I liked that. It's a little schmaltzy but well-written, emotional, and revealing of Jack. I don't think it'll ever stop being odd to read someone writing Jack saying the "love" word, though.
It was either, "I love you," or, "thank you," for the end line in the first one. And I settled for, "I love you," because the other option came across a little callous. But, yeah. It's practically fluff, which is not really my forte... Glad you liked it, though.
I find I tend to settle for most things with Jack in it, as long as she's not portrayed as a childish bully or clingy love-me-nao person.
There's too much of both of those, and an awful lot of stories that are obvious attempts at degrading her as a character. It's infuriating.

Since we're talking about potential hairstyles for Jack 5 and 7 the ones I would personally love to see if she got a new hairdo (which once again for the record: I don't mind if she doesn't).

I'd rather she didn't have anything even remotely like a mohawk. I'd have to get rid of mine. :|

Did you intend to make Jack seem so feral and fragile, though? Re-reading it, I noticed a bit of that.

Feral, not so much. I was more aiming for unhinged. Or unstable. In the first chapter, she's slipping out of a nightmare. In the second, she's slipping into one. By physically fighting it off, she sort of shakes all the horror out of her body.
I did want to emphasise a lot on her fragility, though. Which is why it might come across a little exaggerated.

She doesn't have story-critical ties to different groups like Tali to the Migrant Fleet or Mordin to the Salarian STG, but I assume kicking reaper ass is going to be a requirement. A requirement which Jack fills nicelyyorkj86 wrote...
Well, now that we have an idea of the plot of ME3, how will Jack factor in to this? It's clear that we'll be asking people for help to get the destroy the Reapers as they attack Earth. We've talked before about what role Jack would play in such a scenario (it was pretty predictable, after all). Apart from tagging along, I don't really see what significant role Jack could play in ME3.
Having no ties to outside groups could be considered a good thing, if we really want to get our hopes up for a Jack return (and I do!). Conceivably, Tali should really go help to coordinate the fleet, Mordin the same for the STG, Wrex/Grunt for the Krogan... all Jack has to do is keep chilling with Shepard. She doesn't have anywhere else to be.

At least now we know WHY Earth was never visitable in Mass Effect 1 or 2.

I do wonder if Jack had any ties to gangs on Earth. Never hurts to tap into an underground info network well beyond the Shadow Broker's reach.
I wonder if she's even been to Earth.

It got me thinking about the Murtock guy, again. I think I've got an entirely different outlook, on him.
While most people might just picture him outright as a pirate, I always pictured that the guy was somewhat of a heavy gambler, with little to no luck. Charming, but unfaithful. Willing to do whatever he has to, so that he gets what he wants.
He's wealthy enough, but not enough to him. He has friends who knows people, who in turn, know more people. But he never takes advantage of it. Like he's trying to prove he's worth a damn by making it on his own.
Always scheming, and deceiving. Coming up with ways to trick people into showering him with creds. But they never work, and he never reaches square two. Out of all the criminals, he's at the lowest level. The bottom of the barrel.
Small time criminal, not worth the time to confront, arrest or kill. That is, until he meets Jack.
Actually came up with a quick sketch to depict the guy, since I was too tired and/or lazy to do a full picture. But whenever I wake up, I'm gonna try to draw Murtock, Jack, and the life I believe they were in.
Totally random, but I had to get that out.

Thought it provided a bit of an explanation why the misanthropic Jack would put up with partnering with somebody long enough for feelings to develop, since she would owe him for keeping her out of Cerberus's clutches. In any case, here's hoping that maybe some of the remaining DLC before ME3 digs more into character backstories, and we can find out what really happened.

Heh, that's the thing about a blank slate character like Murtock; each player probably has their own idea of the backstory and history of him and Jack. A while back, I remember I was thinking of writing a fanfic about Jack's past, before my inevitable laziness took over. I had this scenario in mind that Murtock was a member of a small band of pirates, who recruited Jack for their crew. Then the captain found out about the large bounty on Jack's head and was going to turn her in to Cerberus for the reward. Everybody on the crew was on board with this except Murtock, who tipped off Jack, and the two of them slaughtered everybody else on the ship and took it for themselves, raising hell in the Terminus systems together until the ill-fated batarian job.

Maybe she just found him attractive in one or many ways? How, exactly, is just another layer of this "blank slate"-ness you mentioned. After all, as we've seen, Jack's toughness doesn't preclude attraction.
