Working on fanfic. You people have ruined me. Anyway, the beginning is here if you're interested. Not much Jack, but she'll get her shining moment when the Hammerhead comes into play later on. If I write it that far.

Well, I've given it a couple of read-throughs now, and I think it's a really promising start. It'll be interesting to see where the story develops as this is somthing of an introduction to where we're about to go. Ball's with you, Paci - let's see what other bad sh*t Cerberus is up to ^_^

Right-click, "View Image".  Jack's playing a FPS on her omnitool.  Does anyone know the artist?  I need to give credit, and/or a link.

Thanemancer mode on

Siha means something like "guardian angel". His explaination actually is more accurate though.

Thanemancer mode off

We
need to get Epantiras to write us a Jack-appropriate, expletive-filled
tirade in Italian, so that Mondo could put it in a quickfick where
Jack's translator breaks.

That would be pretty neat.  I wonder how that comic is coming along.

Jack:  Che cazzo fai?  Sono venuta per distrugere questo posto.  Lo vuole ricominciare!
Shepard:  Jack.. I'm canadian and I don't speak Italian.  What are you saying?
Jack: Va fanculo Shepard!  Sei un pezzo di merda!
Shepard:  ../../../images/forum/emoticons/pouty.png... I have no idea what you are saying.
Jack:  Si vede... sei stupido come lui.  Non importa... distrugiamo la base e lo lasciamo qui.
Shepard:../../../images/forum/emoticons/andy.png... what the hell just happened?

Absolutely perfect ;-)

For non Italian- speakers:
Jack: WTF are you doing? I came here to destroy this place. He wants to start it over again!
         - F*ck you Shepard! You're a piece of s*it (or something like that)
         - I see... you're as stupid as him. It doesn't matter.... let's destroy the base and leave him here.

NICKjnp and I can provide all the Italian curses and foul words you want ;-) btw, Italian speaking Jack just made me thik about the Jack the Plumber / Mario pic somebody posted something like 100 pages ago!

EDIT: Just in case you missed the Italian version of Jack VS Miranda I posted on the forums a while back, I'm posting it again ;-) www.youtube.com/watch

And yes, the Italian voice acting is horrible :-(

I don't think it's so bad.  Her Italian VA is better than her Polish VA.  Jack rolling her R's sounds good to me.

Epantiras, are you one of the Euros who will be unable to play the Shadow Broker DLC when it's first released?

Meanwhile in Shepard's Quarters...

The commander's cabin is looking a little more lived-in than usual; the bed is a tangle of sheets, the floor around it a small sea of ousted pillows, covers and discarded clothing. The coffee table has a towel thrown over it - the material rises up in a dome over the Prothean sphere below it. Shepard is sat on the bed, back to the wall, eyes closed. Jack sits in his lap, back against his chest. Gentle ambient music washes over the room from Shepard's entertainment unit. Jack is staring intently at a bottle on Shepard's desk, one finger pointed at it like she is aiming an imaginary gun; the bottle wobbles a little, then slides an inch or two across the desk's surface. Jack huffs and nudges Shepard in the ribs with an elbow.

Jack: Can this thing come off now?

Shepard smirks and nudges back with his hips.

Shep: I knew it. Biotics make you lazy.

Jack rubs her back against his chest in reply.

Shep: (wearily) Go on.

Jack leans forward and reveals a circular drug application patch on her back. Shepard carefully peels it off and gives it to Jack; she promptly balls it up and throws it at the towel-clad lump on the table.

Shep: You really don't like that, do you?

Jack: Feels like it's f*ckin' watching me. Don't like having an audience.

Jack goes back to pointing at the bottle, even with serious concentration it takes a few moments to get the bottle to slide off the desk, and even more willpower to stop it from smashing into the floor. It limps through the air like a bird with a broken wing to Jack.

Jack: Damn, Mordin don't f*ck around when he makes inhibitors.

Shep:
Thank God... you're only supposed to get that many sprains, fractures and torn muscles from getting drunk and waking up with a krogan.

Jack reaches behind her back and yanks the hair on Shepard's stomach. He gives a little yelp of surprise. Jack looks back over her shoulder and give Shepard a crocodile grin.

Jack:
Compare me to a female krogan again... I dare you.

Shep: Who said anything about female?

Jack snorts and tries to stand up, but Shepard quickly grabs her around the waist and yanks her back into his lap. She struggles, digs an elbow into him hard, but he keeps hold. He runs a hand back over her scalp; the short hair hissing under his touch. He kisses the back of her neck.

Jack: Bastard... no fair.

Jack settles back against him, giving him one more elbow in the ribs for good measure.

Shep: It's nice to have you stick around for once. A guy can start to feel a little hurt constantly going to sleep with someone and waking up alone.

Jack: I need my space. Besides, you think I want to watch you sleep? You're either awake and fun, or asleep and boring. I don't like that cuddling sh*t; not all the time, anyway.

Shep: (mock-sarcastic) So you just come here for sex then? Nice...

Jack turns in his lap, looks up at him.

