Ok I'm going to start Edmund's run just to be with Jack shortly, and I have a question...

How many of you can see Shep and Jack's relationship beyond ME3? Marriage?

The way I RP Ed, he'll be with her in ME2, but he's that adorkable, he'd want to actually marry Jack, and propose..... knowing the hazard to his health and all...

Would any Shep want to do that?

I doubt it.  If Shepard could convince her, the marriage would probably be secular, done at a town hall, somewhere, and it would be followed up with drinking, some drunk stumbling, and perhaps some screwing.

That's what I'm thinking too.

Only if Wrex and Grunt celebrate it. There's no other way!

Marriage...

I'll plead Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell there; there's absolutely no reason whatsoever to get hitched to stay with someone for the long haul, have kids, or do any of the other things society expects of married folk.

In all seriousness, considering Jack's constantly-adrift lifestyle and Shepard's long military career, there's a chance both of them would never really entertain the idea of marriage for a long time - at least until maybe Shep retired for good and Jack was sure that what they had was stable enough. They both understand the transitory nature of life all too well, so I can see them both being rather cynical or ambivalent about it.

Besides, going back to my last musings on the 22nd century, marriage might be considered terribly blase, old-hat or for inter-species relationships completely inappropriate. It could well have been replaced by bonding agreements that work like prenups, procreation contracts more akin to something a salarian would sign up to, state shotgun-weddings (and attendant chemical sterilisation) for breaking birth regulations... endless possibilities for making saying "I do" very different. I can see Shep and Jack just silently, unceremoniously knowing what they were if such a time came. Nothing would change, maybe nothing would be said, they'd just keep on going the way they were.

Though considering that they have friends and coleagues, they might be the ones to feist some kind of civil ceremony on them just to "make it official" and be an excuse for a party... I now have amusing visions of Shep getting dragged on the krogan equivalent of a stag-do (probably the invasion of a small country crossed with a pub crawl) and Jack and Miranda starting an all-out biotic showdown in a bridal shop over the cheerleader's attempts to turn Jack into a dressup doll (while Tali rolls her eyes and drinks all the complementary champagne).

I cannot imagine Jack and Shep as a married couple, that wouldn't work IMO. I see them more in a off/on relationship. They'd break up from time to time and then the emotional connection would bring them back together. I imagine Jack will get afraid when things will be too good so she'll shut down and leave.

Yes, I can definitely see that coming as well :)

@zewuok: Oh man, I hated Pulp Fiction but I love that couple. That is totally the Shepard/Jack ending I want for ME3! Who cares if the Shepard that romanced Jack is mostly paragon? People can change, change into awesome burglarizing Bonnie and Clyde types.

I believe it'd be a touchy subject. I don't know. It really depends on how long the relationship lasted. If were just a few weeks, or days, Jack would probably think he was joking. Hell, Shepard would have probably thought it, too.

But if it's gone on for longer -- you'll have to think of the length, I have yet to sleep -- And Shepard used the word marriage towards Jack, if she saw an engagement ring, or if he so much as taken a knee in front of her, she'd probably freak, and immediately antagonize him for doing it. Depends on how much she really loved the guy.

Even if that wouldn't happen, I don't see her saying yes, on the very second he proposes to her. I believe the antagonizing bit would've just been a way to stall the answer. Let her think about it, for a couple of days, and see if she could really condone going through that experience.

I think that, like many other things, would be something to decide after the Reapers have been beaten.

I don't think a formal on his knee proposal would work too well. I think it would be more of an intentional off-handed remark one day by Shepard that, you know Jack, if you ever wanted to get married, we could do that. She'd punch him, but a few months later out of nowhere would ask "so when are we finally gonna tie the f**n knot you loser?"

Completely random thought: How would Jack's driving be, like with taxi on illium or something?

Probably as bad as Shepards. Actually, better-Shepard strikes me as someone who drives like a lunatic (does he/she even have a civillian driving liscence? I imagine the MAKO is very different to a certain taxi.) I imagine Jack would be able to drive well enough to avoid getting the police's attention since she's TWOC'ing/stealing.

I can see any long term relationship with Jack being more like having adopted a stray cat.  The cat will eventually love you - and only you, as cats are very particular - as a rule - but of course, that love is utterly on its own terms.

But, it yet won't stop the cat from coming and going as it pleases, and sometimes you wonder if it's coming back at all.  Eventually the cat returns, pretty much with the attitude as if it never left, with a chunk out of its ear, and no explanations.

Even if the cat has been with you for years, and someone asks, "Is that your cat?", you can only ever answer, truthfully - "Yeah... kinda, I guess."

Patience is the key, for anything long term.  Without it, all the love in the world won't mean squat.

EDIT:  My rather odd love of commas.

I love the way you've described it! And I agree that it would be the kind of relationship I'd expect between Jack and Shepard.

If while yes Jack talks about going pirate all thou I am more inclined to think that with Shep she could just as easily turn pirate hunter hunting down pirates and slavers, lots of action treasure and your helping people and get to be bad ass all at the same time.

But that's just me.

This may be the most unexpectedly adorable piece of fanart I have ever seen.  We are lucky to have you on our side, Epantiras.  ^_^

(Seriously.  Can you imagine what our lives fandom would be like if she hated Jack?)
