I don't know, I feel guilty if I don't max Jack's Shockwave out... it feels like it's her power before it could be anyone else's.

If they didn't require that one point in the loyalty power, then you could max out Pull, Shockwave, and the class ability. So incredibly annoying.

Just some lines from the squadmates that we didn't get to hear, from the Firewalker DLC.  Jack included, of course.

"This thing's taking fire...and not well."

I like Zaeed's. I'm sure if the Hammerhead blew up, he'd be the only one to walk out of it alive.

Operative Lawson's Quarters - 11:40 Standard Operational Hours...

Miranda walks into her office; she stifles a yawn, takes a sip of the cup of hot coffee she has in her hand and stops dead in her tracks, somehow managing not to spill any of her drink. On the opposite side of her desk, resting next to her computer, are a pair of heavy, weathered boots - the owner of them is sat in her chair.

Miranda: (irritable) Christ! How did you get in here?

Jack: (amused) Seems Cerberus standard door coding sucks, sweetheart. You could save me a couple of seconds and leave it unlocked next time.

Miranda huffs and strides over to the end of the desk.

Miranda:
And have you rooting through my clothes again? I'll just ask EDI to - are you using my computer?

Jack:
Relax. I'm reading.

Jack holds up a digital reader - its housing is themed; made to resemble worn, pitted metal with flaking red paint. Miranda's irritated expression softens a touch.

Miranda: The Hard Stuff?

Jack: Yeah. I tried talking to our own little hitman the other day, and wondered if all drell try to talk you in f*cking circles. Seems they don't.

Miranda: Well, he does kill for a living... that must change a person. The ones in there are just miners. Where have you got to?

Jack: Uh... Belash'ora has gone whacko and is driving his 'dozer through the krogan mining camp in revenge for the bombing that spaced Zear and getting shot to sh*t while he does it. I'm betting the jellyfish is toast, but he has some balls for a hanar.

Miranda smiles, then perks an eyebrow.

Miranda: How long have you been reading it? That's a good three quarters into the book.

Jack: Well, you've not been here for a couple of hours. You figure it out.

Miranda: You read a lot faster than I expected -

Jack:
Don't tell me, you're just surprised I can read?

Miranda: I was going to say but then again I can't store implant schematics in my head either.

Jack: (sarcastic) Ain't I just full of surprises for a mistake?

Miranda:
Yes, you are actually. You impersonate a human being quite well sometimes, too.

Miranda clears her throat once, twice, then shoves Jack's boots off her desk.

Miranda: I'm guessing you're here for a reason?

Jack: Yeah. Shepard's down in Engineering with Tinman and Fishbowl doing some bridgebuilding... they're helping the rest of the greasemonkeys do something with the drives while the Captain gets them to talk to each other like good little playmates. It's embarassing. Plus I don't really think he wants me under his feet at the moment.

Miranda: I was going to ask... is something wrong with Shepard? He seems to have a lot on his mind. I also noticed you've not been attached to his hip for a few days.

Jack: (suddenly confrontational) What? You want to know if you got a shot at him now or something?

Miranda sighs and looks at the ceiling.

Miranda: No, I was concerned about his welfare. That might mean having sex with him in your vocabulary, but not in mine. Plus if you're hiding in here... something's obviously wrong.

Jack frowns, tosses the book onto Miranda's desk and gets to her feet. She walks across the room and stares out of the window at the stars outside.

Jack: I told him something I maybe shouldn't.

Miranda: And?

Jack: And now he just keeps looking at me like I need special care or something. I've f*cked it up.

Miranda: How exactly?

Jack turns around and smirks at Miranda.

Jack: I told him that when you had pigtails and were riding the pony daddy bought you, I was stuck on a freighter getting ridden by a man probably the same age as your father.

Miranda's face falls and Jack chuckles.

Jack:
See? That's what I've done... f*cked it up.

Miranda:
That's... I -

Jack: Yeah, I get it . You're real sorry. Everyone's real sorry when they find out. This is why I don't talk about this sh*t to people. They either don't care or they get weird. Don't know which is f*cking worse.

Miranda: It's a lot to lay on someone, especially a man you're in a relationship with.

Jack: He isn't that guy though. Doesn't he get it?

Miranda: Yes, he probably does. He's probably wondering if you do though.

