I only play FemSheps, but agree that Jack is a really interesting character. Watching her try so hard in the suicide mission bubble run really cememnted the endearment, especially right at the end. I agree with the above that Jack should loosen up in ME3 based on choices (loyalty mission done, Paragon/Renegade romance, etc.), while still retaining that uniqueness. A design challenge to be sure

But I love all the ME characters. So I support Suze(used this name before her name was known - so it's kinda stuck in my head Posted Image ).

An interesting point. I don't think I'd ever have thought of this thread, or the people commenting in it, as being intimidating, but I can see why that might be the case. It seems so easy for me, personally, to comment in here with the rest of you. It's probably got something to do with what someone else said earlier about us Jackolytes having a certain "I-don't-give-a-****-ness" attributed to us.

I read alot of it. I don't mention anything myself though incase you guys already covered it, and I don't like taking the stick to the dead horse. .. I could just read through the thread, yes, but my attention span is abysmal when it comes down to reading.

Meh... we've covered a number of the topics concerning Jack several times over, to be sure. My comment was meant more toward the belief that, yes, you may mention something that we've already covered, but seeing that same idea from someone else's viewpoint and having it worded in a slightly different manner or compared to something you personally think up has the chance to arouse a discussion that we've yet to really dig through.

And I think that's why so many of us that post frequently honestly believe that Jack is an very deep character. She's deep because we allow ourselves to wade into the mess that is Jack, and we want to see what we find. Yeah, it means backtracking sometimes and "beating a deadhorse" on occasion. However, I don't think we've ever chided someone in this thread for posting an opinion that's been stated before, so feel free to join in and let us hear you out. :D

Believe me, I've probably said the same thing five or six times in this thread and haven't even noticed it. I'm just somebody who likes to have something to yak about, even if it's ground that's already been covered.

That's the good thing about being in a thread of a character that's less popular than others: unless you're outright trolling, it's doubtful we're going to say, "NO!  You're posting WRONG!  Don't ever post here again!"  Not saying the other threads do that (they seem pretty inclusive, too), but we need all the support, enthusiastic or tepid, that we can get. :)

Please don't feel that way. Go ahead and join in on the conversation. And if you want to bring up something new that we haven't covered or if you don't know if we have covered it, go ahead. I try to reply to as many people as I can. If you've noticed a lot of my posts consists of multiple quotes from different people. I like to make people feel included.

I'll mooch through anyway, just because (I sure as hell wouldn't do this for Tali!), post my few thoughts later if I have any. :D

I really need to get one of my Jack screens as an avatar as well, hmm..

Will do.

Also I started a new game yesterday and I just recruited Jack. I feel this is relevant enough.

Hell, sometimes I don't feel I have anything to add, I like to read others thoughts, plus most of the time I'm reading from my phone and posting from that can get a little tedious and annoying. But I am a huge Jack fan and I like to hear...err...read what others think.

On the subject of "Repeating myself," I've said this before, but I love being part of a thread that doesn't feel like it needs to keep bumping itself to the top of the board.  When I come in here, I can be pretty sure I'm not going to see anybody saying, "Man, it's boring tonight." or desperately try to come up with something to talk about just to keep the thread moving.  We may not always have a discussion going on every single second of the day, but the folks who like this thread will come back at some point to contribute.  It might not always be COMPLETELY substantive every single time, but it's probably always going to be something a little interesting to read.

Almost kinda wish we got more fan art than we do, though.  That one the person from the fan-art thread did ages ago wasn't too bad, and despite its... nippliness, I didn't think that one with Jack tattooing herself was bad at all.  I guess the elaborate tattoos are a deterrent.

Well I'm the token-"Talimancer"* here, so I think I'll settle for being demure for now.

*- Am I the only one thinks "Talimancer" sounds like some sort of wiccan practice?

I think we all know that in our heart of hearts, the threads that are in 1000+ pages and in their 2nd or 3rd incarnation are probably not read by anyone outside of its regulars, and that such threads probably will have no bearing on the potential futures of the characters they were crafted to support.

We might drift in and out like the tide, and we might echo ourselves sometimes, but we're a bit more likely to have someone from up on high poke a nose through the door like this. Not saying they ever would, but if they were to... they'd not be collecting their pensions before they found what they were looking for with us. We're civil to trolls (more or less) and we don't get into mutually-assured-destruction flamewars with one another and folk that disagree with our humble opines. Everyone's welcome down here near the bottom.

We're the Jackolytes - help yourselves to a chair... then throw it at Miranda :D

Maybe... but I'll bet I'm the only one that hears "Jackolyte" and suddenly wonders what a pumpkin with a carving of Jack in it looks like. :?

