...It might just be me, but I find that soundtrack hilarious.

And to stay on topic, I'm also a Jack fan. Go, all powerful *****!

This would be hilarious if true...

Just went through that scene again for the hell of it... The guard certainly seems to say something that sounds like it, but it's a bit too incoherent.

I gotta admit that seemed kinda out of character for Jack and Tali.

Well nothing I've ever seen of Jack would suggest aggressive bullying, I think Jack would just ignore everyone
(except maybe Miri) if she does interact with anyone she would respond with threats and violence, because they are most likey in her way. Her just messing with someone seems weird to me.

And while Tali could be pushed into being that aggressive, I don't think would do over a passing comment.

But uhhh, that's just me.Image IPB

Here's my first shot at a minific, my own take on a Tali/Jack meeting. Not to invalidate Mondo's excellent mini in any way but I would see it going down differently. I don't think Jack would be allowed anywhere near Engineering, but one of the engineering staff might have to go down to storage to pick up a part, and Gabby and Kenneth just might be too scared to go down. But Tali, on the other hand has been through a lot and would be pretty unflappable... and I think Jack would be aggressive, but not abusive to anybody without realizing what she's getting herself into. She's a savage, but she's smart enough to pick her battles...

Jack had precious little to do with her time in the below-decks hold other than read and stare at the walls. Fortunately, the the files that Shepard provided her gave her ample reading material. It would take her days to go through it.

Footsteps on the stairs caused her to look up from the datapad for the first time in hours. She expected Shepard, but instead it was a quarian who braved her domain. The alien looked surprised to see her.

"Who the **** are you?" Jack said, climbing to her feet to block her path into her quarters. She looked the newcomer from head to toe. The quarian's mask made it impossible to see her expression, but the glowing eyes behind the surface did not flinch.

"I'm the person who keeps the engines running and your air flowing." She gestured to the storage area beyond. "May I?"

Jack didn't break her gaze. She wanted to teach the uppity **** a thing or two about respect, but she knew better than to mess with anybody who kept a ship up and running, especially when she was on it. She smiled, but did not move. "Don't let me stop you. Get to work, grease monkey."

"Thank you," the quarian said and stepped around her, her focus shifting to the lockers and containers in the room. She approached a large crate that Jack had chosen to store her belongings, which is to say she had dumped an armload of dirty clothes and gear in a sloppy pile on top of it. She started transferring them to the lid of a neighboring crate.

Jack stepped towards her. "Hey! What are you doing with my ****?"

"Your '****'," Tali waved her hands, "Is on top of my '****.'"

Jack thought back to the dossiers she had been reading, and about the personnel aboard the ship. The identity of the quarian suddenly registered. "You must be Zorah."

"Tali'Zorah Vas Neema. How do you know my name?"

Jack waved the datapad. "Read all about you. You and your friends. Took out a lot of Cerberus, didn't you?"

"Not nearly enough."

"Huh." She looked at the datapad. "They don't like you very much."

"The feeling is mutual." Tali rummaged through the crate and came up with a shrink-wrapped box for her efforts. She checked the part number and placed it under her arm. She walked back towards the stairway.

"What the **** are you doing on their ship?" Jack asked.

Tali stopped and shook her head. "You know, I ask myself that every day. But I'm not here for them."

"Yeah? How'd you end up here then?"

"The same way you did." Tali stopped at the base of the stairs and looked back to the human. "Nice meeting you."

By "bigger" Tali fans you mean...well of course I know what you mean. I believe any sensible Tali fan will read that and love it because to be honest, it doesn't show Tali or Jack in a negative light unless you're a fan of OOC.  I know Jack likes to stay in her hole away from people but that doesn't mean she can't have fun or maybe increase her boundaries, especially at the expense of Cerberus like Ken and Gabby.

oooh, that fic will be in my head for awhile, hopefully I don't have any scary dreams tonight :?:P

Learn something new every day; Mondo has no shame! :innocent: I mean that in the best possible way ;)

It might seem weird, but given the nature of the scene Mondo presented, it's more of a test of boundaries and character than simple bullying. You're the most powerful person on the ship, why stay down in the hidey hole when you can get your rocks off and mess with Ken while you're at it? After the engineers clear the room in fear, Tali's persistence might have slightly offended her, and as is human nature, she'll take a pot shot. We like to have the last word. As it escalates, it turns into a psych-test.

And while Tali could be pushed into being that aggressive, I don't think would do over a passing comment.

Passing comment? She licked her mask! I'm not sure what I'd do, probably stare blankly hoping I'm still alive after 5 minutes.

Well, thanks for all the feedback on my last little thingie... got to admit it was masses of fun to write. I got nice messages from Talimancers too, so I musta done somethin' right! I've spent so long writing Jack as someone on her way to being fixed that writing Jack on Oz was a blast. I'll just note though that my purpose behind it was to try and get some real mean back into Jack; I'd made her a little too sweet and cuddly, even when she's being a badass. So I thought I'd have her do something that was in character with a hardened convict; one used to being an alpha.

