@Teclo: You're forgetting something extremely important. We're looking at videogame models here. Vidgame devs may have come up with crazy ways to develop environmental physics, but there's no way in hell they'll do anything as mundane as a goddamn nipple slip. That requires extra bones for the 3d mesh, an extra set of mocap animation to clean up [TWICE in fact], and a texture swap. You're thinking too hard.
Let's be straight. What's the first thing we notice about Jack? Most especially in her reveal trailer. Not her lack of hair, and most certainly not her belt straps, but her tattoos. The first shot shows off her tattoos, and the scars hiding underneath those tattoos. It's presumptuous to think a character designer is feeling "horny and/or retro" just because someone thinks a videogame character is having a problem wearing "proper clothes".
And let's not forget about the art directors and producers all concept artists have to answer to in order to get their designs approved before the modellers and scupltors go to town on them. You wanna blame someone, you gotta blame them all.
Honestly though, I could care less.

You know what I don't like about that Blur video? You never see the top of Jack's head.

Eh, I'm pretty sure they modelled her from the shoulders up and just cut the camera closer, is all.

Probably to expose as many tats as possible. If she had something similar to that in that model pic, I would rather it not come quite as far down as it does, so as to not cover quite as much area.adriano_c wrote...

Yeah, the problem with Jack's clothing can't be assigned conveniently away to "sexuality" or anything. Quite simply, she raises her arms or lowers her shoulders (or any other similar body movement) and that little belt slips off somewhere irrelevant and she finds herself the centre of her very own "wardrobe malfunction". You have to picture this; here's a woman who is fiercely independent and incredibly aggressive and yet she spends every waking hour trying to balance a belt over her f**king nipples. It's a classic case of cheesecake, fan-servicey character design taking over from actually designing from the character's point of view, and thus damaging the character's believability in the process. Miranda is sassy, sexy and rides around in space but it doesn't mean she has to dress like Barbarella - the only thing that would designate that is the character designer feeling horny and/or retro.
Well, I think you're missing the entire point of Jack's design. Bear in mind that in one of the character art pieces she's actually just topless; Jack's skin is the whole point of her looking the way she does. She's covered in scars and tattoos that comprise a living storybook of her life. Covering them up would just negate the point of their complexity and integral part in the character's background; Jack is her body. But, we live in an age where we can show our kids soldiers getting their heads shot off in Afganistan, but the sight of nipples has our censors up in arms because something almost all human beings have attached to their chests is likely to cause the most terrible of offence. That is the only reason the halter is there, and the only reason it never moves - timidity on the software company's part. Considering how much detail is layered on Jack, you'd probably lose her nipples in the patterns of colour anyway, so what's the big f*cking deal? If you really want us to picture something, maybe we should try and picture Jack giving a flying f*ck about her nipples popping out of her outfit... well, that's not gonna happen, is it? That's the only reason the halter is there and defies the laws of clothing physics - nipples are bad. It has bugger all to do with deliberately making the character into cheesecake (besides, Jack is very marginal cheesecake if you ask me... not many people go for masses of tattoos and shaved heads on women - ok, I like SuicideGirls, but I am by no means part of a majority there... cheesecake for the masses looks more like Miranda, and if they wanted pinup material that was more marginal or "edgy" they could have given her rock-chick or gothic overtones instead of something that is way beyond old-school punk and ends up with the character usually being described as "******-ish"... unless of course Jack was simply made to appeal to a small lesbian audience that goes for that look in women, and I find that concept impossible to reconcile in a product that is made to make money over as much mass appeal as possible).
The only reason the halter is there is because nipples are baaaad, and may make our kids grow up into perverts or sociopaths if they see them before they become adults. Or get married. Heaven forbid they actually look at their own bodies... I'm sorry, but speaking as a parent, I really have no qualms about my kids seeing nipples, be it on tv, in a book, or in a videogame. Saying it's a conscious attempt to make Jack into cheesecake while glossing over Miranda's hugely-impractical, cameltoe-inducing catsuit just smacks of short-sightedness (and could also be flagged as bias). Miranda's design panders to a particularly old steretypical image and a large male demographic - much moreso than Jack's design could be expected to be. Neither character is rendered any more or less believable by their costume, only more or less credible. By this argument, Miranda is just as lacking credibility as Jack. Besides, if it really was cheesecake in Jack's case, when do you hear fans of Jack talking about her boobs or "dat ass"? So, who has the least credibility there?

