd suspect half the ship can see Tali's attraction to Shepard without any of Kel's 'female intuition') and might opt to assert her dominance there too. Call it my natural bias, but I can't see Tali not being intimidated by Jack. Jack is tough. So's Tali. Jack is also worldly and experienced in things that Tali hasn't seen in reality. Tali knows about machines. Jack knows about murder. Think about it that way: you're in the mess hall and Jack's stood next to you. You've fought intergalactic bad guys and their armies. Jack hasn't. But Jack has probably stabbed people to death with a sharpened toothbrush for doing no more than stand next to her. In fact, who knows what she's had to do to survive where she's been? You're just in your civvies, you're not carrying your firearm, and Jack has a plastic knife on her tray. Will you see her make her move in time? That sh*t has to intimidate anyone with the exception of a krogan, where tht's something of a prelude to dancing as opposed to paranoia ;)

Maybe I should try writing it... hmn...

Shucks, I'm not so sure about that... I tend to think of Jack as more of a product of imprisonment than anything else. Sure, she's run with several different criminal groups over time, but her childhood is imprisonment, and her recent history is a laundry list of prisons, so I try to flavour Jack with some of the nasty stuff I've read in books by long-stretch authors like Mark Brandon Read (ol' Chopper himself). That and I have Oz on dvd ;)

It's why I tend to think 'The Convict' would have been a better title for Jack than 'The Psychopath'. It's just my take on her... who knows how right it is outside my skull...

Oi, devs! How does BioWare feel about doing a game about Jack like Escape From Butcher Bay with rpg elements? :D

Oh, and I have this great image of Jack and Tali in my head... need to find a scene to fit it into... no, it's not like that. Not quite, anyways... ;)

I also agree that the convict fits Jack better than psychopath. They did use psychopath for the "Fight For The Lost" trailers tough, didn't they? All sensationalism, really. "The Psychopath" is a little more exciting than "The Convict" for people who hadn't played the game yet. Given the focus on "crazy" and outrageous in her trailers, Jack turned out to be pretty mellow on the Normandy. Another example would be Thane, in the trailer Thane's "I don't feel anything" did not quite match how he was presented in-game.

As for Jack & Tali, I had an idea for a little scene in a fanfiction where Tali is contemplating how to make her night with Shepard the best possible - and Jack passes by. Jack's the only human on the ship (besides Shepard himself) who hates Cerberus, so if Tali's going to ask anyone, it would be Jack.

Tali: Jack?
Jack: Yea buckethead?
Tali: Do you know what kind of music, er, humans would like?
Jack: *listing off bands and genres she personally likes*
...that kind of ****. Wait.
*remembers how many times Shepard has came over to talk to Tali*
Who're you asking this about?
Tali: No one, I-
Jack: Huh, no one is it? Let's see... Humans - uh, *cough* we - actually love elevator music (or something similarly off) Y'know, that crap elcor like.
Tali: What? I don't really think-
Jack: What, I'm not human enough for you?
-
(forgive any mischaracterization I may have given Jack, I've only just started writing her ;))

So Jack tries to mislead her as a sort of a prank. I imagine it in my head to be the misadventure that led to Tali not knowing what music Shepard would like in the romance scene. It's cute, and Jack's not actually being malicious, just mischievous - being her damn self, you know.

As for them actually being friends, I can't see that for the sole reason that Jack doesn't really make friends in general. I think though, among any other squad mate aside from possibly Grunt, they have a pretty good chance to "get along" not in the way of friends exactly, but understanding each other's hate for Cerberus and knowing that they are allies against Cerberus should anything happen. That's going to cause some respect between them, even if Jack isn't ready for friends yet.

This might get a little tweak or two, but I think you'll get the idea - a little bit of bonding, Unreconstructed-Jack-style ^_^

Normandy Engineering, 13:44 Standard Operational Hours...

Tali enters the engine room, a case in her arms, only to find Ken Donnelly beating a retreat in the opposite direction. He almost ploughs into Tali, who makes an awkward half-turn to keep hold of the bulky box.

Ken: Oh! Sorry Tali... didn't see you there.

Tali: (slightly irritated) Oh, that's fine. Where's the radiation leak?

Ken: Oh, there's no emergency, don't worry... it's...

