Does anyone remember who wrote a quickfic where Jack and Shepard go to the Citadel, and Jack waits for Shepard to finish talking with the Council? Maybe it was Anderson. I can't remember exactly. Anyway, Mondo wrote something like that, but there was another similar quickfic, too. Anyone?

Yes, that's it.  Thanks.

EDIT: You should put that up somewhere on your user page.

Yeah, looking back on it, it's one of the few things I've written that didn't turn into crap suddenly after a second look.

Okay, so, at what rank does Jack's recruitment mission come in, in your list of Most Egregious Abuse of Cutscene Powers in a Video Game?

I'd say #2, behind The Force Unleashed, and the Star Destroyer scene.

I don't know if Jack's recruitment mission is second, but you definitely have the first one right.

The funny thing (to me) is that Jack's cutscene powers never bothered me as much as Thane's. Because Kasumi took all his close quarter combat mojo. Exaggerating a power is one thing, but giving it to someone else entirely?

I just handwave it as Jack storing up a lot of biotic energy while she was stuck in stasis.

They might be able to explain it as a function of the way she's "burning" herself out.  She can probably use Adept-level biotic powers with no harm to herself, but blowing up multiple YMIR Mechs with one punch, or tearing through several-meter-thick steel walls, comes at a cost to her health.

I'm woking on an alternative Jack, check it out :)
Going to colour digitally.

'Subject Six' survived the Pragia incident, and is currently hunting down Jack. Perhaps once she finds her she will realise how similar they have become XD

PS: No there is no nips, I just realised it might look like that, but it's a black and white 'target' bra :P

What do you think an overuse of biotics would do to a biotic user?

If what Kaidan said to Shepard was of any indication, straining your biotic abilities would cause some sort of neural pain, or internal injuries. Tumors. Possibly death.

"She reached for a glass of water instead of pulling it, biotically. She just wanted a drink without getting a nosebleed, you know?"

Hey guys! I'm usually a lurker, but I made a Shepard/Jack drabble I sort of like. Thought I'd throw it up here.

***

Tasale hung low in the sky by the time Shepard and Jack managed to slip out of the back door of the non-descript building in downtown Nos Astra and collapse against the alley wall.

Jack looked at her partner with a sour expression.

"You sure about this guy, Shepard?" She said, "He's sort of a Huge dork."

"Yeah, he is. But he means well," said Shepard, "Besides, if he's finally found something to do that doesn't involve constantly pestering me or getting himself in trouble, I'm all for it, especially if it gets a few more kids off the street before they wind up like us."

"I guess, but he's still a dork," grumbled Jack, "Couldn't you have just, I dunno, mailed him a nice big credit chit?"

Shepard chuckled, "Next time, I promise. But you gotta make these appearances, Jack. It's good to let people see that you care every once in a while. Besides, you and the kids were getting along just fine."

Jack quickly looked away from Shepard, scratching the back of her head, "Don't know what you're talking about. Just kept my mind off that damned ****."

Shepard smiled, "Seriously, I'm proud of you, Jack. It's nice to see you having fun."

Jack turned to look at Shepard again, "I dunno. It's... maybe kids aren't that bad, is all. I don't get so angry when I see them now. So I'd thought I'd try. I dunno. Damn it Shepard, you always gotta make me feel like this, it's annoying. And... nice."

Shepard's grin grew decidedly impish as he leaned toward Jack, but whatever else he might have said or done was quickly pre-empted by the swish of the opening back door.

"HEY YOU GUYS!" Said Conrad, "There you are! Hey, we're about to serve the ice cream, you totally need to be there, and then I promised the kids you'd tell them all about fighting the Collectors and-"

"I got it, Conrad," Shepard said through clenched teeth, not turning toward Conrad in hopes of hiding the twitching vein on his forehead. Jack, on the other hand, made no attempt to hide her displeasure, fixing a scorching, silent glare on the intruder.

"Ok, that's great you guys," Conrad said, A slight stammer creeping into his voice, "so uh- I'll- see you inside?"

As the doors closed, Jack smirked at Shepard, "What did I say? Big. F***ing. Dork."