No you are not the only one. It sounds very weird. I actually didn't know it meant Tali-Romancer until recently lol. When I see the word "Talimancer" I think of necromancer and that a 'talimancer' is someone that raises Tali from the dead, which then makes me think of that disturbing picture of the paper mache Tali.

I think it makes the character they support look weird. I know all the crazy Tali fans and the Tali fan thread shouldn't affect my view towards Tali, but it does. I feel like if I start to like Tali a lot then I'm one of those creepy Tali fans who puts a picture of their face over Shepard's in a screenshot of the Tali romance scene. Tali used to be my favorite squadmate, but my likeness towards her has decreased because of all the crazy Tali fans, not just because I like Jack more.

Btw I'm not saying all Tali fans are crazy. When I say "crazy Tali fan," I'm refering to the Tali fans that are actually crazy.

As long as the guy doesn't start putting people in the blender and injecting the pulp into it to bring it to life...

Oh God... I think I just created a whole new slasher-movie franchise... Freddy Vs. Jason. Vs. Dr. Talimancer :D

Apparently that was a hoax. I didn't read the whole story, but when you cry 'wolf' people will listen...Posted Image
Besides, the legs were wrong.Posted Image

Anyways I didn't really come here to talk about a different character. So, any thoughts on that omega tattoo on Jack's back?

Well I believe omega means 'the end.' Like alpha and omega, beginning and the end. And Jack is all about ending stuff, generally lives. It goes nicely with "DEATH" tattood on her fingers lol.

It could possibly have to do with the bible quote.  I think it's from Revelation.  "I am the Alpha and the Omega..."

Sort of a symbol of death.  Perhaps her way of telling everyone she is the harbringer of their doom.

I haven't been to Catholic school in over 12 years so I could be off about it.

Could also be a reference to a kill (or kills) she made on Omega.  Might also have something to do with that cult she'd joined at one point. It's sadly hard to even speculate on the meaning of most of those tattoos. We know some of them are related to surgeries potentially from when she was on Pragia, but after that it's all guess work.

There are two other tattoos on her, though, that have always intrigued me. The first is that 4-pointed star, the big one, on her stomach. The other would be the four skeletal hands (which incidentally has another 4-pointed star inside it) that is just below her neck.

The symbol's been around for so damn long it's had dozens of meanings applied to it, and as is the case with fiction, you can apply even more with writing into something. It's the symbol of an old Sumerian monther-goddess (Ninhursag), it's the last letter of the Greek alphabet (and can be interpreted thus to be literally 'the end'), has far too many uses in math and physics, it's sometimes used as a precept symbol in death records for time of death, the omega-wolf is the lowest ranking animal in the pack, the Omega-Point is the pinacle of universal development in certain theories, Omega is an old DC supervillain who is the embodiment of hate, and it's the name of the ME universe's Mos Eisley analogue.

Could mean anything as far as I can see it... though I do like the omega pack-animal meaning... Jack putting herself at the bottom in a group, last to be regarded, first to be used... or there's an Omega Correctional Facility out there somewhere ^_^

Or maybe she just liked it.

The only reference to a necklace of hands I can think of offhand is the old Aztec goddess Coatlicue has a neckless of four severed hands in most of her representations (this includes hearts too in some versions)... she's a multifaceted goddess who fills the role of an earth-goddess, the mother of the moon and stars, a war goddess and a patron of those who die in childbirth... she also has a serpent's head and a skirt made of snakes most of the time too... not really much of a looker ;)

I know that in some old middle-eastern (and old european also) traditions a severed hand was a traditional object to take from the dead as a proof of death; either to present to the family or chieftain as taking something more obvious like the head was either taboo or only done during open warfare as a trophy. Soooo... Jack says some are for things she's lost... perhaps there are four people or things that have mattered enough over the years it's how she remembers them, or it could be on the flipside four significant kills.

Actually I'm currently running through the game again with one of horde of Sheps, one with a Sole Survivor/Ruthless background and usually pans out about 60/40 Paragon/Renegade... about as mean and intolerant as I can get... she comes off like the stereotypical hardass racist sarge in most war movies. She has a problem with Batarians thanks to her background - I auto-Renegade any situation with them, and Jack is kind enough to have given us the only racial epithet I've noticed in the game: calling Batarians 'Squints'.

So now I'm sat here muttering 'I'd like to see you try, Squint,' at the screen... video games can make you violent and racist!

What about when she's talking about Murtock and she says that he "waded into the squints." What does that mean?
