Number two? Did you tell Tali or Garrus the bad news on this? :P

My replaced XBox waits for me to take up the mantle of Worst Soldier Ever again, but I have a bad feeling about it. It keeps saying my discs aren't readable when I first load them, but then it reads it well enough on a restart. Like it's telling me that it is the lesser weaker replacement to the original XBox that died.

As such, Jack still remains unromanced by me.

Brain went confuzzled earlier today when someone on the Campaign & Storyline forum asked about Jack's age, thinking she had escaped Teltin very young and was around 20 years of age. Couldn't remember if Jack ever gives a general idea of how long she's been on the run, but I'm willing to give her a minimum five years on this, and prefer to think of it as a decade.

I'm guessing the two big factors in placing her age are the comment about moving the Teltin research to the Ascension Project and allowing time for her to be living on her own to grow a bit more universe-weary when we meet her. Ascension Project starts in 2176 -- don't know how long it was in the planning stages before that. Gillian Grayson is obviously Teltin Research 2.0.

Nothing says Teltin couldn't have been running alongside the Ascension Project. Jack could have escaped in 2180, four years after the Ascension Project had been running and a decade after Cerberus had already orchestrated the eezo accident that affected Gillian. She's have five years on the run. Not really a lot of time to do all the stuff she says she's done, but then the entire ME universe timeline for humans is insanely compressed as well. I wouldn't be surprised if the developers did want us to think Jack had done it all in less than five years.

Sundown native, that came out better than I thought it would. Nice work.

I've kept with a similar age range in my mind, it makes the most sense to me. But realized I couldn't point toward anything that made it any more definite than other possible ages given just how screwed up the timeline is in ME.

For instance, the ME website (which is ****) would like me to think Zaeed is 40. Yep, younger than 20 years old when he decided starting a merc band called the Blue Suns would be badass. Though I can see some 18-year-olds in real life thinking they could take on the universe with nothing but pure gusto for mercenary work, I... whatever. Just whatever, now I don't care.

Some details in the game just aren't meant to be thought out properly. Well, arguably every detail in the game isn't supposed to be thought out with such a fine tooth comb, but some more than others.

Make sure you check it out once you're home - I promise you it'll make your day better ^_^

I think Sundown means a beat-em-up game, though if we're talking about actual sparring, I've already been there

It did make my day better, it's true.  Thanks ^_^

It might not matter if Shepard doesn't have a family to take Jack to visit.

And what does Hannah Shepard have to say about dear Jack, hmm?

ETA: Always pictured Captain Shepard was always a good soldier, a model soldier. A paragon Shepard follows in her footsteps. A renegade Shepard causes tense family confrontations every once in awhile. His mother probably would be perplexed if a paragon Shepard brought Jack over to dinner, but wouldn't be surprised at all if a renegade Shepard did.

Number one, thanks for the compliment.

Well, hell, it is a neat name.  It's so neat, I've been wondering if I could use it as a ship name in a later chapter of Intermezzo.

With your permission, of course.

Number threeeee..Ahem. To be perfectly honest, I didn't really think I was gonna get most feedback on this, either. I didn't even put much thought into how it was going to go down -- it really all started as one little damned scene, after the suicide mission. I mean, I just looked at the screen, one day, and said "F*ck it."

Pretty much what I did.  I tend to write stuff just for myself usually, as a kind of exercise - help organise me thoughts and keep my brain sharp, and only very rarely will I put anything up for the perusal of others.

I suck, what can I say?  Still and all, every once in a while I get a decent idea and enough of an ego to slap other people around with it.   ;)

Next thing I know, I'm getting good reviews, and such ((I put this stuff up on DeviantArt, too, as a substitute for me not drawing)) and thought "What the hell? Since it's good, and all, might as well try my hand at it."

Kudos well deserved.  I don't tend to comment on anything past a "That was cool" or "well done", simply because I'm not qualified.  Critics should be good at the things they critique or they should keep their mouths shut past a "That was cool" or "well done".  Just IMO.

I'll admit, I don't believe I'm that much of a good writer. I actually placed all of your fics -- Jake's, Mondo's, Urdaniel's-- over mine. Hell, I actually dropped into this forum, from the beginning, and read ALL of Mondo's fics, on day one.

Yeah - fvck'n Mondo!  Being an inspiration and all that sh!t.  She's got some nerve.

Drawing's supposed to be my passion, but what can you do? I don't have most skills, knowledge, or the apparent brain capacity to remember what I said I was going to write, so I just piece it together as I go.

Are you sure you're not me and I just forgot that you were me, and I'm just posting this to myself in some weird doppleganerish kinda weirdness?

I am getting old, y'know.

Before I go off topic, I'll just end it here. I believe that you guys have got Jack down, more than I do.

I've done eighteen playthroughs.  *Looks reflective for a moment, then sighs deeply and shakes head, strikes such with hammer once, hard*  I still dunno what the hell I'm talk'n about.

I still have a few playthroughs to do before I get a complete grasp of her character.

After twelve or so, you will start noticing little things.  Like how all the Eclipse engineers are identical in Dantius Towers, Wasea was dressed in Batarian Partisan armor, which you had to cheat to get in ME1.   You help the quarian Kenn on Omega by giving him a thousand credits, you help the quarian on Illium get out of her slavery contract - but Lia'Vael nar Ulnay can go fvck herself.

Sad state of affairs, really.

;)

To be honest, Jake, that's why I try to make my more romantic and intimate moments between Shep and Jack so warm and tender. Shepard would treat her as well as he's able, because he has to see, has to understand, to even be there with her. I think he'd treat her like a princess. And I think it'd annoy the hell out of her sometimes too. And I think sometimes he'd reach the end of his tether and need some space from her. And I think that's why I think the relationship might very well eventually end...

All relationships end eventually.  Personally, if it did end, I can see it ending mutually, with a lot of respect between them.  Jack is far from stupid, nor do I think she's so crippled emotionally from her life that she couldn't eventually trust Shepard completely.  Anyone else?  No.

That may very well be all she's capable of - one time and only one time, but what a time.  What an epic love affair, even if it didn't last forever.  IMO, Murtoch affected her, but he didn't really change her - I think he simply turned her around metaphorically and said - "See?  Possible.  Go that way."  She believed him, and Shepard is proving it.

But I think it's because he actually understands, respects and values her (and because Jack has to realise that in the huge space that is the universe, love - real love - is as rare as a planet with dozens of rich platinum veins), I think that they'd end up back together again someday ^_^

Absolutely.  We broken people, we the bungled and the botched, are all we have.  We may not matter to the universe at large, but goddammit, we matter to each other.

That's enough.

If I was writing this story, I'd make you cry twice :D

Hey - I'm a sucker for a good romance.  You think you got the moxie, ChicaYou go right ahead.

That was cool.  I especially liked the tonal adjustments of her biotics.  Music, eh?  Nice touch.  Inspired.  Gorgeous. Nuanced.  It adds a subtle dimension to Jack and reveals a possible hidden depth to her.

Kudos.

I've finally got caught up in this thread after a small weekend vacation. Lots of fanfics got posted which is always nice. I'm really liking SoM Sundown, keep it up. Mondo your fic's with Kasumi are some of my favorite. That last one was great. Jake if you could post your fanfics in your blog I'd be happy to read them. I hadn't read the first one for some reason, so I haven't been following it. I don't really feel like searching through all the pages to find each chapter, so if you post them in your blog I'll definitely check'm out.