Shepard settled for a heavy sigh in response.

Ah yes, that's when he tells Shep about the day he killed his turian mentor in Jump Zero - or something like that...

Yeah. The racist, spouting-historically-inaccurate-insults turian mentor Vyrnnus.

The pain was do to an L2 implant and not actual biotics.  L3's and beyond are pain free.  Straining biotics do not lead to turmors, internal injuries or death.

That was referring to side effects caused by the implant itself. And THAT would've caused -- and I quote, from Dr.Chakwas: "Severe mental disability, insanity, crippling physical pain.." Course, she also says that there's a long list of side effects, coming from the L2 implants, but seeing as they were the first three that popped into her head, I'm gonna have to assume that those were the most prominent.

Straining your powers beyond their limit would always come at a cost. Not just in Mass Effect, but in any other media I can remember. And for that reason, I'd assume that Rahna had been getting nosebleeds because of the brutal training session that Vyrnnus had been adminstering to all of the students. According to the history, part of that training was letting them starve, and biotics would need food to continue their use of the ability. So I'd wager that Rahna might've gone a long time without food, while using her biotics, just like the rest of the other kids, and that caused her to get nosebleeds.

So let's add that theory to Jack. She's more powerful, and because of which, I believe she'd be able to use her biotics more effectively, and more often. That being said, she's still a biotic, and using her powers would screw with her, just as much as it would L2 biotics.

Couple that with the fact that she likes to make things go boom with said ability...Yeah.

So I'm inclined to believe that using your powers beyond it's limit -- effectively burning out a LOT of calories, and lowering electrolytes and blood sugar -- and/or using them while starved would have some sort of cost to the wielder. For Jack, you could say whenever she's cold, that theory's nullified, but eh.

And it was never said that Rahna was a L2. Or if she was one of the 'lucky ones', like Kaidan. But that discussion would end quick. That, and it doesn't pertain to Jack. So pretend this bit doesn't exist.

And if that's not strong enough an example, look at Benezia.

The closest we've seen to someone actually straining their abilities was them getting tried out, from over-use. We never do see what happens, if Benezia had gone any further.

I'm not sure if asari obey by the same rules as asari do, regarding biotics.  Humans technically aren't meant to have biotics.  Asari have time on their side (1000+ years), and since one component of biotic ability is practice, they get a lot of that, through having natural biotics, through the mind-joining, and through living so damn long.

If you were in charge of Jack's appearance for ME3, how would you change things, if at all?  Nothing dramatic and possibly out-of-character, such as having all of her tattoos removed.  Describe your ideas.  Draw something, if you'd like to (I can't draw worth a damn).

I can't even begin to imagine Jack not looking like Jack. I know many want to see her grow a head of hair but I much prefer her bald. About the only thing I'd do, is give her a proper suit of battle attire. Of course all that does is give me an image of a bald WH40K Sister of Battle. Damnable tg nerds. I don't even play the damn game.

Anyway, I'm thinking something lighter than what the Sisters wear, something like Liara's Lotsabees outfit only even -less- bulky somehow, Jack seems to appreciate freedom of movement and maximizing range of motion, perhaps a revised Commando armor with Jack's special... touches emblazoned on the shoulders and back. I'm thinking a big **** on the left shoulder and YOU on the right. Or perhaps no shoulderpads at all and a modified version of the images on her back represented on the back of the armor itself.

I don't know if I would. A tanktop wouldn't do much, would it?
..Wait, wait, you mean ME3.
I could probably draw something up, then. Might take a while, though. Going through a re-haul.

As for the biotics comparison, That kind of says even more about over straining for humans. If Matriarch Benezia can tire herself out, that quick ((what the hell was she doing, anyway? Mind control? Cause then there'd be a reason.)) It shouldn't take long for a human to lose their grip.

But then again, I play on the easiest mode. Prefer story over gameplay, according to ME2.

I wouldn't change anything about her cosmetic appearance. As for her clothes, I'd have her wear something more covering, yet something that affords her flexibility and mobility. Her alternate appearance pack outfit was perfect, except for the visor, of course.