When people attacked Jack inside, they did it in gangs - only way they could take her down. I can see Jack walking through an exercise yard and everyone getting out of her way. She's top dog. People that mess with her have a habit of dying... bit like Shepard. And when Shep waltzes in to get her out of Purgatory, she's not impressed. She knows inside that ok, maybe this character did bail her out of a tough spot, but outside, that creature from the prison yard still exists. That's what I wanted to show - early Jack. She goes for a walk through her new yard, everyone scatters, Tali doesn't, and earns a few brownie points. It's how I see the newly-recruited Jack; sure, sometimes she sits in her dark little basement alone and feels the solitude on her shoulders, and all the pain seeps back in through the cracks in her facade. Other times though, she still has to assert her position. On the inside, it's that or people will come and mess with you. It's not the same. Plus picking on Tali makes sense to me... most races have various stereotypes they apply to quarians, and their fragility is one that'll stand out to Jack. That and Tali's Shep-Complex ;)

It was nice to draw her mean, to remind everyone that has started to see Jack as all foul language and obscenely pretty eyes that she has murdered people for pretty shonky reasons, and has done things that are as morally bereft as they come. Remember her take on kidnappings - you're in the way, blam. It's easier to just do you there and then. Sure, maybe some of it is posturing, but she's done things that would freak us the hell out to end up in the joints she's been in - just imagine that nice quiet fella that you sometimes talk to in the bar tells you he's done time for armed robbery, assault, B&E, arson, etc... can you say in all honesty you'll forget that next time he sits next to you? When we get Jack she's this barely restrained animal... one who starts seeing there are no bars where she is now, and there are people she doesn't have to wear a mask for. I was in danger of defanging her, and picking on the cheerleader wouldn't earn her any bad-girl points, would it? And everyone loves Tali :D

I am going to revisit Jack and "Fishbowl" eventually, just to show how they develop. It'll keep its dynamic I think, but you'll see changes. Plus since we know my Jack gets the guy, I want to see how Tali handles that. I see this quite neat not-friendship developing... something a little Herzog/Kinski - I like you a lot, but sometimes I seriously want to kill you because you're such a monumental f*ckup...

Anyways - always remember, Jackolytes; Jack might really be a cuddlebunny, but she's got a vicious streak a mile wide :D

So, I was browsing through me2mods.com's forum, looking to see if anything interesting had turned up in the last few months, when I came across a post by some guy saying to "CHECK OUT MY FEMALE SQUAD IN LINGERIE MOD!!" The results for these sort of mods are always hilarious, so I went ahead and clicked the link. Now, to actually see pictures requires registration for a new forum, which of course, I'm unwilling to go through. However, the description for Jack's mod is quite possibly the funniest thing I've read, relating to the character, in ages.

As follows -

"Jack (Subject Zero) was a notorious criminal but NOT NOW!

Now she's a poor little rich girl!!

Equipped with moms gold credit card and if she doesn't get what she wants, she's going to have a tantrum!!"

I can only imagine what the mod looks like...

I haven't read any fanfics that capture Jack the way you do, Mondo. You've been peeling away at her layers for some time now. I like this Tali/Jack dynamic you've established here. If anyone can't dig it, well, they're entitled to their own opinion, but I would argue ''They don't know Jack.''

That's perfect. The entire video seemed to cover Jack's dossier and recuiting mission, with Tim being TIM.

I'm turning insane. Everywhere I look I see Mass Effect, "You don't know Jack" keeps showing up on my HBO channels, and I keep forgetting it has nothing to do with ME2. Curse you, Bioware!

Hmm, Tali/Jack unfriendship? Image IPB If anyone can do it, you can Mondo.

Afterlife. Now...

Tali is standing at one of the bars in Afterlife. She has a drink in front of her, but she seems to be more intent on staring at it than drinking it. The crowd moves around her, and she has already felt at least one hand try and grab her somewhere it shouldn't. She looks around through the pulsing lights and the overbearing sound crashing on her like waves from the dancefloor. She wasn't alone when she arrived, but now she has no idea where anyone is. She looks left to right, sees a man stumble past with a bloody nose, then the grinning face of the turian on her left blocks her field of view. She tries to look by him, but he just tracks with her to stay in her field of vision. Tali gives an irritatied little snort and turns back to the bar. She tries to stare a hole in her glass and ignore that turian's hand on her hip again.

Lecherous Turian: (yelling over music) Don't like your drink, baby?

Tali: (irritated) No. Don't like the music in here either.

Lecherous Turian: (laughing) Well we could always go somewhere else...

Tali pushes the turian's hand away from her again.

Tali: No, I think the company in here is just as bad.

Lecherous Turian: Hey, everyone loves Afterlife! Women tend to love me too, once they get to know me.

Tali: You're drunk and stupid. What's to know?

Lecherous Turian: Well, if you give me a chance I could teach you a little about me. Name's Vorkan.

Tali: (deadpan) Hi Vorkan. I'm 'Not Interested'.

Lecherous Turian: (laughing) You quarians have some crazy names.

Tali: (under her breath) Keelah, this one's brain-damaged...

Lecherous Turian: Huh? You say something?