Ken lowers his voice and gestures over his shoulder.

Ken: She's up here again. Last time I even looked in her direction she threatened to cram one of the heat exchange manifolds up my arse, so I'm not taking any chances. You should do the same... take a break, maybe?

Tali:
(firmly) I have a job to do, she's not going to stop me doing it.

Ken: You're a braver lass than me then. Good luck. I'll be back later. Remember the Commander is on shore trying to track down that matriarch, so... be careful.

Ken squeezes by Tali and beats a hasty retreat. Tali sighs, and moves into the main engine room. At first, the monitoring stations all look empty, then Tali notices movement. Sitting astride the main console in front of the drive core is Jack. She has one hand on the partition, and is looking up at the drive core as it purrs incessantly. Tali clears her throat as she approaches.

Tali: Excuse me, I have to work there.

Jack simply ignores Tali. No reaction whatsoever.

Tali: (with a hint of irritation) I said I have to work there. Could you move, please? Excuse me!

Jack: I'm nearly done. You can wait.

Tali: What exactly do you think you're doing, anyway?

Jack:
(smirking) Sitting up here enjoying the vibrations coming off that thing.

Jack arches her back and grinds against the top of the console theatrically. She gives a girlish little squeak and then grins mockingly at Tali.

Jack:
You should try it sometime. Might enjoy it.

Tali gives a revolted little sigh and puts down the crate. Jack swings her leg back over the console and hops down. She leans back against the console and watches Tali unpack parts from the crate.

Jack:
So is this all you do? Play at being an engineer?

Tali: (somewhat self-assured) Oh, I don't play at being an engineer. I'm a damn good one.

Jack: Ever field-stripped a T-17 fighter engine? While the turian army take potshots at you with artillery?

Tali: No. But I could. Have you?

Jack: Nah. Watched someone do it, though. Most boring-ass sh*t I've seen in my life. Guy shoulda been out there with the rest of us blowing the bastard's pointy heads off. His loss - he bought it in one of the barrages.

Tali: At least it got him away from your charming personality...

Jack: Oh! The Fishbowl has a bit of backbone! Interesting.

Tali: Is this how you spend your time? Insulting people for fun? It's a little childish.

Jack:
I get off on it though. Besides, that's not what I'm here to do...

Jack steps lightly past where Tali is organising the parts on the deck plates. As she passes she reaches out with a little energy to a plasma-welder - it leaps up from the deck into Jack's hand. Tali begins to turn and say something, but she is cut off by the sudden buzz of the tool jolting into life in Jack's hand. She freezes up. Jack leans over her shoulder and murmurs where her ears would be.

Jack: I'm here to kill things. And I'm damn good at that, too.

Tali focuses herself on the task at hand, trying avoid any signs of distress, knowing full well that Jack is just trying to intimidate her. She picks up a couple of her parts and opens an access panel in the wall to her left. Jack stands back and watches Tali for a moment. She jolts the plasma-welder a couple of times, but Tali seems to be intent on ignoring her now. Jack gives a disappointed little sigh.

Jack:
I thought you'd be more fun than the cheerleader... you're even more boring. At least she bites.

Tali: (concentrating on her work) I'm not giving you the satisfaction. Quarians meet people like you all the time, so you don't impress me.

Jack:
(mocking) Oh, you're hurting my feelings!

Tali: You obviously don't have any.

Jack: Oh but you do, don't you Fishbowl? I've seen how you jump about like a varren on an electric fence when the Commander comes into the room. So, you f*cked him yet? 'Cause I gotta wonder, is he into weird sh*t like you, or does he prefer a real woman... he looks like he likes a real woman, at least... never can tell, though.

Tali spins around, holding a length of tubular metal in her hand.

Tali:
(angrily) You've no right to talk about Shepard like that! He's my friend. We've been through a lot together. While you were rotting in prison we fought the Geth and Saren. He saved the Citadel, the Council... he's a hero. He deserves respect.

Jack: (amused) My my... found a weak spot, haven't I, Fishbowl? Does he know you want him to come play probe-the-planet with you? Or are you too scared to speak about things like that? Besides, he's Cerberus now, you should keep your mouth shut... you know how they can be about aliens...

