One thing I've noticed is that a lot of Jack fans think a Sole Survivor Shep goes well with Jack's romance arc. Why is that?
I think it's because people believe it's more likely that the "romance" would proceed "better" if the two have something in common. Y'know, tragedy, angst, pain and deep miserable, soulcrushing loneliness that they compensate for by using conscienceless violence - as SS Shepard is usually renegade and ruthless as well.
Basically, it all boils down to how much of each other's sh!t they're willing to take - I mean, c'mon - that's the basis of any successful relationship.
Personally, in my opinion, unless it's handled well, it doesn't really work. Two broken killers do not a stable relationship make. Paragon Shep is a Goody-Two-Shoes àsshole. Neutral Shep is a barely tolerable, semi-self-righteous àsshole, and Renegade Shep is an sociopathic àsshole.
Jack is for all intents and purposes a emotionally unstable 15 year old rape victim with abandonment issues and
waaaaaaay too much power, and little self-imposed restraints. We can forgive this because
she has cause. Sole Survivor Shep is also a victim with power, so it seems compatible on the surface.
Paragon Hero Shep can't really relate. He's had family and fame and people with puckers at the ready for half his life. Earthborn Shep can be played like another Jack, because we have no idea what he was in the Reds. A leader? Someone's b!tch? Who knows? It's open.
In my opinion, it is likely impossible for Jack to ever have what could be termed a "stable relationship" with anyone. That requires a level of trust and an emotional depth she lacks, and no one but the Buddha would have patience for; it's a tragedy just waiting for fruition.
Should we really give a fvck?
Not really. It's just a game. Play it, fill in the spaces with any stoopid sh!t you like. You paid your 40/60/80 bucks for the thing, so fill your boots.
Here's a thought:
Can you imagine Jack running around with big tatas? That'd be just
nuts, wouldn't it? I mean...
daaamn.