Vorkan slides his hand around Tali's hip again, this time she swats his hand away angrily.

Tali: Keep your hands to yourself!

Lecherous Turian: Hey, I'm only being friendly...

Vorkan suddenly grabs hold of Tali's shoulders and pushes her back against the bar with his weight.

Lecherous Turian: ... but if it's rough stuff you like, I can play that game.

Tali tries to get a hand to her sidearm but can't quite reach in the press at the bar and with the turian pressed up against her. Someone suddenly collides with the turian, shunting more weight into Tali. Vorkan turns to berate whichever drunk has stumbled into him and is suddenly shoved out of the way. A new person thumps into Tali - Jack. She's glistening with sweat and breathing heavily, a huge grin is etched across her face.

Jack: (panting) Hooo! Too much dancin'! Hey, how's it goin' Fishbowl?

Before Tali can reply Jack shoves past her to yell at the barman.

Jack: Hey, f*ckface! Bottle of your cheapest whiskey before I come over there and get one myself!

Jack keeps pressed in close to Tali, and while yelling at the bartender she taps her communicator open. Her voice comes in clearly inside Tali's helmet.

Jack: Any word from Shepard?

Tali realises what Jack is up to and nudges her comm channels open.

Tali:
Not yet.

Jack: Maybe the asari nutjob's eaten him?

Tali: I think I'd rather be chasing a psychopath than be in this place...

Suddenly Jack is yanked away from Tali and spun around. She finds herself facing a rather angry-looking turian.

Lecherous Turian: (aggressive) Excuse me, b*tch, I was trying to talk to the lady here.

Jack:
Oh, you mean Fishbowl? You can forget it, assh*le - she's with me.

Lecherous Turian: You?

Jack:
Yeah, me. I do sh*t for her you can't even imagine...

Jack suddenly grabs hold of Tali around the waist and yanks her close. She runs her other hand down Tali's chest suggestively. Tali stiffens up as though a poisonous snake has dropped onto her.

Jack: ... so take a walk before I f*ck you up, shortd*ck.

Lecherous Turian: Oh, is that a fact?

Jack perks an eyebrow at the turian, smiles, then reaches back over her shoulder to the bar with one hand. In a single blinding movement she picks up the bottle of cheap whiskey from the bartop and swings it back, smashing it over the turian's head. As he staggers backward she follows the blow up with a solid kick to the turian's chest, sending him spawling across the floor.

Jack: Yep.

Jack lets go of Tali and turns back to the bar. Tali watches Vorkan stumble away then turns back to Jack.

Jack: (waving remains of bottle neck at bartender) Hey guy, another bottle here... seem to have drank this one.

Tali: Thank you. I think.

Jack:
Forget it. This place is getting boring anyway...

Jack and Tali turn their backs on the bar and watch the crowd through the pulsing lights.

Tali:
What's wrong? Don't like the music? You seem to like dancing.

Jack: (swigging whiskey) Yeah, but no f*cker wants to dance with me anymore. All I did was smash a few people in the face an' now they're all avoiding me out there... none of these p*ssies know how to dance. They think that sh*t asari do is dancing...

Tali: Are we talking about the same thing?

Jack shrugs.

Tali: Just do me a favour, don't touch me again, ok?

Jack:
(grinning) What? Scared you might start to like it?

Tali: No, just scared whatever diseases you've got might... oh, keelah, he's back.

Tali gestures at a quartet of turians making a beeline for them. All of them look pissed off, and Vorkan is leading them.

Jack: Tali, get your drink...

Tali turns and picks up her glass swiftly as the mob reaches them.

Lecherous Turian: (angrily) Ok, you want to have this conversation again, b*tch?

Jack: (smirking) What? You want your friends to see you get your ass kicked by a couple of girls, huh?

Vorkan grins evilly and pulls out a knife.

Lecherous Turian: I'd like to see you do it now.

Jack: Oooh! Blade. Scary. Mine's bigger though.

Jack taps her comm unit.

Jack: GRUNT!

The huge krogan lumbers over from the side table he's been sat behind, shoving patrons out of his way to get to where Jack and Tali are standing. The four turians suddenly look a lot less confident.

Grunt: There a problem?

Jack: Uh, yeah. These four f*ckers say krogan can't fight for sh*t.

Grunt: (visibly amused) Really?

Jack: Uh huh.

Grunt: That's only because they've never seen a pure krogan fight.

Jack: They just need a "demonstration."

Grunt: Gladly...

Vorkan holds up a hand and tries to say something, but before he can get a word out an almighty fist slams into his face, sending him directly to the floor - do not pass Go, do not collect 200 credits. Grunt then wades into the other three turians with gleeful abandon. Jack and Tali watch; Jack highly amused, Tali wincing with every crack as a fist lands home.

Tali: Was that really necessary?

Jack: Nope, but Shepard said if I killed anyone while I was ashore he'd confine me to quarters.

Jack slurps whiskey as a turian sails through the air over the heads of the dancers on the dancefloor. She clinks her bottle against the glass in Tali's hand.

Jack: (smiling broadly) Now this place is fun again!