Jack: You know what I mean, Shepard. This is all... I ain't used to it. I start thinkin' I should be somewhere else, sleeping in my own space. Gets like... like ants on your skin, y'know? Can't stop thinkin' about it until I'm away from you. It ain't you... it's my f*cked-up head.

Shepard kisses the top of Jack's head.

Shep: I happen to like your f*cked-up head.

Jack smirks to herself.

Jack: You're the only guy I've ever met that would complain about bein' used for sex. You sure Cerberus didn't screw around with your brain?

Shep: Ok, so I'm boring, you're scared of my antique alien paperweight... suppose I snore too?

Jack: Nah, the worst part is this sh*t.

Jack waves a hand at Shepard's entertainment unit.

Jack: You put on music like we're in some f*ckin' lousy romance vid... y'know those things where some asari falls for some human guy who just got outta the joint, or he's a skycar racer, or he's totally loaded and she's just some dancer or somethin'... sh*t like that.

Shep: You don't think it sets a mood?

Jack: Sets my f*ckin' teeth on edge is what it does...

Shep: (amused) Surprised you can hear it over the noise you make...

Jack chuckles and slaps Shepard's thigh loudly.

Shep: What would you perfer then?

Jack thinks for a minute and smiles to herself.

Jack: Richard Penniman.

Shep:
Who?

Jack laughs to herself.

Jack: Dub-C woulda shot you for that.

Shep: Who's Dub-C?

Jack: You know those pirates I used to run with? All kinds of people in the clan; some of 'em were real badasses, kill you in the blink of an eye if you looked at 'em wrong, others were just drifters, criminals and mercs looking for something where they didn't have to just look out for themselves every day... that's where I met Dub-C.

Shep:
Old boyfriend?

Jack laughs and shakes her head.

Jack: I don't think Dub was into that... he was our comms-man. He could hack and lock a ship's communications in seconds, leave 'em unable to call for assistance once we attacked. He used to carry this guitar on his back, everywhere he went, like it was a life-support unit or something. He wasn't much of a fighter though... he was built like a volus, y'know? Pretty much the only human guy that didn't make a pass at me.

Jack takes a swig from the bottle she spent so much effort hauling across the room.

Jack: He had this box, 'bout this big, that he protected like it had the jewels of Ral'ashara in it. He used to play the guitar and sing really old songs from Earth. He'd try and record old radio transmissions when we passed close enough to the local cluster to pick them up. I never really listened to music before I met Dub... it was just noise before, y'know? Well, when we pissed off the turian military enough that they came after us, we went on the run... had this base tucked away on a little moon in the Verge. Dub made me promise to look after his box, in case he didn't make it.

Shep: What happened?

Jack sups from the bottle again.

Jack: F*ckin turians found us, dropped in a couple o' hundred commandos and mobile artillery, and started pounding the hell out of the cliffs where the base was. They hit us for three days before they breached the defenses and got in. We weren't goin' to back off without giving them one hell of a f*cking fight though. We fought the bastards in the tunnels for a day before they reached the hangars, and the few of us left had to get into what fighters were left and run...

Shep: Did Dub make it?

Jack: Nah. He got shot in the gut back in the tunnels. Told me to take his box somewhere safe and he sat in the tunnel with his guitar over the hole in him and he played until the turians got to him. Smart little f*cker though had about three pounds of C-12 in the body of his guitar. Flicked a switch on it - boom. Collapsed some of the tunnels, bought us a bit more time. When we ran I made sure I got his box out with me.

Shep: Did you look in it?

Jack: Yeah. It was full of these big discs, made outta plastic, that had music recorded on 'em. Played them by spinning them around and putting a needle on them. All kinds of stuff from the late twentieth... some of 'em were over a hundred years old. All the stuff he played, all the stuff he recorded when we were out in space... it was all in there. I didn't know where to find one of the machines that played 'em though, so I took the box and stashed it once we were clear of the Verge. Probably still there... felt like the right thing to do. He'd never wanted anything from me... 'bout the only person back then that didn't.

Jack takes another swig from the bottle and hands it to Shepard, who does the same.

Jack: Now that sh*t, that was worth listening to... not this asari elevator music.

Shep:
Well, I like stuff with a little more... power behind it?

Jack: (skeptical) Uh huh?

Shep: I've got a few Tycho Nova collections...

Jack bursts into peals of laughter.

Projecting a little bit of your own personal taste in music on to Jack, there, Mondo?  Either way, it's nice to see people adding to Jack's background.  It's sad, but also great, that it has to be done through fanfic.

I'd like to see some of those movies Jack mentions.  I'd like to see asari interactions with humans dredging up old, tired movie themes and presenting them in a new light.

Is this the fic you were trying to save from earlier in the day, Mondo? :)

Need some Jack inspiration. Been hanging out in the Tali thread (don't judge me!) and my muse is dead.

Not really... Little Richard isn't really my bag. I just had this idea for Jack meeting someone that had a box of old records and maybe made an impression on her. I can't see her sitting and soaking up opera somehow, so I thought good old-fashioned rock and/or roll music would be good.