You know what's really annoying? There is a website that Blur did showing a CGI Jack fighting alongside Grunt, but I cannot for the life of me find it. It was really obscure to start with.NICKjnp wrote...

Miranda's love scene. 3d mesh and texture swap. Oh, and that lacy black bra.
@Pacifen: This what you're looking for? Usually it's just underneath the MASS EFFECT header on the website, but since the demo came out, they've must've removed it.

That's the one where they used a different model for Jack, right? Different from the one in the FFTL trailer, and different from her in-game appearance.

Downtime aboard the Normandy pt2.
It was Shepard's turn to lie face down on the bed half naked and groaning under Jack's capable hands on his back. After last time she insisted on returning the favour until he relented. Said his posture was all crooked whenever he walked, had the half-limp in his step, and she got tired of counting the times he had to flex his shoulders on the ship. She had him on the shoulder-flexing part.
Fast forward a couple hours later, she had her way with him and relished every second of it.
He had no idea how much pain he was really in until her fingers sought out the multiple knotted muscles hiding underneath his thick skin and took their sweet time uncoiling each one. It might have sounded masochistic even to him, but the more they hurt, the better they felt afterward.
Shep: [between gritted teeth] Damn Jack, where'd you learn how to do this?
A ghost of a knowing smile tugged at Jack's lips when she palpitated the area between his shoulder blades where he holsters a heavy weapon on his armor. Stretching back a grin, she playfully dug her thumbs into his sore spot.
Shep: AGH! [feeling another muscle twist back into shape]
Jack: Experience every place a body can feel pain, you tend to learn how to fix it on your own.
Caught off guard, he was about throw her an annoyed glance when he involuntarily melted into the mattress from Jack using her forearms to relieve the rest of the tension in that area. It was useless to protest against a woman who really knew how to push his buttons. He opted for humour instead.
Shep: [chuckling lazily] Right, then what did you need me for last time? I didn't think your arms can stretch that far behind your back.
Jack: What, you really wanna know?
Shep: Yep. I really wanna know.
Jack: You first.
Shep: Why me? I asked first.
He felt a warm breath tickle past his ear and all the hairs on the nape of his neck stood on en .
Jack: [squeezing his shoulders] Because there ain't been anyone in a long while who popped my back in place like you did. Felt good Shepard. I should take notes from you.
Shep: Then I should start charging for lessons.
Jack: Then maybe I should stop. [slipping her hands away from his back]
Shep: [turns his head to see Jack had folded her arms and gazed back at him with those doe eyes of hers]
Shep: [sighing in defeat] Agh, you win. That was so not fair.
Jack: [laughs and her hands returned to their previous task of kneading his shoulders] Come on. Spill it already..
Shep: [staring into the pillows and curling back a lopsided grin] Had trouble sleeping as a kid, so Ma stayed up and gave me a backrub until I passed out. As I got older, she'd have me doing the same for her whenever her shoulders locked up badly from working too hard. There'd be days it'd get so bad she'd have me use my feet while I sat in a chair. And that's pretty much how I picked it up.
Jack: Huh. Using your feet? That's news to me. I'd have to give it a try sometime.
Shep: Maybe after you try sparring with Grunt. [half-wincing as he felt her slap his back playfully] Your turn.
Jack: Salarian chiropractor. Traveled with an Asari acupunturist. I picked it up from them.
Shep: Sounds like a better story than mine. You know how much I love the way you tell your stories.
Jack: It's a bit long, but you're gonna love this one.
Shep: Hit me.
Jack: Back when I didn't have any ink on me, I messed up and crashed a joyride really badly running from the authorities. Y'know. Another military vehicle someone's left the keys in - Cerberus picked up on it and waited till I was crawling out from the rubble to jump me. Kicked their asses as usual, went back to steal their ride, and found out I trashed it during the fight.
Shep: [chuckling] I like this already.
