There were three YMIR-Mechs, though,
yeah? Cutscene theatrics aside, she probably destroyed one with a
punch, then the explosion destroyed the other two.

It's funny, you have the explosion (fire), but you can still see her right hand with the biotic ball in it, in the 3rd pic.

We don't know how she does it exactly.:police:  It's all speculation, so you guys that say she uses a punch, are wrong.:police::P

Ah, come on, Johnny! Give me something to work with here! Do they all just self-destruct in abject terror because a little almost-hairless woman runs at them? Does the wall tear itself open in fear she might get a little blood on its grimy grey paintjob? ;) Play fair with me! Don't make me turn Jack into some chick who constantly gets shot because her weapon's range leaves her vulnerable and who might be able to levitate a glass of water! I want to have some fun writing these things! :D

Maybe it's like her shockwave... that there is energy leading the arm and moving away from it, so like with the shockwave, the upward swing just makes the energy arc upwards. The arm movement is just a convenient way to conduct the energy. Her hand does not have to connect to send the kinetic force into the object. The way I imagine it, it's like picking up fresh eggs; we know how much pressure they can take before we crush them. Jack has a good idea of how much force needs to be channeled into rupturing the armour and fusion core of a YMIR mech, or how much can snap a merc's spine (if she used the same level of force on a batarian, say, he'd be taking a one way trip to explodingbodyville and well, then the game gets its ratings driven up by all the gore ;) ). So she uses just enough power to damage whatever it is she's kicking the snot out of. It's more conducting than punching, but hey, she could stand there and look like a wizard doing it (a'la Miranda throwing Enyala across the loading dock), or she can run at you screaming with her fist wheeled back ready to smash your skull into so many itty bitty fragments. Jack's training's probably far from formal, so she does the best she can. And punching... just sounds better for her. Actually, this gives me a few ideas for more creative stuff she could do... messy things.

And Grunt would almost certainly be a sticky orange smear on the ground if she did go all out on him, based on Cutscene Power FTW, but without said Cutscene Power, she can't get out of the Purgatory station out to the docking bay to meet Shepard, so either some mystical force just wipes out all those mechs, all the guards, tears down bulkheads and only stops once Shepard can meet her (which when you think about it is probably scarier than Jack), or she must actually have those powers even though she never manifests them quite so spectacularly again. So, she holds them back knowing how far is far enough to push them. Plus, hey - it's just for fun ^_^

Stop trying to take my ball away Johnny! I'm playing with it, so it has to exist! Don't pull that 'there is no spoon' crap on me! :kissing:

As for tattoos... it might be worth looking into the meanings of contemporary prison tattoos. I kinda skimmed it once yeahs back for something I was working on at the time, I vaguely recall that tears are used to mark people you've killed inside, so that collection of tears on her back are (in real terms) how many people she's shanked in the shower (oooer). Anyone got any knowledge on this subject?

As far as I know, tears (typically on the face), do represent kills, but not necessarily restricted to those done in prison.

How about a little epilogue (just for giggles)...

The Normandy Crew Deck, Women's Restroom...

Jack enters the women's bathroom. Her face is still a little bruised, but all that aside she seems fully recovered. Getting into the restroom however is a little harder than she expected - a krogan appears to be taking up most of the space. Grunt is peering at himself in the mirror.

Jack:
Hey, Wide-Load, you forget you're a guy or somethin'?

Grunt: No... the mirror in here is bigger.

Jack:
Look, I know puberty makes your voice deeper and gives you zits, but they're not going to improve your looks. Only thing that'll do that is decapitation...

Grunt peers at himself even more closely and sighs. Jack slaps him in the shoulder.

Jack: Hey, do you mind? I gotta take a ******.

Grunt: Do what you must, I have no interest.

Jack grumbles something about krogan pimples and does what she has to do. Tightening her overalls up she walks over to the sinks. Finding there's no way to get to the water thanks to Grun't oversized frame she theatrically wipes her hands on his arm. Grunt seems to ignore the slight, too intent on poking his face.

