Bought it, played it once, and never touched it again (don't think I even have the disc anymore, which means I probably threw it away). I can't remember anything about it other than the combat was the most simple-minded, repetitive sh*t ever.

Jade Empire remains my favourite BioWare game.
Might not be the most polished, or the most comprehensive.
But it's my favourite.
Yeah, I'd say so. It actually surprised me a fair few times, something I seldom expect from a video game narrative.
Also, it has my favourite romantic subplot of any BioWare game in Silk Fox, although I do believe you've stated previously that you're not that interested in those aspects.
Still. Warm recommendations.
P.S
That said, the combat is rather simplistic. But I found no issue with that as the setting and intrigue was sufficient enough to keep me entertained.

I only mean that it's easy for a meme like "The Priize" to grow supporters like a bandwagon until that's all they're supporting is the phrase, forgetting the character completely.

Yeah, it's all subjective and what the individual prefers. I like a combination of both good story and combat. If the combat stinks, then I probably will get tired of it, unless the other aspects of it are really appealing to me.
It's true, I don't find the romance subplots as particularly interesting. Perhaps I would find them more so, if they were more in depth, length, and maybe were even more complicated. They come across as a bit of being superficial to me.

FemShep: You liked what you saw, Mr. Taylor?
Jacob: I meant you were a perfect example of what we can do, Shepard...Commander. I don't want this to get weird.
Jacob: I should get back to my duties. Everything has to be perfect if we going to survive this.
FemShep: Did I put you off, Jacob? You seem rattled.
Jacob: That's enough for now, Commander. We can talk later.

...Yep, she started it.
I was going to ask why Shepard would be considered a cougar..But then I realized that Jacob's in his 20's, and Shepard was -- technically -- in her 30's.
I don't really consider that to be the case though, seeing as she was dead for the last two years.
Edit: where's functional buttons when you need them?

It was nice, especially because I got it at a super cheap price. The plot is interesting but not as "emotionally engaging" as Dragon Age or Mass Effect imo, the fighting system is simple but can be exploited sometimes (one word: shapechanging). Companions are a bit shallow imho - and sorry LG, I really can't stand Silk Fox... maybe she's an interesting characte deep inside, but think Miranda is a nicer person :-P
If you want to have a good idea of Jade Empire, think of a game with Knights of the Old Republic good/evil meter and real-time combat.

Same here. I've noticed that, unlike most Bioware RPGs, in ME2 it's always Shepard who starts the flirting, once you advance the dialogue tree enough (usually after the loyalty mission) you're given the option to either show your interest or say "let's just be friend". However, Jacob's dialogue is a little different as FemShep basically molests him!

Personally, if there were no Jack in the game, I'd be pissy because I couldn't have a full-fledged romance with either Samara or Chakwas. Actually, I am kinda pissy that I couldn't. Chakwas is hotter ( I should explain that, not being 20 or even close, when I say "hot", I'm speaking of far more than just ****** 'n' trunkjunk) than Miranda just for her voice alone, and Samara is ... well, Samara. Cold or no...
Dayum. AILF all the way.
I'm going to regret killing her when I play my full renegade Shepard.
But we don't visit the forums to play the game,
Sure we do.
that's when all the fan-made universes come in. There's a lot of truth to your post, one is the predisposition to the characters before you experience them yourself such as The Priize and the awkwardness of Garrus' romance. They are always exaggerated, but they do start from some truth, it's up to us to keep an open mind.
Well, like I said, we project the majority of their character onto them - take Jacob for example. I'm willing to bet that a good chunk of the dislike fans have - aside from dumb dialogue, or inappropriate tone - is simple racism. Some unconscious, some not. Unfortunately, it's inevitable. Certainly not Jacob's fault.
A lot of it is squarely at the feet of the writer for Jacob. He made him an insensitive clod. "Go meet the AI, Tali", "Miranda deserves a better man than I" to FemShep no less. He shines in his loyalty mission, although he has dick moments there, too, but they're understandable as stress. He's a bro unromanced, and a great one at that. Romance him, and he's just a douche. Pity, really.
There are moments for Miranda, when she borders on the sweet and vulnerable, and then she says something stupid. The opening of the romance tree ("Maybe I wouldn't mind if you admired my body"), always vaguely embarasses me - not because I don't admire strong, forthright confident women - I must, I married one - it just seems off somehow. "You saved my sister! I'm so grateful! Admire my body!" Ah... derp?
I had hopes for Miranda, and they were pretty much sunk after her loyalty mission. She kinda had me up until its conclusion. Too bad.
Kelly is cute. Cute in an "How-the-fvck-did-you-get-a-degree-in-anything-let-alone-psychology-you-frigging-houseplant?" kinda way.

Also, I really don't think it has anything to do with racism. It's very easy to chalk the whole thing up to be just being prejudiced, but I don't buy that. Certainly, very little of the criticism or the jokes made about Jacob on this forum have to do with him being black.
