That's a silly wish. Aria is so much better at it.

Is she? I don't see Aria as a pirate at all, really: just a chic who rules Omega. Pirates go out and, well, pirate. :) Aria is more like Administrator Anoleus, but of a much scumier place, is all. Aria has no time to leave her 'office' for anything else than coffee. If people like her go on any form of extended leave, if only for a few days, they are simply replaced by the runner-up in the quest for power.

Jack, otoh, is the real pirate; she's actually done piracy, and would be the ultimate badass pirate when given the Normandy.

Jack doesn't need the Normandy. Give her a shuttle, 150 credits and a blind eye for a month and she would be well on her way to owning the Terminus.

Hmm...Jack as an actual pirate...Naw, I see her more as a mercenary.  Pirating was just another job, not so much a profession.  She was part of a cult too for awhile.  She did what she had to do to survive yeah?

Exactly. I was just sayin', if anyone, Jack makes for a far more plausible pirate than Aria, is all.

Whenever I think of Jack in that cult (which inspired her to keep her head shaved, she tells us), I always think of the Hare Krishna from "Airplane!". Jack getting in to that sort of hijinks makes me laugh.

Anyway, I wonder what kind of cult it was.

lol Holy Cow, that brings back some memories!  :D

Not sure what kind of cult Jack was in.  If I remember right it didn't take her long to figure out their agenda tho. (Whatever it was)  She has a knack of figuring out if she's being conned.  Goes with the territory I suppose.

The whole "Sex and drugs and going to a better place" thing sounds very 1960's... makes me think about something somewhere between the Manson family (granted, not really a "cult" in the strictest sense), the wilderness years Dennis Hopper spent in a commune, and for some odd reason I can never get the Raelians out of my head either when Jack talks about the cult.

Just a quick heads-up to the thread.  The muse woke up a couple of days ago and I'm back to working on Days 5B and 6 concurrently.  Not saying either will be finished tomorrow or even next week, but I'm writing again, which is a marked improvement over the last few months.  I'd love to be finished with TWK by the end of the year (in large part so I can work on the sequel and side-stories) but I've snakebitten myself before with completion estimates.  Anyway, thought I'd say something to alert the folks who are still waiting.

Yes!  I'm glad to hear that you're working on your fanfiction again.  I listed your fanfiction as among my favorites, in the "Your Favorite Fanfiction" thread.

Let me explain. The question was whether Jack could lead the Terminus Systems and the criminal element in the Reaper War. I say she couldn't, Aria has better leadership skills for that element.

Jack is never described as a leader and she shows no level of leadership skills in game. Aria has been the ruler of Omega for centuries, and she already has that position. She is more shrewd, less impulsive, and better at commanding than Jack.

Whether the title of Pirate queen is accurate was never part of my argument.

Pirate Queen sounds nice but agreed that it's not really in Jack's character. Jack is always either a follower (gangs, cults, mercs) or a lone wolf. I think she could enjoy the power that being a "Pirate Queen" would entail, but would dislike the social element. Jack seems to prefer finding belonging in an already established home (something typical of abused children, I would assume) or being detached enough so that social acceptance does not matter.

I'm always so impressed with how most of us have this "Down to Earth" attitude about Jack's character.  There just never seems a need to over glorify her character here.

Umm I've been insulted in this thread a couple of times, Jack fandom is no different than the rest.

I see. And yes, I agree: Jack has virtually no leadership qualities (at least none she displayed in the game; plus, she's simply too volatile, IMHO, to be a good leader). I read 'Pirate Queen' more as 'ultimate pirate,' and not so much as 'pirate leader.' Aria would indeed be a much better leader. Whether she'd be interested in the job is another matter altogether, though.

This is why your friendly moderator does not like it when people discuss the thread on the threads. Claim greatness, others will get offended. Claim insults, others will get offended.

Just out of interest, how does everyone here see the relationship between Jack and Zaeed developing? Passing nods and the occasional sarcastic comment, or anything else?

Jack's probably still gonna be pissed at Zaeed for the one time he went and collected the bounty on her head - and she likely broke out of jail a few days later. They'll probably try to one-up each other in personal anecdotes while cleaning their guns and throwing back shots on Omega.