Jack: Would I be with him if I didn't?

Miranda: I might not have had many men in my life I've trusted, but I know they're not psychic. They get one idea about you and hold onto it like they're lost at sea, so when you show them a little more of yourself sometimes it surprises them. Scares them. And they just let you go and swim for shore. Or they think you never were what they thought you were and you deceived them somehow.

Jack:
Men aren't that complex. You just tell 'em what to do and when and they do it.

Miranda: Is Shepard that simple?

Jack looks down at her boots for a while.

Jack: No. The f*cker...

Miranda takes a sip of her coffee again and takes a couple of steps closer to Jack.

Miranda: You need to talk to him.

Jack: Yeah, you said that to me last time.

Miranda: I noticed you're still on board too, so I suppose you talked to him?

Jack: Yeah.

Miranda: Well talk to him again! It's not quantum physics, Jack. He's not going to know how to react to something like that unless you show him it's alright. Men spend a lot of their time thinking we're fragile little things that need protecting from the whole universe. You show them that you're not, and they get complacent. Think that's all there is to you. Then you tell them that sometimes you do need defending and it changes that whole idea. Believe me, I know about this... it's cost me, too. Like I said - they sometimes let you go.

Jack returns to looking sullenly at the stars.

Miranda:
I think sometimes their mothers are to blame...

Jack snorts with amusement.

Jack: Yeah. His mother is to blame for this... bastard wants me to meet her, too.

Miranda: Oh God. Remind me to watch the extranet for that.

Jack: I won't give you the satisfaction. I ain't getting within a light year of a guy's mother. That sh*t's just too real.

Miranda: I don't think he's the type to just let you go, though... if he was going to do that he'd have walked away back when you two started circling around each other like suicidal singularities. He's not going to come close though unless you lead him back.

Jack: He's the one that helps me, though. He's just so...

Jack shakes her head and sighs.

Miranda: He can't do that all the time. Even Shepard has his problems...

Jack: I know. He has nightmares, sometimes. Real f*ckin' bad ones.

Miranda: I guess that means you both have baggage. You're both still here, though, aren't you?

Jack: Yeah. Ok, I'll talk to him.

Miranda: Good. Now stop treating my office like a breakroom and bother someone else. Some of us have work to do.

Jack: Yeah, noticed you were lookin' kinda tired... what time do you wake up?

Miranda: 06:00 hours, every morning.

Jack: Wow. Remind me never to get a Cerberus alarm clock.

Miranda:
I could ask EDI to give you a wakeup call with the general emergency alarms.

Jack titters and walks back to Miranda's desk. She picks up the copy of The Hard Stuff.

Jack: Heh. Do that and you die, princess.

Miranda: Ah. There we go. Back to normal. I was beginning to get worried.

Jack heads for the door. She waves the reader around.

Jack:
I'll bring it back when I'm done. I'll go wait for Shepard to be done playing mommy. Hey, thanks for listening, b*tch.

Miranda smirks at Jack. She sits herself back in her usual position behind her desk and raises her mug in a mock-toast.

Miranda: You're quite welcome. Now get the hell out of my office.

Jack chuckles and walks away. The door hisses closed.

Very nice. I liked that one a lot, and the last line by Miranda cracked me up Image IPB.

Interesting story (especially the part about Shepards dreams). I hope Mass Effect 3 will have scenes like that. It'll add a little more depth to all romances.

Mondo, I think that was great.  I like how you show that Jack still cannot believe that there is someone genuine and sincere in the galaxy who she can trust.

One line confuses me, though, when Jack says "He isn't that guy though. Doesn't he get it?".  Maybe I'm just not reading it correctly, in its context.  Is she saying that she acknowledges that Shepard isn't using her, but she's frustrated by the way he treats her as being delicate?

Sorry about the captions, I had them on for whatever reason when I recorded that one.

Actually, you and Mondo have pictures of Jack looking to the Normandy AFTER talking with Shepard.

The one I have shows her looking to the ship before it.

Guess I was really off target, huh?

And great fic, by the way.

The former. Sortof. You have a sexual relationship with someone who has survived sexual violence, you might just find yourself wondering if you're not  exploiting that person too simply by proxy, or walking the same steps, doing the same things, however innocently... dragging them back through it all every time you're together. Jack knows Shep isn't doing that, but can Shep know?