This all came about from me thinking about peppering my serious and humorous stories with little bits of, well, pillow-talk; Jack being relaxed enough to talk about some of the things she's done and seen without it boiling down to her reputation for badassery or the really dark stuff it would probably take months or years to get the whole story about. And call it projection, but I find these kinds of stories always seem to come out in bed. I'll leave it a few days and come back to this conversation I think... put some more in it.

Plus I really wanted to get into the minutiae of an intimate relationship with Jack; biotic inhibitors (because we all know what sex without the inhibitors is like thanks to ol' Grapey :D ), little foybles, bad habits... make the thing really three-dimensional for me. And you guys too, I guess ^_^

Do you mean that these ideas come to you while you're getting ready for sleep, or do you mean that these moments of emotional intimacy and feelings of closeness would, for Jack, mostly likely occur while she is laying in bed with Shepard?  It's not clear to me what you mean.

I'm meaning in my experience, these kinds of conversations happen when you're in bed with a partner. Plus there's not many places on the Normandy where they can have the privacy to talk about things like that. So, I've projected it onto Jack from my own experiences; while the Normandy is making her feel secure, there are some things that she'd not talk about to anyone other than Shepard... I don't see her discussing her past over the mess hall tables or anything like that.

You guys know what I think about polls taken on this forum. Other than having a little curious fun with or trying to provoke others, the results are worthless.

They're also something to use to bump threads.  This survey had a much larger sample size than the other ones, which makes the results more diverse and maybe accurate.

I see.  I thought that that's what you meant.  I didn't think that Shepard and Jack would have any other opportunities, or time, for these situations, anyway.  They'd probably be busy with mission-related things.  Shepard would be too busy trying to keep up the appearance of being professional.  He can't let his relationship with Jack interefere with his ability to lead.  Due to that, they'd probably only have time for these intimate situations after normal operational hours, in his quarters and, let's face it, besides the privacy of his quarters, Shepard's bed is much more comfortable, inviting, and accomodating, than a cot.

Nothing wrong posting the link and bumping the thread, and nothing wrong with the member taking the poll.

That is a big maybe.  Accurate and diverse in what way?  You know how many people that play ME2, that don't even visit this forum?  Does this survey account for members' decisions and opinions being influenced by frequenting and participating in this forum by itself?

Yeah, but you know what would have been much more interesting (at least to me maybe)? Instead of completely anonymous voting, log the gender and age of the voters - that might have said something of interest too.

Accurate and diverse, in the sense that the poll could be taken by anyone, not just people who have permission to post on the forums by registering their game.  So, people could casually pass the poll on to their friends who only played the game casually, but who might have some time on their hands.

I'll admit that an anonymous survey that doesn't require registration and that doesn't prevent a single person from voting multiple times can have skewed results.

It obviously suffers from coverage bias, selection bias, and response bias. The margin for error is probably quite high. I am sure there are quite a few other factors that point to the poll potentially being highly inaccurate. Since I didn't take the poll, I can't really speak about how the questions were worded.

With that said, you never know, and it wouldn't surprised me at all, if indeed that the majority of people that play ME2, dislike the Morinth character a great deal.

That would make them a little more intersting, I agree.  I would guess that the average age for a member on this forum is ummm ~20.  That age may be a little high, judging by a lot of the posts that I read on this forum.^_^

Edit:  No offense intended to any young forum members in particular.

It asks you about each character.  Love, Like, Neutral, Dislike, Hate.  There are separate questions for the love-interests, and then some miscellaneous questions, such as who you'd like to see return in ME3.  880 survey responses were submtited.

EDIT: I think that the author tried to avoid people skewing the results, who hadn't ever played a FemShep, for example, and thus had no educated input to give about Thane and Garrus.

That's really my point entirely: if the poll wanted to say something a little more interesting, a spread of gamer likes and dislikes based on age and gender of the gamers themselves would provide a potentially revealing snapshot of what aspects of the game's characters appealed to male and female gamers, and which aspects resonated more with more mature gamers than with younger ones...

I can't really say about other characters, but from just being in here (speaking from a fanbase perspective) a lot of people that really liked Jack were either a little older than your average gamer or female. Sure, that's not going to apply to every fan, but to see which characters worked their magic with a particular age or gender demographic would be much more "useful" than one that just charts popularity with a blank face - we just end up with another poll that says everyone loves Tali. To get an idea of the kinds of people that like Tali would be a lot more interesting.

Nope, I'm one of the lucky ones who get it ;-)
Still I can't understand why they can't release that DLC in countries like Poland and Hungary, that makes no sense at all.

I've been on YouTube, looking for vids of Shepard/Jack conversation and I've noticed that the renegade sex scene is very popular <_< no wonder people *don't* like her.
Anyway, I was looking for the last Jack/FemShep dialogue because I've seen only the Italian version and I'm quite sure that the translation is completely screwed - in that version, Jack says she's not interested in a  "one-night stand". WUT!? Ehhh I didn't want to bring up the "to bi or not to bi" discussion, just saying that the Italian translators surely did their best to make players think that she's bi - and that she's not a "one night stand" girl. Which contradicts the whole renegade sex scene part. I hate translation inconsistency so much :pinched:

Why do you think that the renegade thrust scene would cause people to not like Jack?