Tali: He's not with Cerberus! He's just helping them while it's convenient to his own causes. I've helped him destroy Cerberus facilities all over Citadel-space.

Jack: Held his hand while he did it?

Tali: Shepard needs no-one to hold his hand. You obviously need a keeper.

Jack: Always have, Fishbowl. You just need a few lessons on hiding your feelings, because if I can see it, you think Shepard can't? You're just going to embarass yourself, sweetheart. Maybe you should just go back to your suit's sensory feedback sh*t... or your tools.

Tali:
(seriously angry) You  -

Jack suddenly collides with Tali, pinning her back against the wall. Tali tries to fight back, pushing against Jack's chest with her free hand, while Jack holds the other - and her omni-tool - above her head. Jack's biotics flare into life, suddenly pushing back at Tali with a force she cannot match.

Jack: (quietly) Oh, be very, very careful what you wish for.

Jack suddenly produces the plasma-welder and holds it close to Tali's faceplate.

Jack:
I always wondered what quarians look like under these things...

At this moment, Gabriella Daniels enters engineering. She stops dead in her tracks: Tali is pinned up against the wall by Jack, one of her hands seemingly gripping Jack's breast. Jack turns to stare at Gabby, her expression cold.

Jack: (tersely) What? We're making friends.

Jack suddenly crams one thigh between Tali's legs, then slowly runs her tongue up her faceplate. Jack turns back to face Gabby.

Jack: So, little privacy please?

Gabby turns and practically runs out of engineering. Jack snorts and bursts into laughter. She releases Tali, who reels back, while Jack roars with amusement.

Jack: (between laughter) F*ck, did you see her face? That's about the funniest thing -

Tali pulls back her hand and slams a good right cross into Jack's jaw. Jack is knocked back against the opposite bulkhead by the blow. Staggered, but still snorting with laughter, Jack dabs at her lip. She notes the smear of blood left on her fingers. Tonguing her lip, she looks back at Tali, her expression one of evaluation. Tali, breathing heavily, slowly pulls herself into a defensive posture, one hand still closed around the length of pipe.

Jack:
Wow. Nice punch...

Jack carefully puts the plasma-welder back on the ground, back where Tali had lain out the tools so carefully before.

Jack:
Not even the cheerleader had the balls to do that...

Jack turns away from Tali and spits blood onto the deck plates.

Jack: Not bad at all... I think I might start to like you, Fishbowl. You got a bit of fire in you. Yeah... I can see why Shepard has you here. You're not just an engineer.

Jack walks towards the doorway casually, still rubing her jaw. As the door hisses open, she turns back, grins at Tali.

Jack: We should do this again. Sorry about the...

Jack waves her hand up and down in front of her face. The door hisses closed behind her. Tali sags back against the railing on the wall and the pipe clatters out of her hand to the floor.

This reminds me of Jack/Murtock. The only problem is that Jack isn't the singing-inner-monologue type and it's a bit too melancholy. Oh well. Image IPB

@Mondo, and another Jackfic strikes again! I approve. It seemed different from the ones you usually write, which I'm perfectly okay with. It seems we've been concentrating on Jack/Shep's relationship so much, that I forgot how unpleasant she can really be to others as "newly-recruited". But the ending seems like a wonderful start to an unconventional friendship. =]

I think I've seen less episodes of Buffy than I have fingers, but I can see what you mean. From what I saw of Faith, she had that whole bisexual bad girl/stealth cuddlebunny/angryviolentscarygrrrr thing going on that Jack does from time to time.

This story is kinda early-Jack, she's been on the ship a couple of weeks or more at most, so she's still acting out a bit.

There is a lot of Faith in Jack. Both had a rough life, thrust into a situation far beyond what they ever imagined they'd be handling. Difference is, Faith eventually crumbles under the pressure. She regains her composure again, but I always thought her return to Buffy was laaaame.

Her time on Angel was much better as it was that show that really tried to dive into her crumbling personality. One of the rare few who liked Angel more than Buffy because of that.

Great one Mondo Image IPB. You really nailed the personality of "recently recruited Jack," with her acting very intimidating, crude, and offensive. You did an awesome job with Tali too. You pulled off her character very well. The way she acted is just how I would imagine she would act in that situation. Great job! Image IPB
