I personaly think that something like doing another round of the loyalty missions (while it would be great to learn more about the characters) is just wrong when a gigantic fleet of reapers is ravaging the galaxy.
However I could see a mission like saving a loved one of a squaddie from a planet under attack while also fighting the reapers effectively on that planet. Like Jacobs son, or Thanes son.

I meant meeting those characters during other missions, not specifically looking for them: for example, when we meet Ashley/Kaidan on Horizon, Shepard is there because of the plot, not because he/she's looking for them specifically. So, let's say Shepard's trying to save the *insert Hanar planet name* and wow, there's Kolyat ****ing because we let his father die - or saying hello to his dad who's going to die before the end of Mass Effect 3 anyway...

Maybe
how the squad gets recrited or whatever is the inverse of ME2. What if
they all start out loyal and the events in a more unified plot could
prove to break the loyalty? What if it's unavoidable this time and you
can't Paragon or Renegade out of it? Someone's getting deloyaled and
STAYING deloyaled?

Well, that sounds interesting! But I doubt Bioware will choose to do that: for example, in Dragon Age one of the Warden's choices could have two characters go mad with him/her and attack. This restricted the player's freedom, so they included the "rivalry" path in Dragon Age 2, which means the party members will disagree but never turn on Hawke.

That's a really good idea, GeneralSlotts.  Jack's mother turning out to be a prominent anti-Alliance, anti-biotics-experiments advocate, and then finding out that her daughter is a very powerful biotic.  Lots of potential for drama there.

EDIT: There could even be a verbal conflict between Jack and her mother.  I'd like to see Shepard try to find a way to resolve that one.

This sums up the point I was trying to make quite nicely, thank you.

I agree with Epantiras in that I don't want another round of loyalty missions either, but I don't want the Reaper invasion to be used as an excuse to avoid any sort of meaningful character development. Personally I like Garrus, not a huge fan though, but its sad/funny that the most memorable thing he says is "oh I'm sorry Shepard love to chat, but I got these calibrations to do." I rather Jack disappear a la ash/kaidan, than get the Garrus treatment.

I'd like to see them explain Jack disappearing, without pulling another Horizon on us.  No more "WAT" moments!  If she's arguably more comfortable with herself and her surroundings aboard the Normandy, I foresee only another "WAT" moment.

Axl and Epantiras, if I may impose, I believe that both of you should take a look at Page 28 of the Mass Effect Activity Book.  It's a coloring book, too!  Here's a link to the page that describes the link, if you don't trust the link.  Here's a link to the Mass Effect Activity Book's thread.

Sweet Lord of Murder with sugar on top! There are Mass Effect fans who are definitely more obsessed than me ;-)
That coloring book is cool, it starts nice like an actualy book for children but gets more weird towards the end. And by saying "weird" I mean less child-friendly, in a good way! I lol'd when the game asks you to circle the food that Tali can eat (none of them btw) warning you that if you make a mistake, she'll die!

I'll be honest. I picked Jack right away, and always feel bad on other playthroughs not picking her. I am on and off with a girl who has similar facial features, and that's all I saw. Forget the tattoos and shaved head.... she's flat out better looking than anyone. If she isn't around for ME3, I will be mad =/

Ashley was my girl for ME1, but I didn't feel terrible like I would about Jack not being in the game. In fact, I didn't even find Liara attractive until LOTSB, so Ashley was always my go to girl.

I think lots of people prefer Tali or Liara because they act more like your typical girl, or what a guy would want a girl to be like towards them. But maybe that's where I'm different. I like a challenge, and Ashley was way more of a challenge than Liara, and Jack sure was way more of a challenge than anyone so far.

I don't like the asari in general. Don't know why, something about them always puts me on edge, which is a 'shame' since they're supposed to be Ms. Fanservice incarnate.

I know what you mean.  I think it's all in how they are, not their looks.  I mean everyone has a fit body, so that obviously isn't a dealbreaker, but I'll take the humans they have in the game... Jack, Ashley, even Parasini haha

Aria has an attractive face, but man, some of those mercs and cops were pretty ugly.   I hope there are more like the Spectre in LOTSB with her shade of blue.  It was looking pretty awesome, but then Shep had to show her how a real Spectre battles

And give the council the ammunition they need to try and get rid of him/her. Yaaaay. Still, that could be funny for a White Knight Shepard (from Jack's pov). "What's it like being a naughty boy?" and everything.