Jack: Ok, what the f*ck are you doing? As far as I knew, krogan can't grow a mustache.

Grunt:
I didn't scar! You wounded me, but I didn't scar!

Jack:
(shrugging) Guess our Doc likes to keep us all looking pretty, then.

Grunt: I don't want to look pretty! A warrior should have scars from his battles! I have none...

Jack: (under her breath) Just between your ears...

Grunt:
(continuing) ... what kind of krogan fights a battle and has no marks to tell of it?

Jack: Uh, you? I got a makeup box downstairs, but I think it'll be to small for you...

Grunt:
We need to find stronger foes! I show nothing of Shepard's strength like this, or the quality of our enemies...

Jack:
(chuckling) Oh, Grunt... we don't want our wittle boy getting bwuised playing with the big boys.

She leans over and pinches the leathery skin on Grunt's cheek and jiggles it as best she can.

Jack: Don't worry, I'll go see if the cheerleader has any nice bows you can wear, maybe she's got a bra in your size - that'll show everyone how tough you are.

Grunt fumes angrily as Jack skips out of the restroom cackling gleefully.

Meanwhile, on the Flight Deck...

Joker: Uh, Captain... better tell every woman on the ship to try tying a knot in it... Grunt's smashing up the ladies room...

Yeah, I know there's no mirrors in there, but what kind of bathroom has no mirrors?!? :D

Sometimes being a Krogan pureblood (I always make Grunt a Krogan pureblood rather than warlord) has downfalls.

Regarding Jack's punches, she does use her biotics to smash the two Blue Suns guards at the end of her escape. I certainly think she uses biotics behind every single punch she gives.

A very Grunt "Ha!" to the Horizon comic. Same reaction to the Council when they accuse Shepard of being affiliated with Cerberus. He doesn't use the "I was DEAD! DEEEEEEEEEAD!" excuse enough.

Haven't read the quickfics yet. Reconstructing the room after the RROD situation from yesterday. Yes, I have rage issues. Why else would I like Jack?

So which mission is your favorite for taking along Jack? Obviously, the loyalty mission doesn't count. Either for combat or dialogue options. I've recently decided I like to take Jack along to Legion's loyalty mission because her comments mirror my own sentiment and her last comment I think brings out one of Legion's most interesting comments about the rewrite/destruction decision.

Ok, time to get a little serious...

Meanwhile, below Engineering...

Jack lies on her cot, arms wrapped around her pillow. As she dozes something prickles in the back of her mind, a sense of something wrong. She's had this feeling before, and dim, black memories of abuses and violations crawl like ants over her subconcious. Her eyes knot tighter closed and her head shakes a little. Hands on her. Don't touch me. No... there's someone in the room! Jack wakens carefully, hand going slowly for her pistol. She stays as still as she can. Can't give the game away... wait, this is the Normandy... no-one here would harm her... she considers her position, her fingertips brushing the Predator's grip.

Jack: You're getting sloppy, Sneaky... I can hear you breathing.

Tali: It's me, Jack.

Jack: (sighing) Go away, Fishbowl.

Tali: Jack, we need to talk.

Jack: Look, I never meant anything with all the touching sh*t, ok? I was just f*cking with your head. Even if you wanna play now, I don't, ok?

Tali: (sullen) It's not that... I want to talk about Shepard.

Jack rolls over finally, leaving the gun where it lies. She looks at Tali; sat on the crates opposite her, head bowed, shoulders sagging. Something's wrong...

Jack: Shepard? F*ck, go talk to Garrus about that sh*t. I got nothin' to say about him...

Tali:
(wounded) I do! I... I told him, ok? Told him how I feel...

Jack looks at the quarian's crushed posture and a guilty frown flitters over her face.

Jack: That's nothing to do with me, Fishbowl.

Tali: It is! He doesn't feel the same way!

Jack: How's that my friggin' fault?

Tali: (on the verge of tears) Because he wants you, Jack!

Tali's voice sinks away from being so close to breaking, becoming a quiet little murmur.

Tali: He wants you... ok? You.

