Well they were ripping off a bunch of Batarians, so I'm assuming 'Squint' is a racial epithet... makes sense as one, taking the extra eyes into account.

The problem with that though, is that in the Art of Mass Effect vids, Matt Rhodes clearly states that each tattoo Jack has holds some sort of meaning, and Jack pretty much confirms the same in-game when explaining what's up with her ink.

My insatiable curiosity wishes one of the Devs would pop in and explain what each tattoo means (Though part of me wonders if they even know themselves; did they just slap a bunch of cool looking art on her and then leave the meanings to be forever known only to her character?), Jack says some are for prisons, some are for kills, and some are for things she's lost. Things she's lost? What things I wonder? Murtock's definitley one of them, but which tattoo represents his death? What are the other things she's lost, what are the tattoo's she used to signify them? I want to know damnit! :pinched:

Digressing a bit, Jack's comments about prisons she's been in always makes me think of this... Now I can't play through that conversation without chuckling. Nice job, Mondo.

Warden Kuril holds an impromptu meeting for the staff at the Pergatory Correctional Facility...

Kuril: Right gentlemen, everyone pay attention... we are receiving a most illustrious guest later today. I want everyone to be prepared. Consider this a level 4 security warning - I'll not be responsible if you get sloppy and end up in the infirmary in Dr Stross's incapable hands. Are we clear?

(All): Aye, Sir!

Kuril: Good. We're taking responsibility as of 17:00 hours station-time for a human biotic. Female...

(several of the guards chuckle evilly)

Kuril: *ahem* Female, goes by the name of "Jack". Has quite the laundry list of crimes under her belt... piracy, theft, reckless endangerment, kidnapping, arson, carriage and supply of illegal weapons, substances, technology and live cargo, extortion, willful theft and/ or destruction of military property, public property and private property, armed robbery, assault, assault with a deadly weapon, assault with biotic-augmentation, over two-hundred and forty counts of permeditated murder...

Guard 1: Erm... you're kidding, right Sir?

Kuril: Do I ever "kid"?

Guard 2: Why are we getting her, Sir?

Kuril: Simple. This is just a transfer from the Nasoc Supermax Prison, no more no less...

Guard 2: Nasoc? Didn't that burn to the ground during a riot?

Kuril: Indeed. Jack was transfered there two months prior to the fire from the 6th Circle Facility on Yarren 3...

Guard 1: My brother in law worked there... it blew up...

Kuril: Yes, that is the official results of the report on 6th Circle's reason for closure...

Guard 1: "Closure?!?!"

Kuril: Please don't air-quote me... it is extremely rude.

Guard 3: Did Jack transfer there too, Sir?

Kuril: Let me see... ah, yes, she transfered there from the Barret Island Penal Colony...

Guard 3: Did that one explode too?

Kuril: Nononono... I assure you Barret Island is still functioning... ah, Jack escaped from there five times, and killed... one two three four... my word... seventeen guards during her stay.

Guard 1: How long was she there for, Sir?

Kuril: Erm... twenty-nine days.

Guard 2: (whispering) Guys, we are totally ****ed...

(brief silence)

(All): Sir, I have some holidays owed! I think I'm coming down with a cold! I think I might be pregnant!

Ya I was just kidding. I'm pretty sure she got it because it means 'the end.'

But I would prefer that a dev does not tell us what all her tattoos mean. I would like it if Jack elaborated on some of them in ME3. But if a dev were to tell us what all the tattoos mean, then we wouldn't be able to discuss what we think they mean Posted Image.

I agree. Some things are best left undefined and left up to the imagination - like the Nameless One's "real" identity, to pick an example from a classic game that I just played again for what must be the tenth time. It really does add quite a bit to the characters and the game as a whole if there are parts that are open to interpretation.

Edit: And it just occurred to me; the Nameless One is covered in tattoos himself. Neat coincidence.

Ah, bringing back memories of Annah, my first sharp-tongued roguish love.  Thinking back, I think that might have been the first in-game "romance" I ever played.  So even back then, I was saying "To hell with the unrealistically hot girl, I want the bad girl."  Of course, it didn't hurt that the unrealistically hot girl killed you if you kissed her. :P

In case anyone cares, four more posts and we tie the Thane thread, making us second among new squadmates.

The tattoo I'm curious about, though, is the one of the diamond on her sternum. You know, the four-pointed one with skeletal fingers around it? What could a diamond over her heart possibly mean?

*pulling up my textures rips*

If you're talking about the one right below her neck on her upper chest, it looks almost like a compass to me.  Skeletal hands around a compass makes me think something like, "In every direction is death," or maybe, "No matter which way I go, I bring death with me," but I'm probably just talking out my backside. :))

On a sidenote, my boredom has led me to rip the game audio from ME2 and go through it to see what I can find (mostly to find lines that can be edited together to sound dirty, but enough about my hobbies ) Just found the audio for Jack's final romance scene and heard what she says if you reject her. One of the most heartbreaking things ever, and I know now I'll never be cruel enough to do that to her in-game.

Do you think she should let her grow out?

I think Jack's good the way she is, it's an attribute of hers.

I'm curious because I only post in this and a few other threads...who is the most popular new squadmate..? Please don't say its Miranda:o ...although I have a feeling it is..

About the diamond tattoo...maybe that is what she thinks her heart is worth. Or maybe, it's symbolism for the diamond in the rough...