Jack: So I walked a few days on a broken leg and passed out near this backwater colony. The salarian and the asari took me in and patched me up the best they could without a drop of medigel. The colony was so poor they couldn't even afford the stuff, so they had to make do with the local vegetation.
Jack: Normally I don't like anything with a labcoat and a needle coming anywhere near me, not much of a choice then. Living on my own I usually had to steal medigel whenever I had the chance, but that accident taught me I was relying too much on the stuff. Even all patched up I was still aching all over. I was just like you, couldn't all sleep at all. Usual round of chemicals wouldn't work on me, so they took turns poking my back until I relaxed enough to go under on my own. They must've known I was a biotic, they stuck inhibitors on me so I wouldn't blow **** up.
Jack: Lying around in a bed did me no good, I got bored and started looking at their med charts and whatever datapads they had stashed on the tables. Memorized things like pressure points, bone structure, muscle groups, nerve anatomy - it was easy since the diagrams reminded me of biotic implant schematics.
Jack: Heard rumours going around in their little makeshift medbay: those two were these ex-military types who spent their retirement going place to place fixing whoever was around for free. Never did more than what they needed to do, never asked questions about who they were treating.
The Asari caught me reading one day and as soon as I was able to move my legs off the bed the **** had me helping out at the clinic!
Shep: [trying hard not to imagine Jack as a nurse and laughing out loud] Wouldn't you just up and run?
Jack: Can't go far on a busted leg and a head all fuzzy on inhibitors. The faster I healed up, the faster I could get out of there. I played along, especially when there's food around, the Asari's was a damned good cook by the way- [pausing, half-frowning] ...... That's probably how they found out I was a biotic to being with.
Shep: So they got you to work for them, didn't they fix people for free?
Jack: Free as in they didn't charge creds. They were two people in a building of sick or injured civvies, if there was a healthy body and a good pair of hands lying around, they put 'em to work.
Jack: Asari taught me this neat trick, leak out the tiniest amount biotic energy to make a thin barrier around myself. Some of the cripples tend to thrash around and smack you when you're trying to set their bones. Like that one retired marine all messed up by Eclipse vanguards. All this weight on him with the armor and the weapons while getting knocked around by those mercs has done a real number to his spine. The docs put me to work on his back, I loved hearing him scream when I pinched a nerve. Whatta ****.
Shep: You really loved that job didn't you.
Jack: Didn't think I would. [taking a breath] Didn't last though. Cerberus hooked up with Eclipse mercs to take the medbay down. The docs improvised some weapons out of surgical tools and put the mercs down cleanly before herding all of us into a stolen shuttle. Cerberus agents called in an air strike and damn near blew us up. I jumped out of the shuttle and hijacked one of the gunships. Had them on a wild goose chase before I eventually found a city to hide out in. Dunno what happened to the others. When I realized I was in the same city I ran from in that stolen ride, the cops found me and dragged me behind bars.
Shep: [bursting in laughter] Now that's just classic - Oh hey.. [sitting up and flexing his shoulders] You fixed my back.
Jack: [sitting off to the side] Had to drag out that story till you finally noticed.
Shep: Hey, did say I love your stories. Did a great job by the way.
Jack: You still need work. The doc downstairs pretty much treats you for flesh wounds. You need to take better care of yourself.
Shep: I got you.
Jack: [smirking] Can't make all that go away, Shepard. Not in a few of these talks.
Shep: No kidding? Guess you'll be spending more time upstairs.
Jack: [soundly smacking his back] Yep. I'll be right here with you.
Shep: [wincing] Lucky me.

Kinda makes me wonder if she really has a full body tattoo. Aside from her face, of course, she wouldn't want to put anything important on her legs, rear, or anything she'd normally not expose. Some ink doesn't mean anything, they're just awesome looking.

Now, I might, might consider using the DLC outfit, because it's truly badass, but look at Shepard's face, he's so confused because he can't see Jack's eyes. So I'll wait for a mod.
