Beatnick Jack is only in it for the style. Beatnicks are too hipster. But beatnicks were hipster before hipster was hipster. Which is more hipster, then? Hipster, or hipster before hipster was hipster? *head explodes*

What a little ****.

You'd think that he'd expect people to be angry at him for saying such outrageous things.  Things were getting pretty heated until he decided to silence everyone.

Took a look at those comics in question. They're the visual equivalent of "Jack has AIDS" (an example from the first page of this thread) and even as would-be inflammatory material they were pretty poor. Not sure how anyone can even get riled up over such stuff.

This would be all that Jack would say on the matter:

I think I'm with Adriano on this one. Growing ears on labmice is soooo old-hat when it comes to bioscience... we're controling computers with lab-grown rat neurons now. Keep up with the times, please.

As for the "I'm angry because I'm not the pretty one"... capping it off with Liara fanboi-ism just points out what is really going on here. It's fanboy hardon, no more, no less. I might have defended it if it'd been handled a bit smarter. Not worth the fuss.

I'm more bothered by him just censoring all the comments.

Jeez man, grow some balls!

Once I've been *flamed* by someone who didn't like a pardy comic I did about half-orcs in Neverwinter Nigths 2, but instead of blocking that person I tried to explain her that it was a *pardoy* and that I didn't have anything against half-orcs. Being polite, I solved the situation and everyone was happy.

Censoring *polite* comments definitely shows that the guy is not brave enough to face the consequences of his actions.

And that's the last thing I'll say on the matter, as I think that shameful piece of sh- ehm, *art* should fall into oblivion.

Oh, and awesome pic, Axl99!!!

Blah, one of my favourite DeviantArt artists has uploaded not one, but THREE comics against Jack. And they're not even funny. I'm unwatching him before I enter rage mode and start being unpolite.

I am quite miffed about this.  (And no, they aren't even funny.)  I posted a comment on this one saying that I think Jack is the most beautiful woman in ME2 and why I thought his cartoon and descriptions were offensive.  A couple of days pass and various people post agreeing with me.  Then he hides all comments and blocks me from posting on his profile!  I wasn't rude; I just stated my criticism clearly.  Rather than reply, as one should do if one feels one can defend one's opinion, he just censors and silences everyone.

I understand that, since Jack is a fictional character, it's not sensible to get worked up about her.  But, to my mind, the artist was commenting as much about Jack as about women in general, and how we should all fit into a certain mould to satisfy men.  One of the things I love about Jack is how refreshing she is in her attitude and how she isn't particularly concerned about pleasing anyone else or how others see her.  She is not ashamed to be herself.  While I personally don't cover myself with tattoos or swear like a sailor, I think her assertiveness is a positive quality in many ways - and I mean the real assertiveness, not the stuff that's just covering up her scars and her brokenness.  (I don't think it's all fake, not by any means.)  There are a lot of women who could use some of that confidence, rather than having it knocked out of them as "unfeminine."

I was just dropping by the give a friendly bump from the Ashley thread but I also must say:
Quote for truth.

While I prefer Ashley ultimatley, I have always liked Jack for the reasons you listed and frankly when I read some of the comments that are negative about her I actually get kind of mad. I mean if you want examples of blatant misogeny you need look no further then the comments made about Jack.
I mean the main reasons people get mad about her are usually because:
A: She isn't trying to look attractive in the conventional sense (ergo she is 'ugly')
B: She talks back and is defensive and self assured (ergo she's a 'b*tch')
C: She is very open and comfortable with her sexuality (Ergo she's a **** dripping with STDS)

So basically whenever I read those comments or see those basic images pop up in fan made web comics, I always just see this really ugly undercurrent beneath it all.
They seem to be saying three things about themselves and how they view the world...
Number on is that a woman needs to be attractive by convientional standards set by men otherwise she is worthless and ugly.
Number two is that if a woman is strong willed, aggressive and talks back to people then she is a 'b*tch' and should be booed and maligned for it.
And finally: A woman is to be ashamed of and highly defensive of, her sexuality, and any openness to the concept or freedom to do as she wants sexually means she is to be considered a '****'. (Nevermind that we celebrate Male Shepard for his mighty sexual exploits, Jack is a woman and therefore not granted the same privellage.)

Man, seriously, to hell with that. That just sounds like the spirited writing of a nineteenth century purist who still believes that men are the dominant gender and that women should 'learn their place' and it's made especially obvious when I hear people call Jack's romance an example of 'turning hoes into housewives' and then cheer about the idea to themselves.
(I actually like to think it was a little more meaningful then that)

I know I'm probably overreacting a bit but it still does anger me so much. Seriously, between this and the way people overreact with blind, unreasoning hatred towards Ashley's religious beliefs, once again I find myself noticing that the haters reveal far more awful things about themselves then the characters they hate on...

.... hmmmm, that didn't end on a cheery note, and this was meant to be a friendly bump in respect for the character who would be my second favorite love interest for a male Shepard. So let's just see if I have something to lighten the mood...

Yeah, I imagine that could help. Seriously I know I'm an Ash fan but still, that Jack is one gorgeous lady.

Jack's Prisoner 24601 in the "WARNING" billboard of her in Illium, too, if you look closely during the car-chase scene in the Shadow Broker DLC.

Axl, I was looking at the picture you created, and Jack's freckles are not fair.  They adorable.  They totally clash with the harshness of the rest of her appearance.  That's why they're great.

Jack will somehow reverse the situation and in the end Shepard will find himself in a dress in the kitchen.

This is why I love her closeups ingame. Now that you mention freckles, I immediately think of Jimmy Hopkins from Rockstar's Bully. He is totally Jack if she ever had a somewhat normal childhood.

You mean before or after she forces Miranda to clean up the mess Shepard's body just made.

I wonder what kind of person Jack would be with food-fussy? I doubt it myseklf, probably a 'grabs what's there' sort of person.

Jack couldn't afford to be food-fussy.  Cerberus probably only fed her gruel.  As a criminal, she would either have no money, and have to eat whatever she could scrounge up, or she would have money, but would have to spend it in ways to keep a low-profile.  I highly doubt Jack's ever been exposed to fancy food.  She certainly hasn't been exposed to fancy formal banquets.

Jack was nominated for Most Compelling Character in The Inside Gaming Awards. We can't vote to get her the award, but on the 24th we can vote in the The Inside Gaming Gamer's Choice Awards. Check it out:

(Inside Gaming is a Machinima show on Machinima.com and Youtube.)

With Jack while I'm sure she can grab whatever, ultimately she'll want something to keep her in top form. Living life on her own, I can see her putting together something on the go.

As for fancy food, I imagine her dining and dashing her way through high end kitchens in the middle of a chase. Chewing up and spitting out the dishes she hasn't developed a taste for. Y'know.