I think its inevitable that there will be "WAT" moments.

If we look at how ME1 characters were handled, we have

Wrex - I think everyone can agree they liked how he was handled, sending him to Tuchanka seemed like an easy decision though
Ash/Kaidan - No need to say anything here
Garrus - I was disappointed with him, but if Jack ever stole his just like old times line, I would die of laughter
Tali - I was less disappointed in her, I think because you can recruit her late, she isn't forced on you from the start so the fact that she has just two convo's not included romance wasn't such a big deal
Liara - No one liked how she has handled originally, but the Shadow Broker DLC helped, it still doesn't make sense how she went from being an archeologist to an influential information trader in just two years

IMO two out of six ME1 characters were handled well (Wrex, Liara), and now ME2 adds an additional twelve. On a positive note I do think that if Jack is relegated to a cameo role in ME3, the writers have some options to make it an enjoyable one, without taking up to many resources.

Well lets hope Jack isnt relegated to Cameo, because frankly what the hell would she be remotely doing that would in any way benefit the galaxy? Unlike say Wrex, but more like Garrus and Tali, it makes more sense for her to stick around at the end.

On another note, I want that coloring book for Christmas. Son thats just badass.

If ME2 on the PS3 will use the ME3 engine, could that mean that Jack's tattoos might be sharper in the PS3 version? Maybe Garrus will get some high-res pants, too. Poor Garrus.

Probably yes :)
ME2 graphics looked already awesome in my eyes, I wonder how ME3 will look like then.

EDIT:

Okay, I'm going to trespass into Dragon Age 2 territory, so read at your own risk...

This is the bio of a new character who has been revealed:

"Once slave to a Tevinter magister, Fenris was altered: lyrium was burned
into his flesh, its magic both stripping his memory as well as changing
him forever. He became a living weapon, and eventually used his power
to escape his chains. Now he finds himself in a strange land with no
friends—and a former master that refuses to let him be."

Uhm, a "living weapon" who escaped his chains, why does it sound familiar? :innocent:

::RESPONSE TO EPANTIRAS' DAII COMMENTARY, READ AT OWN RISK::

I'm just gonna call him "Jacques" from now on. He even has body mods that one could reasonably mistake for tattoos. Hey, if they wrote him well, I'm on board.

Lots of people would choose to kill of Jack, in the "Which 3 Mass Effect 2 Party Members Would You Kill Off?" thread.  Mission accomplished, I guess?   All in all, not a big surprise.

I actually made another thread about that, I took a tally of the people in that thread and Jack got that second most amount of votes:?, after Jacob.

Jack is either love her or hate her; she doesn't leave much room for a middle ground. So, just because a lot of people dislike her enough to put her in their bottom 3 and want to kill her off, doesn't mean a whole bunch more don't like her enough to put her in their top 3.

i.e. say 50% of people love Garrus, 40% are indifferent, and 10% hate him. Then, 50% of people love Jack, 50% hate her. She'd get 5x as many KILL HER!! votes as Garrus, even though just as many people like her. Made up unrealistic numbers, just saying there's never one side to a story (or statistic).

DO NOT INGEST!

Sorry, I had to write that ;-)
I'm not very surprised about people's extreme reactions to Jack - if I'm not mistaken, the devs themselves had foreseen that. I really look forward seeing this Jacques - I mean Fenris dude, if it's true that they're recycling the Jack formulae... but with cute anime white hair. All girls are sqeeing about him right now - and I'm among them :innocent:

Anyway, I can see Bioware looking to fan feedback and trying to improve a character's writing instead of simply killing him/her off. I totally hated Liara and I wished I could have Virmired her instead of Kaidan, but after Lotsb she's one of my favourite characters.

I think Jack would have gone over better if she didn't suffer so badly from 'cutscene awesome'. Coupled with her tougher than everyone attitude, when you get her out on the playing field and she sucks worse than Jacob... is it so unsurprising she ranks somewhere near the bottom without a lot of through traffic?

I wanted so much to like her the first time I played the game, but I went in with expectations of her to be Molly from Neuromancer or Ace from Dr. Who kinds of awesome. She nearly pulled it off, right up till I got to actually use her in the field.

If BW just thought ahead enough to give her a decent vs protection or protection removal skill, instead of padding Miranda's bra even further with all the best companion powers to booty.

I certainly don't count warp ammo. As nice as that is, its an unlockable bonus power you don't get till more than half way into the damn game, and as an interesting character power, its really not.
