Although many of us did see Jack as artistic, I'm not sure I remember any of us pegging her for poetry.

Not to toot my own horn, but I did imply that she at least had an eye for it in Intermezzo, with her remembering the "God is Dead" speech by Nietzsche's Zarathrustra, which is basically an epic poem in itself (from a point of view), and that she at least had a literary bent (although my fave is still Mondo's excellent "biotics tuning" vignette).

Even something as simple as

Roses are red
Violets are blue
Go fvck yourself

is still a poem.     ;)

I also enjoyed implying that Jack is far more intelligent than many people credit her.  Poetry, even bad poetry, requires the ability for at least some honest introspection.

Another thing is that stupid people don't lie well.  Good lies require careful details - and never more careful than perhaps when we lie to ourselves.  Jack, methinks, lies to herself very well indeed.

Was her poem actually rejected? Or were they simply suggesting that her poems should be structured a certain way?

Yes, it was rejected because, to quote Megan McArnon, from Galatic Poetry Monthly:

"Dear Jacqueline Nought,

Thank you for your submission to Galatic Poetry Monthly. We regret that we are are unable to use your submission at this time. Galatic Poetry Monthly generally focusses on metered verse, and you may wish to check the guidelines before submittings again."

That's pretty lame, I thought poetry didn't need guidelines. I wouldn't be surprised if she gave up on poetry after that rejection. It's another situation of her trying to reach out to other people, and ending up getting shot down.

Seems Jack is human, after all. :)

Well we don't when she wrote that, so how old do you think she was?

You tell me! :) She must have written it after her (first) escape (I reckon she didn't get to write much from her imprisonment). So, after 14 probably. But when exactly? Not immediately thereafter, I think (your priorities tend to lie elsewhere when you're fresh on the run). So, I guess a few years later, when she was somewhat settled in (at least had a life with some sort of stability, even if such a structure meant a pattern of crime) and some of the old stuff started to resurface, and she needed to deal with it, one way or the other.

Also, as the editor addressses her by her first name, she can't have been too old, and was likely not an adult at the time. So, I'm guessing between 16 and 20 (max).

All pure speculation, of course.

Hello! I just wanted to direct your attention for a moment to the new introduction to the forum with an outline of the purposes of this forum now that it has been separated from the strategy discussion.

You have discussion of your favorite character going fairly well, but I'd also encourage you guys to present any fan-created works about the series to your other forumites!

I'm sure you guys have alread discussed this, but I would like to hear your thoughts on Jack's name that she entered for her poetry submission.

So, an alias, or maybe it is her real name?

Since "Nought" is another term for zero, I'm guessing she made it up.

That's what I figured, too. I doubt she would be comfortable in revealing her real name.

Well, I think Jacqueline is still her real first name.

^^^

...I'm gonna start calling her 'Jackie' now. Don't ask why; it's something unrelated.

Darn, missed that! :)

Could also be she simply doesn't remember her real sirname, as she was abducted at a very early age. Still think Jacqueline is her real first name, though.

I don't think she even knows her real name.

I don't think she even has a real name. She was taken by Cerberus right after her birth and I don't think Cerberus will bother with such issues.

I'd like to know if we ever meet her family (but honestly I don't think this will ever happen and maybe it is better that way).

Nah, don't think so. Sounded like a postnatal checkup. This could have been hours or days afterward. I'm pretty sure her parents had given her a name.

Can tests for biotic ability be performed on human infants? I thought that Jack was not quite that young when she was stolen.

Yeah that's what I thought. I'm pretty sure she was taken at the age of 4.

You're right. I totally missed the year.

One reason to hate Cerberus even more.

Her being four was detailed in the Cerberus dossier or something? Must have missed it.

Which means Jack is 24 as of ME2, right?

Wow, I think we should pat ourselves on the back for having already decided in previous discussions that Jack's age was somewhere in her early or mid-20's.

Coincidentally, Jack is the same age as Tali if the main ME2 website is too be believed (which really it isn't...).
