As for Jack's popularity, well we've had ME2 for a year now. The replay value is wearing thin for a lot of people, I'd guess. However, compared to most of the ME2 squadmates, I think there are just so many directions you can go with your relationship with Jack/the development of her character. Maybe some people are just now realizing there's more to her than tattoos and a belt-bra. I'm a bit of a late convert myself.

I know this isn't quite what we're discussing right now, but holy mother of mercy, every time I look at my new sig bar I feel proud, intimidated, and amused. Thanks again, Epantiras!
You're welcome
Speaking of Jack's popularity, my fanarts on DeviantArt attracted a good number of people who wrote comments like "Jack is my favourite character", "I'm going to create a MaleShep just to romance her" and so on. Reading those comments has warmed my heart a little.
There *are* many Jack-haters out there, but also Jack-fans who aren't that "vocal" or that "loud" and therefore one may tend to underestimate their numbers. Jack may not be as popular as other characters, but people can (for example) like Tali AND Jack, they're not mutually exclusive.

If I remember correctly there's a Jack fan group up on DeviantArt that has a picture of Jack and Shepard in its archives somewheres.

You know what's strange? I have seen plenty of fanart featuring Shep and an LI (male or female) sharing an intimate moment. But nothing for Jack. Any reason why? Save for maybe that one featuring Shep having a nightmare about the Akuze incident where she comforts him.
Maybe people didn't like the final romance scene, and have been traumatized to any and all depictions of Jack and Shepard being intimate? Or, maybe, people just don't know how to anticipate how Jack and Shepard would be intimate, because of how harsh and confrontational Jack's personality is.
EDIT: Yay, axl's drawing something for us!

There are some tender Jack+Shepard pics in there and if I'm not mistaken, even Aimo almighty has drawn one of them (she's a sort of Dragon Age Fanartist Goddess).

Even better is her quote when you find the audio log after letter the merc go:
"That b***h! I *knew* I should have killed her!"
One of my personal favorites:
"Lots of dead bodies." *pause* "Nothing new here." (Sure enough, if you look around, corpses are everywhere.)
I've been lurking this thread the last 10 days or so, but since I've decided to contribute, I'd like to answer a general question someone posted a week or so ago. (Why do people like Jack?)
1. Her recruitment scene made me laugh. ("Ugh...you sound like a p***y!" *cut to Shepard's face where it's obvious he can't believe what he just heard* "Did she just call me a...? She did!") Subsequent banters and comments kept me laughing, so consequently, I liked having her around my Shepard all the time.
2. I felt that Jack's issues were something that my Shepard could relate to...not just passively "understand," and in helping her deal with her emotions, he helped himself turn away from his own anger and despair about all that he'd lost or sacrificed over the years. (Basically, in convincing her that she had to keep faith and not yield to the ugliness, he convinced himself to do the same.)
3. The relationship had a dramatic evolution, but the progression through dialogues seemed very natural to me. Shepard had plenty of chances to call bullcrap on Jack, and she gave as good as she got at times. Also, I like that even though he's trying to convince her to live her life without fear, he's not feeding her fake promises that "everything will end up okay/happily ever after." He pretty much says, one way or another, yeah, life can suck and bad things happen to good people, but you can't stop trying.
4. Visually, I loved the symbolism behind so many of their romance scenes. In one of the first and one of the last conversations: Early on, she jumps on a cargo box, and Shepard flinches away from her. They cut to her face, showing just how much she's getting off on his fear. Later, though, when he's telling her just why she should risk an affair with him, she's backing away in a panic as he slowly advances on her, closing the distance between them. Then, the "hand clasping" part of the cabin scene: mutual trust, connection, etc.
Anyway, I have to clock in to work now, but there you go.
My favorite line is when she gets knocked out "If I die I'll hunt you Shepard!".
Also I agree what you wrote there.
I really don't understand how I killed her most times in SM( she 6 times, Jacob 4 times:blink: out of 11 Shepard's).

I believe it's haunt you, not hunt you; maybe just a typo. But yes, that is a great line.

Yes, that's "haunt" :-) surprisingly, I've heard it only once in two playthroughs.

I don't hear it that often either. I hypothesize that's because Jack so rarely gets knocked out!
Edited for an inappropriate apostrophe.

(slightly offtopic) I'm wondering- people read less nowadays and it'll probably be progressing (although I really hope it won't), and I have this horrible image in my head that kids in n years time will be writing essays on video games characters instead of literary ones. Could be fun though, playing games as your homework
Edit: ****, it wouldn't be fun, it would be Fahrenheit 451.

I tried coming up with a list of things we've already gone over and came up short. So now, I just deal in 'what ifs' and write fan fictions about them. Because I can safetly assume that some people's what ifs are different from others. And it's because of that diversity that we'll always have something new to talk about, that also relates to Jack.
I don't think that idea has caught on well, though.

Well if anyone's hurting for more Jack-based fare, I'd like to get the opinions of my fellow Jackolytes about how I've portrayed the Bad Girl so far in my ME3 fanfic. It's not centred around everyone's favourite biotic convict, but due to her being the LI in my Shepard's ME2 runthrough she's having an effect on him. I'd really appreciate some feedback on how I've written her.

I've actually just started reading it. I'm only two chapters in, but I'm liking what I've seen, so far.
