It looks like the artist gave her a breast enhancement in this drawing.

Miranda looks like she is carrying around a portable weapons rack on her chest.  They have an odd spherical shape to them, and they seem to defy gravity.

Mondo, Collider, Azint, appreciate your 0.06. As Leliana would say, sometimes it takes another to show us the truths we hide from ourselves.

I don't think that automatically makes you desensitized B) if anything, it makes you worse :P

So much weird slang in this thread.

Someone care to enlighten me as to what the hell this latest one is about?

Hey while we're at it, what's a "squint"?

That is a beautiful screencap. I thought she was looking into the camera...but she looks...sad.

I don't think anyone could be that into the story that they'd like a character for that reason alone.

Oh man, you'd be surprised Image IPB.

But seriously, you're probably (hopefully) right. While Jack and Tali are polar opposites when it comes to personality, they do share the fact that they both have barriers that prevent them from committing to a relationship. And both their romances consist of breaking through these barriers, one being an emotional barrier and the other being a physical barrier.

You can reduce just about any character into an archetype or trope if one desires to. Everything has been done before.

The reason these characters are great is because they have nuances and layers to them and are not bound to whatever stereotype they are associated with.

(Hope this makes sense - the original was much better, but stubby fingers pawed the wrong button and erased it - and I was a bit too pissed to try and remember it exactly)

It's not a reduction to call Jack and Tali stereotypes or archetypes.  Such they are.  Such was the intention.  That doesn't mean they aren't clever, because they are, and a great deal of our like or dislike of any character in this game is based (and the reason they are great) - in my opinion - on two things:

One, the talents of the people behind each character. and

Two - something I call "projected content" - which is where we as the player come in.

Take Tali for example - she's the sweet, shy one, sheltered from experience by a distant and cold father.  What young girl doesn't want to be Daddy's Little Girl?  She idealizes him, since she can't get the love she craves from him.  She has a chance to prove herself by fighting Saren.  Here comes Shepard, embodying all those qualities Tali wanted in her father - and more - a potential lover as well.  It's all gravy.  Ms. Sroka gets this across with great skill.

Been done a million times.  That's your stereotype.

Now look at Jack - badass beeyatch biker chick, all ink and ****kickery.  She don't need you, she don't need nobodah, muthafukka, so you best back off.  When you ain't look'n, she rescues that kitty and feeds the orphans anonymously.  She's a battered soul, a tattooed Venus DeMilo only waiting for someone to give her arms with wings attached so she can fly.  Sheppy?  Got wings to spare.  Ms. Taylor does a superlative job packing Jack's voice with character.

Been done a million times. There's your stereotype.

As to projection:

Take the Talimancers. (Please.  *Ba-dum - tish*Primo projection - proof positive.  People wonder where the fvck these people get all of this sh!t out of sweet uncomplicated Tali?

Easy.  90.9% is their own doing (This Talimancer Tali no longer belongs to Bioware, either. They change her radically - even if it's a natural progression of her character, and they will howl.  Look to Liara for an example).  Jack too.

All the characters we love over the others.  We project in because they resonate.  Miri is shallow because she p!sses us off, and we don't fill anything in for her because we don't care.  The more shallow she remains the easier to hate her.  Jacob is corny because we expected something else, and we were probably a bit influenced by those who had gone before us into the romance.  "The Priiiize"?  We're predisposed not to like him.  It takes an actual effort to take his story on it's own merits.

We've been very fortunate, we Jack and Tali lovers.  We had VA's and creators with sensitivity and a sense of nuance.  For the most part they avoided out-and-out cliches and gave us real emotion, or at least a very good proxy for it - but, whether we like it or not, these characters are not subtle - they are broadly written and projected.  They had to be. There's 13 of them and only so much space on disc and HD.

Personally, I think they all did a great job, and the game justly earned the kudos its received.  But the characters, once played, belong to us, and the stereotypes and the rest shouldn't really matter.

Just play the fooking game!  ;)

Bewbs.

Now the discussion goes to Jack's momma mammymuffins. (Say that fast three times.)

Her tatas are just delicious the size they be at, and as ****** go - IMO - they are the perfect size.  That girl is in great shape, and doesn't need to change a single thing - or a pair of them.

Just to forestall the next obvious body part, she`s got a better butt than Miranda too, so there.

I'm gonna look out for that, next time I pop the disc in. Maybe put up a pic for everyone else to judge that ass. Or asses.

^^^ I don't think you intended it, but that last post sounds incredibly dirty when you look at what post you quoted and then follow it up with your statement. Or mabye it's just me and my 16 year old mind(don't judge me :P)?

Anyways back on topic, I think Jack's boobs look small because of all the tatoos coveing her chest. When looked at from the right angle, Jack doesn't look flat chested, some of the above screen shots show that well I believe. Not that I would care even if she was flat chested, but she doesn't appear to be so.

.....Yeah, that DID sound super wrong, now that I look at it.

But to add my opinion in -- since I didn't do it, last comment -- I'm actually glad they decided to keep the m...I'm glad they gave Jack the figure she has. Wouldn't be able to imagine her with breasts the size of, say, Miranda's or Samara's.

Takes some of the feel away.

Fan-made Jack wallpaper here. I'm always skeptical towards the use of 3d models taken from the game (can you still call it art?), but someone might like it.

BTW look at the artist's nickname: "Squint911" ;-)

When it comes to Jack's... boobs, well, I'm just happy she's smaller than everyone else. It'd be far too easy to make a couple of female models and just skin them up, but thankfully our digital ladies all have their own bodyshapes and builds (albeit everyone seems to be the same height).

Just to run a poll update... well, it all went a little crazy last night as a phalanx of Ashley fans turned up. But, looking at it from a female perspective, Jack thus far is tied with Liara as the most popular female LI character with female gamers in both age ranges. Considering that all the characters from ME1 have crossover appeal to add to their fanbase (ignoring the spikes for the most popular LI in game, all the original characters have brought fans with them so to speak, adding about a third or so to their voting block)... it means Jack has considerable popularity with female gamers. I was kinda-right in my guesswork at the beginning of this experiment at least.

Hey, BioWare,

It appears girl gamers like Jack the most out of your female characters - good job! Now keep her around the place. We like her.

Love,

Ladygamers Everywhere

:kissing:

PS - no woman might seem to want to admit to liking Jacob Taylor, but I kinda liked him at least :D

I feel very smugly pleased about Jack beating Miranda in male popularity thus far.

Alleged "perfection" is apparently not enough...
