OK, I have to ask.

How many of you have this game on PC?

I do, since I have no other gaming platform - well, I still own a Playstation 1 but it's a bit... obsolete now ;-)

Well...I still own a Nintendo 64, if it's any consolation.

Used to have a PS1...But it got fed up, and left.

Ha, reminds me of the times when I didn't know Baldur's Gate and I believed that "RPGs" were things like Final Fantasy.

Back on topic, wow new Jack screenshots :D

I'm gonna have to start tweaking my damn recorder. The quality -- not to mention the size of the videos I make -- suck.

I think this one looks pretty neat.  Seen several similar to it though.

Are we comparing video game e-peens?  I have a Dreamcast I'll occasionally pull out to play some Crazy Taxi.  I play ME2 on the PC.

And Epantiras, that made me laugh.  I wasn't expecting a reaction image from you.

I'd love to have a PS1 again. Syphon Filter and Star Wars: Episode 1 all day every day.

Still play Gamecube since my original Xbox died.

Whatever became of that discussion of whether or not it's immoral, and cruel to Jack, to get her her biotic amp upgrade? The reasoning was that it might accelerate her neural degeneration.

^^^

It got passed off as a simple upgrade.

I was always confused about what they were actually talking about. The biotic upgrade you find in the Teltin facility, or the Subject Zero Biotic Boost upgrade that comes after it.

Unless you talk to Jack, before the mission triggers.

The latter upgrade.

I found that question interesting as well. Is it immoral to take the biotic upgrade found in Pragia? I never really put any thought into it until someone brought it up. It's certainly an interesting topic. Would you taking it be wrong because of how the research was obtained? Or would it be wrong to let all that torturing occur and nothing come of it and let that pain go to waste by passing by the research?

Not that upgrade, the one specifically for Jack.  It increases her biotic damage by 20%.

"Subject Zero Biotic Boost

Jack gets +20% biotic damage

Jack's vital signs show progressive neural degeneration, which would normally decrease her potential ability to generate mass effect fields.  Instead, her ability appears to be increasing. Replacing the power module in her bio-amp with a higher-capacity prototype module would dramatically increase the strength of Jack's biotics."

The question is whether or not this will accelerate Jack's neural degeneration.   If it does, is it immoral, and cruel to her, to research the upgrade, from a roleplaying perspective?

At least not one that isn't drawn by her. It made me laugh too

I use PC also. Lucky enough to have a nice rig more than capable of playing at max; it was a present to myself a few months ago for getting my pilot's license ^_^

Also, I'm in denial about the "Jack is going to degenerate and die" thing. Codex says she's getting more powerful, not less, so therefore the typical degeneration associated with biotic ability for some reason does not affect her in the same way. At least that's what I tell myself until proven wrong because I like it better that way :wizard:

Edit: Just read the york's quote from the game, and that's depressing. I don't remember it stating flat-out that she shows signs of degeneration. I'm still in denial.

You know, I never thought about that. Good question
From a gameplay standpoint, it doesn't matter. But from a Roleplaying standpoint, it does make you stop and think. really don't know how to handle this from a morality point of view.

Makes you wonder how Jack would react to that, if it were explored, further.

'Cause with the way it is, now, Jack doesn't really seem to care. And if she does, not all that much.

I want to hear what she thinks about the neural degeneration. I wonder if she's even aware. If she is, like you said, she probably doesn't care. She doesn't expect to live that long to suffer the effects of the neural degeneration. It'd be pretty heavy stuff if she were to talk with Shepard about it, though.

Jack supposedly has a higher chance of dying during the suicide mission without the neural upgrade, not saying she won't survive without it either.

Gameplay decrees that the upgrade process is automatic. You buy it, they use it. You're only responsible for financing research projects, so in a way that's removing a small amount of the weight behind your choice to upgrade Jack's biotic amps. Not by much.

It'd be interesting for Shepard to go around asking his teammates what they think of the new upgrades he gave them.

I think it depends upon the information Shepard is privy to.  He knows that she's a biotic wrecking ball, so giving her an upgrade that increases her abilities is the smart thing to do.  He doesn't know what's on the other side of the Relay, but having a stronger Jack can only help.

If he learns about the neural degeneration from purchasing the upgrade, that brings additional information in to his deliberations.  The neural degeneration is progressive, so it will take a while.  Jack being stronger could save her in a dangerous situation.  Certain complications later, vs. possible death now.

From a roleplaying perspective, I'd have Shepard give it to her, but make it known that he knows about the neural degeneration.  Maybe Mordin mentioned it in passing.  If she's worried about it, I'd say that, for now, it's worth the risk.

*snip*

I bet that was pretty fun.  I wish I would have been there.  I think that would be pretty cool to come across some of the members that post in the Jack thread at one of those expos.

It's kinda strange seeing you two, because I picture you both as your avatars.  You just can't put a face on fellow online members.

The lines were crazy. The line for re-entry was as long as the line to buy tickets. I don't know if cons are rare, big events there, but I've not seen even the NY Comic Con so busy.