Jack rolls into a seated position. She looks up at the quarian's facemask, trying to read an expression there but seeing nothing but silvery reflective eyes.

Jack: He said this to you?

Tali: Yes.

Jack: F*ck...

Tali laughs mirthlessly.

Tali: Exactly.

Jack: What do you want me to say? I'm sorry?

Tali: No. You wouldn't mean it for starters.

Jack: Oh, you know me that well, huh Fishbowl?

Tali: (suddenly angry) Tali! My name is Tali!

Jack: Whoa... ok, wind it in there, Tali. Whatever he said, it ain't my fault, ok?

Tali: Why you, though? Why you?

Jack: You think I can explain that? It confuses the hell outta me why he'd want to come down here so much...

Tali: (bitterly) You've no idea how long I've thought about him... I thought after Horizon that everything between him and Officer Williams was over... I thought that maybe...

Jack: He'd finally see what he was missing?

Tali: (quietly) Yes...

Jack: Maybe he doesn't like nice girls?

Tali: Stop it! Don't make fun of me!

Jack: Hey, if it means that much to you...

Jack takes the gun out from under her pillow. Tali visibly fliches as Jack arms the gun, then looks bemused as Jack pushes the weapon into her hands. Jack points Tali's hands at her, aiming the Predator at the middle of her chest.

Jack: ... then take me out. It'll be easy. Just give the trigger a squeeze and everything's ok again, huh? Come on, you'd be doing us all a favour here. All I'm gonna do is wind up killing him sooner or later, this way, everyone's happy... come on, you can say I attacked you. No-one's gonna blame you. I'm a f*cking murderer, aren't I? I'm not worth it... so, do it. You know you want to...

The gun trembles in Tali's hands.

Jack: F*ck, are you so weak I have to pull the trigger for you too? What chance did you ever have with him, huh Fishbowl? Come on, do it. You think I want this sh*t? You're saving him. You're saving me. Just... just f*cking do it. Do it! DO IT!

Tali sobs and drops the gun to the floor.

Jack: Sh*t... can't even make you hate me, can I?

Jack sinks back onto the bed and bangs the back of her head on the wall a couple of times.

Tali: (voice wavering) Sorry.

Jack: Hey, f*ck it. If I wanted out that bad I could just eat that thing myself...

Tali: You like him, don't you?

Jack: Yeah.

Tali: Why you, though?

Jack: Believe me, I've tried to figure it out... first I thought he was playin' me, then I thought he just felt sorry for me, and nobody wants that sh*t... now I... I like it. I get f*cking nervous about him coming down here. That ain't me... he's... he's screwing my head up and makin' me soft... and that sh*t'll kill you faster than a bullet, but I like it. I f*ckin' want it. You think that doesn't scare the ****** outta me, Tali? 'Cause it does. I mean... how could I compare to you, or the cheerleader, or that stupid b*tch that takes all Shepard's messages?

Tali: You don't.

Jack: Tell me about it.

Tali: You look like a criminal.

Jack: Am one.

Tali: You walk about practically naked.

Jack: Don't wear underwear either.

Tali: And you stink.

Jack smirks and sniffs at one of her armpits theatrically.

Jack: Wow, you can get that in your suit? I dunno... never bothered me. Maybe he likes a woman that smells like a guy?

Tali can't help but chuckle a little.

Tali: I don't hate you, Jack, I... I just feel...

Jack: Cheated?

Tali: Yes.

Jack: I didn't ask for this, ok? F*ck knows how many times I've tried to scare his ass outta here. Like a varren with a friggin' bone he keeps coming back...

Tali: When he wants something, he tends to get it.

Jack: Even me?

Tali: Even you...

Jack: Well, I'm getting tired... I might just stop running away. F*ck. I don't wanna run from him. You've no f*cking idea how much this sh*t scares me... I don't wanna screw up. I've done it before and believe me, that hurts worse than finding out some guy just wants to be your friend.

Tali: You mean someone actually liked you?

Jack: I'll tell you about it sometime, maybe.

Tali nods, Jack leans forward again to stare up at Tali's face.