Heavy stuff, I know. This is kinda an epilogue to 'Candy'. There will be one more to finish this off...

Nice fic, Mondo! But... I still can't imagine Miranda and Jack talking to eachother without hostility 9_9

I'm no-where as good as our other resident fan-fic writers, but I've tried to type something nonetheless

Miri notices Jack sitting at her desk

Miri - what the hell are you doing in my room?

Jack - nothing of your f- business

Miri - you're lucky it's Shepard the one in charge, not me, otherwise I'd have spaced you out of the airlock from day one. This kind of behaviour is not tolerated on a Cerberus ship

Jack - What are you going to do now, cheerleader? Run and ask daddy Shepard to tell the bad woman to leave your office? I'm going to sit on this chair as long as it pleases me!

Miri shakes her head, then says on the intercom - Shepard, we have a problem. *That* problem

Shepard - Oh, dammit! Not again...

Hm. I wonder why Mondo and Epantiras have such differing takes on whether or not Jack and Miranda could at all get along. What gives?

Jack & Miranda don't get along.  That's probably why york.^_^

We talked about Jack possibly embellishing her stories earlier.  Have we ever thought that maybe Jack is doing the opposite, and not revealing enough in her stories?

I was thinking about Jack and that cult the she was a part of.  I wonder if it was similar in any way to the Manson Family for example, and if they committed similar heinous acts of violence.  Perhaps even engaging in sadistic rituals involving innocent victims.  It would certainly provide an outlet for Jack, and feed her cravings.  Maybe, temporarily, satisfying her unquenchable lust for the exhilaration that she receives from killing others.  It's the darker side of a multifaceted character.:bandit:

Here's something commissioned from our own Epantiras:

I just got back from seeing "Scott Pilgrim vs. The World".  I didn't much like the comics, but the movie was something the likes of which I've never seen before.  There was a line Scott says to Ramona that sounded like something Shepard would say to Jack.  Pity I can't find the script, though, to point the line out.

Oh dear, I think I've blown an awesome gasket due to overload. Nothing will ever seem impressive for the rest of my life now... the bar has been set too high.

@Mondo: That was great, as usual. Only line that seemed off was

"Jack: Well, you've not been here for a couple of hours."

"You've not been here" jarred me a bit, I'm not sure she'd be so grammatical about it.

Quick question.

Jack playing sports. On a scale of one to ten, how aggressive do you'd think she'd be?

That's a good question.  I guess it depends on how you perceive Jack, and it's probably your intent to point that out.

I think that she'd be fairly aggressive - 7 or 8.

I can't tell how she'd react to losing a team sport.  Would she be angry at her teammates, or dismissive of them?

Depends on how much she wants that win.

If she did, though, she probably wouldn't spare the other team, either. Toss a few biotics here and there, that sort of thing.

I wonder what would happen if she found herself playing football, and got tackled. My best bet is that a world of hurt's coming to the guy that did it.

[Captain's Quarters]

Shepard stood absorbed in thought with a datapad in hand when he heard footsteps briskly coming behind him. A pair of arms encircled him tightly before he could turn around.

"Hey Jack," he smiled as he put the datapad on the desk.

The biotic said nothing and simply tightened her grip.

"Jack?"

Still no response, but her arms began to constrict themselves further on his torso.

Shepard's voice took on a concerned tone, "Jack. What's wro-"

Before he could finish his sentence, he felt himself lifted a few inches off the ground before seeing the world upside down as he was flipped backwards in a german-suplex and bounced off the bed into the wall.

Jack, flipping back onto her feet from a bridge position, couldn't help but cackle to herself as she crooked a finger at Shepard.

"Ready for round 2?"

Shaking the cobwebs from his head, Shepard got up and flexed his neck, grinning ear to ear as he assumed a grappling stance.

----------------------------------------------------------

Short answer... I think Jack is most definitely a full-contact sport person. Rugby, Lacrosse, wrestling.. So on a scale of 1-10 she'd be a 10 for spartan-esque agressiveness.

Oh, I assumed that biotics would be prohibited, as a rule.  With krogan on the teams, certain types of biotics would probably be allowed.

@axl, playful-wrestling Jack is a cute idea.
