My Shepard who romanced Jack, he helped Gianna Parasini, and Shiala. In retrospect, I realize how awkward and embarrassing it must have been for him, to have Jack with him at Nos Astra, when first arriving here. He's trying to prove to Jack that he's not a user, and here he has random women and green asari kissing him, and flirting with him. "Guys, you're not helping."
It made be chuckle, picturing Shep trying to explain to Jack how his relationship with these "friends" is strictly platonic.

Could cut the other way-Jack doesn't strike me as someone who really thinks very highly of herself. Seeing all these 'acceptable' women (including Ms. Perfect the cheerleader) drooling over him could make her feel insecure about the idea like Tali.yorkj86 wrote...

One good deed later...
Shiala: Perhaps when all this is over, and you're not doing whatever it is you do...
Jack eyes up the emerald asari for all of two seconds.
Jack: (brusque) Sure. If you want, Shepard. Bring her back one night.
Shep: Uh, Jack?
Jack: Hey, she's better looking than most of the fangirls you have tucked away in every frigging port we go by. She's asari, so she'll be game for everything the Cheerleader isn't and Fishbowl is too fwagile for...
Tali: (offended) Hey! I'm standing right here!
Jack: We've got your little toybox back on the ship... if you're not man enough for her, I'm sure I can make her eyes roll back in her head...
Shep: Jack - this... Shiala, she's not being serious, she's -
Jack pantomimes something enormous in the air in front of her.
Jack: And we've got that thing with the - have you fixed the buckles on it yet?
Jack leans in close to the side of Shiala's head and lowers her voice to a sensual growl.
Jack: Besides, he'll fall asleep sooner or later. Always does. Then when it's just you and me, we can -
Shiala: (clearly shaken) Shepard! I - I really must be going! Until we, uh, goodbye!
Jack: Bye! See you later, babe! That's it... keep on running...
Shiala weaves off through the crowds like a frightened deer. Shepard puts his hands on his hips and scowls at Jack. Jack bites her bottom lip and tries not to giggle too loudly.
Now I think that's more like it

What are you talking about? Asari are in to that kind of thing.
What are you suggesting?!?! All asari are totally gaga for threesomes, foursomes, moresomes and krogan-size sex toys? That is a scandalous stereotype!

I't's not that I don't think Shiala doesn't, but I do think it's Shep she's flirting with, not a somewhat aggressive human female that is suggesting all manner of uncomfortable things. And I can see Jack being the run-'em-out-of-town-on-a-rail type completely. I mean, that sh*t's hilarious!

Downtime on the Normandy, PT 3.
Stirring from a web of fragmented dreams, a shifting figure slipped herself closer within her sheets amidst tangled limbs to soothe the cold prickling of waking reality. Cracking open an eye to take in the surroundings, the windows in the dimly-lit room shimmered with blue light as the walls hummed with the distant purring of the Normandy's drive core. A mosaic of faces moved sluggishly across smooth synthetic fibers to rest against flesh and muscle. The warmth it felt was a gentle reminder its owner made the rational choice in not sleeping on a rickety cot in the sub-engine deck.
Eyebrows furrowing to break through the thick veil of sleep, a pair of brown eyes wandered around the room to the bedside clock that read 4AM - an ungodly hour - before descending upon a weary face just several inches away. While lazily tracing the branches of its pale scars, underneath her wrist she could feel the rhythm of their synchronized heartbeats and the soft exhalations of his breath. Her skin still tingled with sensation at the memory of round knuckles travelling the length of her spine and the loving caress of fingers kneading away at knotted muscles, completely undeterred by angry threads of surgical scars that marred an otherwise smooth canvas of painted flesh.
Half-lucid and reeling with exhaustion once more, she rested deeper into the pillows for a few more eternities before attempting to shake the sleep out of her skull. She had just carefully slipped out of a coil of weighty limbs when one errant arm curled snugly against her waist and pulled her back inside a prison of warmth. Mumbling unintelligibly and having failed to shove herself away in time, she decided she will try again.
.. In about fifteen more minutes.

1) Does Jack belong in a ME game? Why, or why not?
1a) Some people say ME2 takes the setting less-seriously than it does in ME1. If you aree with this, and if you think Jack belongs in a ME game, do you think she would fit in better in ME1, or ME2?
2) Can Jack's character stand on its own?
2a) Is Jack's character too complex for ME2?
2b) Do you think Jack's character overwhelms Shepard's character?
2c) If you think Jack's character overwhelms Shepard's character, do you think Shepard is "worthy" of interacting with Jack?
2d) Is Jack's character done a disservice, by being in the "wrong" game, or by not being the main character, in its own game?

1a. ME1 had much more time to get to know the characters individually; I think that she may have fit better there, though really, everyone would have.
2. Not entirely. She's too aimless.
2a. Everyone's is.
2b. Maleshep has no character, so yes. Femshep, not really.
2c. N/A
2d. Everyone's done a disservice by being in ME2, quite frankly.

Shepard does not come off as particularly intelligent or interesting when talking to her. Many times Shepard must either defer to her or challenge her arrogantly. Other times s/he's looking down on Jack.
I don't think how they portrayed Shepard allowed Jack to fully shine.

What makes you say this? The voice-acting? That's all it could be.

The voice acting is huge. Tone of voice matters a lot more to communication than words, and Maleshep's tone is deliberately blank so that most players of him view him as an avatar rather than as a character in his own right. Which I hate, but plenty of people like, so I won't judge its merits. However, Maleshep honestly has no character that I can see.yorkj86 wrote...

It's a matter of perception, then.
Yep.
I must be the neutral party, because I don't place Jennifer Hale's voice acting over Mark Meer's, nor Mark Meer's over Jennifer Hale's. It's just that most people would like their character to sound a certain way (I.E. like themselves) and that kind of gets to them. Others read too much into the acting.
I just enjoy the dialogue. If something sounds out of place, I laugh at it, turn it into an inside joke, and move along. I don't criticize the actor's/actress's talent, unless I was sure that I could do better.
And besides, they've no choice but to sound like they do. Didn't Meer voice a couple of characters in Dragon Age? And if he did, did he sound like Shepard?
If any of you can provide evidence, it'd be much appreciated. Either way, I'm not jumping into this argument any more than I already have. I've got "Political Bullsh*t" on Hale's side, and "DRINK IT!" on Meer's side. That's enough to keep me sated.
---
To keep within topic, I'm going to answer one of those questions.
No, I don't think Jack overwhelms Shepard's character.
I mean, he's military. She's a "psychopathic" criminal, who's also a biotic. They got the dialogue right. I mean, you shouldn't expect Shepard to accept her, right off the bat. I'd be pissed off, then. But that's just me.

Eh, unless you really hurt her emotionally Jack seems to be the sort of person who lashes out when they're upset/angry so I could easily see her giving Shiala+co Looks That Kill and being even more brusque to Shepard than usual.

Meer voiced the volus and the vorcha. He's got a very wide range; he's just playing Maleshep in a specific way.