Jack: How the hell do you dry your eyes with that sh*t on?

Tali: Heh... practice.

Jack:
(seriously) I'll try not to hurt him, ok?

Tali: You'd better.

Jack: Hey, he might even come to his senses tomorrow...

Tali: I'm sorry I came down here. I...

Jack: Forget it. You did what you had to. If it means anything, I'm sorry, ok?

Tali stands up and touches her brow.

Tali: Don't be.

Tali walks towards the stairs and stops to look back at Jack.

Jack: Seeya later, Fishbowl.

Tali: Goodnight Jack.

Tali mounts the stairs and moves out of sight. Jack scoops up the gun from the floor, disarms it, puts it back in her cot. She lies down in silence, stares at the ceiling for a few moments, before finally taking hold of her pillow in her arms again. She curls up in a ball, mashing the pillow against her, eyes screwed shut, teeth gritted, desperately trying to hold in the tears fighting to get out...

I don't think Tali would go to Jack so soon after her own rejection by Shepard. Also don't know how Shepard would have told Tali the reason he can't return her affections is because he is interested in another. I can see Tali picking up on it from simple observation, though.

I could see Tali eventually talking to Jack about it, more to open Jack's eyes and also as a warning of "you break his heart, no biotic power will save you from my wrath." I also see Tali sounding more sad and quiet versus crying and confused about it all. I think she'd save the crying and confused moment for when she's alone.

I don't mean to sound sadistic, but I like how you show how distraught Jack is about having feelings for Shepard, and at finding that her feelings are mutual.  Again, I don't mean to sound sadistic, but seeing Jack tortured by her feelings would give a great insight in to her character.

What I'd imagined was Tali doing what Jack does; brooding. She's been blown out and the person she's been blown out for is right under her feet. I figured it'd get to her, but not in a go-and-have-it-out kinda way. Just pure frustration looking for a way out. I don't read it as weepy and confused, just as someone frustrated... and I know when I get like that, I get snappy and I cry... I was just trying to draw Tali as a woman, not just our plucky little engineer. And hey, she doesn't get emotional until Jack taunts her, and then Jack does something that would freak anyone out.

Maybe I could cram a line in about her guessing Shepard is meaning Jack, so he admits it to her, but one thing I always try to think about with these things is length... I never want them to outstay their welcome.

Either way, I'll have another look at it in a while, let the initial adrenaline wear off and look at it with new eyes... see what I can do with it.

I´m starting to like this thread. :D

And I don´t think it´s a bad idea to have Shepard tell Tali why he doesn´t want to be together with her. It´s better to talk about those things in a direct approach, because sooner or later, Tali is going to find out why he rejected her anyway. Shepard saves her a few days of doubting by being honest.

Well, as I tend to say, much like Pauley Perrette in NCIS, Tali is difficult to dislike :D She's just so f*cking reasonable! Since this is another late-in-the-day ME2 story, Jack's a bit more trying-to-be. At the same time, I really wanted to draw Tali as a woman with feelings before she's our cuddly shotgun-totin' Tali. I think it's important to show some of that with a character like her because it's all to easy to get swept up on this wave of Tali - squeeeeee! and not remember there's a woman in there, with feelings, doubts, and fears just like any other. Just like it's too easy to say Miri's a b*tch... boy, am I gonna have fun trying to make her and Jack get along

That and the fear... glad you liked that, York, 'cause since Jack really tends to be the star of my 'serious' stories, I wanted to get that conflict, that fear of the guard coming down again... I'm just waiting for the backlash after all the positive feedback I got from Talimancers after having her get blown out for some soap-dodging tattooed skank ;)

And I wanted to get that in too - I've always imagined Jack to have a particular scent; she'll smell of sweat, leather, gun oil. She'll have dirty fingernails. She has this entire, finished presence in my head... it's probably why I find her more than anyone else so relaxing to write. I've got this finished image in my noggin.

And now you know where Kasumi will come in on this transformation from foulmouthed prisoner to foulmouthed princess. This is a shower, Jack... :D