Really, I have no idea...maybe someone else can enlighten us to its meaning..?

Did a page count of the current fan-threads for squadmates, ME1 and ME2.

Tali: 2476
Miranda: 670
Kaidan: 511
Ashley: 267
Liara: 180
Garrus: 136
Jack: 56
Thane: 56
Legion: 29
Zaeed: 21
Samara: 20
Mordin: 11
Jacob: 8
Grunt: 5
Morinth: 5
Wrex: 4

So, yeah, maybe we can get above Thane, but that's pretty much as far as we're gonna get. :D

As has been said before, though, we shouldn't try to focus too much on that. The last thing I want is for this thread to be clogged up with "I've got nothing to say, but I'm going to post anyway because we're SO close to beating those other guys" posts. That said, I'm going to try to come up with as much substance as I can to post.

The tat I'm curious about is the number in the back of her head. Right side by her ear. If someone has access to pics, what is it and anyone have any idea what it might mean?

You mean the crosses/X'es?  Well, one of them has a number next to it, so it makes me wonder if it has a connection to prison (I assume at least some of the number tattoos are old prisoner numbers she's had).  Could also be a "kill" tattoo, maybe she shot somebody in the head and the bullet passed through like that.

Oh, and since we're getting into ink discussion again,  here's the tattoo texture rips for those who want a close up look.

You know, I've waffled back and forth on this, because it wasn't outright stated, but the way the tattoos follow some of her scars, I would assume that at least some of them were actually done at the facility.  Which makes her habit of getting tattoos afterward take on a deeper meaning: it's her attempt to cover up what had happened to her by surrounding the marks they had given her (tattoos and scars) with some of her own.  Sort of like reclaiming ownership of her own body, in a way.

That makes a lot of sense, why wouldn't she want to cover those scars up with something. I bet just looking at them brings her back bad memories.

This quotes might shed some light on why she got some of her tats. "Some are for the things I've lost. Those aren't your buisness. They're nobody's buisness."

Maybe she dedicated some tattoo's to that guy that sacrificed himself for her.

Thats a really interesting tattoo. As it'a number (56771) it may be related to Teltin facility. On the other hand the number looks handwritten and the other tattoos on her that may relate to Teltin or to prisons have bold numbers and a more cold mechanical style.
I actually like to think that it may be the first tattoo given to her, signifying the moment she was no longer a person but a thing to be sold to Cerberus. For instance if she was captured by slavers as a child it may be a running number given to all the people they capture.

That's
the first thought that came into my mind. But somehow I feel that this
symbolism is too "romantic" or "naive". With skeletal hands, omega
(=end) and DEATH I don't think that she'd get a "I'm a diamond in the
rought" tattoo.
Or maybe... remember that diamonds are damn hard to break, actually they use them to cut other materials I believe.

Wrex: 4

I remember Wrex had lots of fans back in the ME1 days (and I'm one of them), I don't think that page count is an accurate measure of a character's popularity.

Yeah, I was originally going to total all the fan threads from the past, but some of the newer ones weren't the best at linking to the older ones, so I just went with the most current.

But the thing of it is... I was the one who pointed out that Wrex thread for the guy who does the sticky, and honestly, I just picked it because I really couldn't find a better one.  Wrex fans must not be as verbally demonstrative as they used to be, because there really isn't even a good fan thread for him on the new forums.

I think he's an alright character myself, probably my favorite of the ME1 characters (although I've said in the past that I honestly didn't find the ME1 squadmates all that memorable, so I'm probably damning with faint praise there), but he has the unfortunate handicap of not being a cuddly love interest, so no slavering fanboys/fangirls can drool over sexy pics of him to pump up the thread.

Although, that sure hasn't helped Jacob any. :D

I feel almost certain those are medical - potential biopsy points (imagine a head-clamp affair with some kind of assembly that lines up on the crosses to put needles into the skull... ick) or another set of implant guide-markings. That's just me though.

And I bet Bioware would be in hysterics over how much stuff like this drives us mental :D To paraphrase one of my favorite lines from one of my favorite movies "We gots to know!"

And Alistair had nothing to complain about at the end of the day... oh boo hoo, the object of my bromance got squished by an ogre, boo hoo hoo, I'm stealth-royalty but I'm not man enough to take the responsibility for a kingdom. Cry me a river... he's more like Miranda than Jack.

Plus I'm betting he was lousy in the sack (any guy that thinks he's getting in me with that 'licking lampposts' routine is going to end up wearing his balls for earrings)... give me Zev, Leliana and the crossdressing prostitue at The Pearl anyday. All at once, preferably.

What can I say, the nearest he got to my character was rubbing me the wrong way with his endless whining about one thing or another. He just struck me as spineless and unendearing. Morrigan and him deserve one another in my book... they both acted like the universe revolved around them. Still, I wasn't willing to let him knock Morrigan up just because he was a sap. That'd be like letting a kid launch a missile because pushing buttons is fun. So, off I marched to my unavoidable doom, which I'd seen coming about 15 hours of gameplay beforehand. I don't mind a heroic sacrifice if I have a choice in the damn matter. I felt like I was forced into it at gunpoint because while I'm certainly a ****, I'm a moral ****.

As you can tell, the game pissed me off quite a bit. Tried replaying it once, and gave up after bedding Morrigan. Made me feel quite dirty...
