Yeah, the CGI one definitely has a Mediterranean flavour to it. In-game, she's got that rather pasty complexion. She also has slight freckling, and a rather big face/head (common amongst the Irish), lol.
Freckles?

Omg freckles...talk about subtle.
And her face/head is not big, having no hair will do that. I suppose she's got a long neck, too

I don't think Jack resembles Asian descent at all.
Really, commander? Not even a little bit?

I still think her eyes are exotically slanted, though.

The hidey-hole is a tad red, too. Sometimes throws me off. I can only guess it's the same color as her eyebrows.
Sheesh, you look damn close at each character when you enter their support thread. Someone's written a fic about how she got that head scar, I imagine, and I think a good guess can be made about that neck scar

It's actually not her eyes that had me thinking she could have a bit of asian in her lineage, but her cheekbones. The eyeliner can go a long way in altering one's perception of the eyes.Goat_Shepard wrote...
I know, I know. Most of that was referring to the FttL Jack, which I will admit, would be scarier. There's a stark difference between them now that I think about it. I wonder why that was done.

Think a lot of the difference in the FFtL trailer and what we see in game is 1) artistic license and 2) lighting and texture. Skin tone is actually pretty flat for the most part in the game.

This is under bright light, and her hair still appears to have a slight auburn/red tint to it. That lighting under Engineering does bring out those freckles of hers real well, and makes her hair look a little more red.Goat_Shepard wrote...

May be. Do I take your word for it, or enter a state of denial.
Aww **** it.

The hair, too, big color difference.

snp
HOLY SCHNIKES!
Hair usually looks a bit lighter when it's buzzed until it fully grows, right? That's still pretty clear...wow.
Argh, get these flowing red hair images out of my head!

Opposite, actually, lol... Darker when it's stubble.
-edit. So, it's very possible she has red hair (not my preference, though).

It's nice to see we've had another heavy day of discussion... I mean, Jack's potential ethnicity? Does any of this sh*t go on in other fanthreads? I'm sure they do, but considering the speed some of them move at, it's hard to keep track.
Well, either way, it inspired me to make a little Motivational to end the evening - just so you know, passers-by, I'm only joking... just to get that disclaimer in before I get b*tched at for bashing people/characters/little kitties and bunnies. I would have made a Tali one, but you find a screenshot of her looking sad...

Sh!t, it's highly likely. I can think of a few comics Epantiras could do in regards to this speculation about her hair and ethnicity, though, all ending in "None of your f*cking business!".
Jack is Jack, that's probably not her real name, so you don't know Jack. She's not gunna grow out her hair, so just keep talkin she'd say.

I think Jack just heard that name somewhere and just started calling herself that.

Oh they do, but I've yet to see this thread dip into the realm of madness I see on a lot of threads when there's simply not that much to talk about. It's entertaining, no doubt, but you can only take so much.

I tend to think it's not her real name, though... it would be interesting if it was; if she'd always maintained it was her name, because in some dim, pre-Teltin childhood memory she can no longer dredge up, she knows subconciously that is who she really is.
Edit: Is Tali sad in that shot, or is she looking at her toes? I needed a sad face, not shoegazing!

That is exactly what I've told people about my ethnicity. Surprising how underhanded the corporate world tries to get about filling out that blank spot on their demographic surveys. Guess the thought that I could tick off a much needed box in their diversity claims is oh so tempting.Goat_Shepard wrote...

I believe the recording that refers to her as Jack is the guard saying "Subject Zero is loose. I repeat, Jack is loose." All other times, she's referred to as Zero. I think the last scientist log even has him exclaim "Zero!" when she's about to kill him dead.Mondo47 wrote...
Well she's refered to as 'Jack' in one of the Teltin recordings (I think... I only went through the damn mission a few hours ago, but I swear my memory is getting faulty in my old age)... *snip*
So I tend to think the reference to Jack in the recordings was a mistake and she picked up the name later. Either from delving deep into her memories and finding references to a Jack there or she picked up the name for some other symbolic reason.
While thinking through her time at Teltin, I had thought that she actually developed some kind of an understanding with one of the guards. Like they weren't friends and he wasn't kind to her, but he was the only one who told her she needed to keep standing, keep fighting. And that his name was Jack.
