Use them under the follow conditions, Pacifien.

- Playing as an Engineer or Adept
- Never switch unless required
- Play on Insanity

That is sort of asking the game to hurt you. :P

Hello Jack thread!

I've never posted here but I love Jack. There is so much potential for her character. I'd go into all the many things I love about her but it's late and I'm lazy. I've been rping her on twitter for awhile now and it's just fun to write for her. She's very complex. I was sad that my male and female Shepards couldn't be closer with her. My main Shepard is Ash loyal all the way, but I think I need to make a single Shep just to have me a Jack romance. She rules.

Heya, Badpie. :)

There is an added bit of nuance to Jack's story when you romance her, but I have to say I never have, and I managed to like her character just fine.

Anyway, I was writing an email to Brian Kindregan--he's the bloke that wrote Jack and Samara--just to tell him "hey, nice job," when I realized I couldn't really describe to him why I like Jack. Her life is not like mine. Her attitude toward life is only like mine in that we're both cynical, but her cynicism is a bit more lethal than mine. So I couldn't quite figure out what it was about Jack's character that keeps me around for 500 pages on a thread dedicated to her.

I figured it was just because she's a hard person to get to know and getting to know her is her appeal. You get the basics of everything she wants you to know at a glance. Makes me wonder if she resents Shepard trying to push past that, all the while appreciating the experience of having someone know parts of her that she's always been afraid to share. Because in that respect, I am like Jack.

.... Also, I have a vague memory of trying to use Jack and Grunt often during my Engineer playthrough. But that playthrough was all kinds of awful for me. I don't make a very good Engineer.

I'm quite sure she hates Shepard for trying to look past her walls and NOT behaving like every other man she has met i.e. not trying to use/abuse her. However, if she wasn't interested in sharing her story with him, she would have just said "stop pissing around. Get the f*ck out."

Oh wait, that's exactly what she tells FemShep.

Joking aside, I hate when people I barely know ask too many personal questions to me. I tend to get rude - but, at the same time, talking about my problems makes me feel better. So yes, this is definitely one of the reasons why I'm a Jack fan :wizard:

Yeah, you and me both. I love Ashley, of course, but Jack is certainly up there. She's a close second. I suspect I will make at least ONE Shepard romance Jack, I just have so much difficulty turning her down.

So yeah, hey Jack thread. How's it hanging?:D

Looking back at ME1, Ashley's an underrated character, I think. Probably my third favourite, behind Jack and Samara.

Here's hoping that Bioware does something interesting, beyond a line or two of dialogue, for those conflicts that everyone's looking forward to (VS vs. Tali/Miranda/Jack/Jacob/Thane/Garrus, minus Liara since I suppose she already addressed things).

Either way, anyone have particular expectations for this stuff? In terms of Jack's reactions to specific characters, that is.

I'm not really interested in romance conflicts, since my canon Shep was single in ME1 and now is dating a lizard man with an... expiry date (bad pun is bad).

I sense Jack will call Ash an "Alliance dog" while Ash will call Jack something like "Cerberus freak". That will be a quite amusing scene to watch on Youtube, since they both have strong personalities. Also, I'm an Ash fan and I hope Bioware will write her in the right way (if I remember correctly, the guy who wrote her and Thane has left the Company).

^Wonder what will happen between Liara and Jack?

Liara: Tattoo freak!

Jack: Blue wh*re!

And then we have most epic biotic battle EVER!

Also I dumped Jack with my canon Shep for Tali.

Do you think it will affect ME3 in any way?

Why should it? All you've done is proven you're like every other man Jack's ever encountered. She'll send you an email.

Awesome :D

anyway, if I remember correctly, Liara aknowledges if you dumped her in ME1 and chose Kaidan or Ash instead, so I assume there will be something like that in ME3. No more than few words, though.

I've always thought Ash and Jack would get along on some level.  They would be blunt to each other but I think their similar in their mouthy, direct attitude.  They both say what they mean and don't hold back.  I feel like eventually they would get to a point of mutual positive indifference to each other at least.  I feel like Ash would have the same suspicious dislike of Miranda too.  She and Jack could bond over it!

Though I suppose none of that would happen if you dumped Ash for Jack in the first place.

Jack reminds me of an abused pit bull.  Pit bulls are loyal animals and that makes them vulnerable, which it what makes them the most abused type of pet - people use them for fights, breed them to be aggressive.  In short the people around them turn them into broken, terribly unhappy a-holes.  But so many of them, after they get pulled out of their bad situations just end up these big mushies who love to hug.  Jack is kind of like that in a way.  She's got a fortress of defenses that seem impenetrable because of her horrible past, but once she lets you in it's pretty special.

Am I the only one who wants them to pull a Jade Empire with the romance conflicts? Like they're not really catty towards each other, they're just really catty towards you? It'd make sense, really, as Shepard's saved the universe twice and THIS is the thing s/he's refusing to s--t or get off the pot about.

As confrontational as Jack is, I don't think she'd get all up in Ashley/Liara's face when Shepard's the one acting like a complete tool (from her point of view, of course). I'm hoping for verbal fireworks, sure, but I want them directed at Shepard, not the other LI.

Yes!  Finally.  Players wanting the love-interests to yell at each other, instead of Shepard, really just want to see cheap, gratuitous, nearly-masturbatory cat-fights (to be blunt).  Shepard's not so damn special.  The love-interests should get mad at Shepard, not each other.

It's all very Jerry Springer to have a cat fat, especially with mature women. Even Jack I don't think would be all violent. haha. If anyone got all psycho and territorial over Shepard it would be Kelly.

Kelly frightens my Sheps.  Every time I start a new game in ME2, I tell Kelly up-front (and in my scariest Commander Shepard voice) that we're keeping things professional.  All my fish can die, I don't care.

Which actually leads me to a Jack-related question.  Does anyone think that we're supposed to find Jack somewhat 'frightening?'

I mean, she's a powerful biotic, she's relatively unstable (debatable), and she's more than willing to resort to violence if she feels threatened.  Not to subvert Badpie's earlier pit bull analogy, but in some respects Jack does bring to mind a wild animal/rabid dog/other fierce creature analogy.  And most people find unpredictable 'animals' more frightening than guns...

I've never been scared of Jack, but Grunt actually struck me as falling along the above lines, and he terrified me good for a while there.

Generally I feel like anyone who is a combination of a) emotionally or mentally unstable and B) can kill you with a thought should be pretty frightening.

I never found Jack to be frightening, more like someone I could help... Grunt tho, yeah he is a bit scary, but then again, he's a Krogan. They are inherently scary. Even Psychopaths can be in control of themselves. Sometimes Krogans can't, with the blood rage and all.

Jack IS frightening, and Shepard is not very comfortable when she's around - at least at the beginning: remember during the "let's be pirates" convo, she jumps on the table but Shepard raises his/her arm as if he/she thought Jack was going to attack. But, at the same time, I think it's the moment you realize she's not THAT dangerouns and out of control as you thought.

I like the complaints about that moment, from people who play super-badass Shepards.  "'My Shepard wouldn't flinch!  He's a toughguy!  Jack's just a woman!  WAAAAAH!'"

Anyway, as you said, at that moment, you realize that Jack also has a playful side to her, which is a significant reveal.

Thinking back it would be nice if we saw more of that playful side. One other time we ever get to see it is when she goes "You're weird Shepard, that kinda gets me off."

Uh wait? The "pirate talk" is one of the first convo I believe, even before MaleShep is offered the renegade sex.

Yes, that's correct. It's in the first conversation with Jack in her quarters (I just did this part in my second play-through moments ago so I know).
