And I'd argue insane as well. Crazy peple don't know they're crazy, as Jack is fully aware of what she's doing. Poor impulse control? Sure. Crazy? Nope.

She could very well turn out to be frighteningly "normal", if romanced. Jack never struck me as all that "broken" (or "psychotic", or anime-wtf, all that bullsh!t), or particularly "crushed" internally. I think she's a helluva strong woman, if suspicious and standoffish, but you certainly can't blame her for that.
Personally, I think she's painted the way she is because the devs needed to excuse her violence and seeming lust to engage in it.
She's a teenager, with a sh!tload of power and no real constraints, no learned behavioural blocks or limiters put on her. She's been used a helluva lot, but find me a woman that reached 25 that hasn't had her share of abuse (define it as you like) or slew of arschloch. She's run with greedy, ammoral and downright criminal folks - they're hardly gonna teach that sweet young and innocent weapon how to smile, bat her eyes, curtsy and hold her pinkie out whilst sipping tea in milady's parlour now, are they?
Jack is young, but there's an old, aware woman behind those deep browns - that old woman knows, and that old woman gets it. It's tenderness and caring and affection she doesn't understand - not completely - and certainly doesn't trust.
That doesn't make her some screechy anime caricature - that makes her complex and very worth knowing, baggage and all.
IMO, such comparisons do her character a disservice. Granted, tis only my opinion.

My theory, which is probably lame, is that I interpreted the "hands" to be the symbol for corrosion/corrosive, and with the tattoos located close to her heart I figured there was a connection between them. Seeing as anyone that has cared for Jack or she has cared for has met a tragic end, I viewed the tattoo as a visual reminder of this not only for Jack but more likely for any interested person, and that touching her heart is not only hazardous to you but her as well.

I just recently noticed Jack's "skeleton hand" tattoos on her chest, and wondered if anyone had an interesting theory as too there meaning?

Nice theory ;-) that tattoo instantly reminded me of the Aztec goddess Coatlicue who used to wear a necklace made of human hands and hearts, but I doubt it is the real source of inspiration.

I don't want to sound too obvious, but I think he's going to sh*t bricks ;-)

Well, here's a picture of Jack, by gambitgurlisis, showing her musculature. I find artists tend to ignore that she's quite fit. Homina. Or unf, if you prefer.

I wonder if that person is still working on that pic, it's not perfect but it's got potential.

Like you, I check back every now and again, but see no real reason to try and start a conversation. Personally, I'm more interested in the psychological aspects of Jack and not how much of a secret "cuddly-wuddly-widdle-wove-machine" she supposedly is if she's romanced by Naruto Shepard, or some equally boring, pointless 9 year-old bullsh!t.
Whatever. If that's what people wanna talk about, I certainly won't stop 'em.
So - how's "Son of Mindoir" coming along? I was going to update "Intermezzo" but no one was reading it, so no point, really. "Mindoir" seemed to have it's fans, though - anything pending?

I'm inclined to agree with your opinion Jake. That's why I enjoy Mondo's fiction so much. Her stories basically expose the normalcy (is that a word?) that is possibly inside of Jack. I would love so much to see Bioware use some of her ideas because in my opinion they are that damn good. Those walls that you speak of are definitely there because she has little experience with tenderness and affection. Her last lover died before she had any real opportunity to explore what a normal life could be like leaving her to the only world she understands.

I'd not have a problem with the cuddling business if it wasn't looked at comically. And I don't even like Naruto. I'm a Ghost in the Shell guy.
It's probably why I don't post anything regarding the 'funny pictures' that get uploaded, every now and then. It's also why I favor reading stories like the Intermezzo, or the Mass Effect 3 fanfic that was posted up by that guy whose name escapes me. I'm not saying comedy has no place in a story, I'm just saying place it where it's necessary. Or acceptable.
To answer your question about the SoM fanfic, I don't know. I have the will to write it, and it does seem like the watchers on DeviantArt appreciate me doing such, but I'd rather be brainstorming about what i'm going to write about other original, and unrelated stories.
I've had those original ideas in my head since elementary. Hard to put a copyrighted one in front of those.
Anyway, long story short, if anyone's looking for another chapter on SoM, they shouldn't bother holding their breath. Until the originals go somewhere, you can just say I have writer's block.

I was sympathizing with you, until you started to use a condescending tone to address people who like things that you don't like. <_<

Apologies if you took it personally. I addressed no one in particular, and I simply stated an opinion - a roundabout opinion - on what I tend to think of most anime. I'm not a fan. My tone reflected that I am not a fan. I like some anime, but being an old-timer, it tends to be the older stuff.
I just get tired of people seemingly to constantly screen everything through that particular sieve. Aren't there any actual literary comparisons you can make? Anyone read a book in the last ten years? Anyone?
You want anime? If Jack is like anyone in anime, she's most like Revy from Black Lagoon. An unrepentant, emotional cripple that loves her abilities, and has no problem wasting people who get in her way.
Sorry, best I can do. I treat anime like candy. Never substitute it for actual food.

Mondo gets it right, IMO. She writes Jack like a person, and not like she's dribbled in from a cartoon. I would certainly enjoy playing a game that had Mondo's Jack in it.

I'm an Akira-Bebop-Champloo kinda guy. Passed on the "remastered" version of GITM, although I have both versions on Blu-ray. If I want "cute", I go with Miyazaki. There's actual heart there.

I'm all for comedy. But funny is a tricky business and it takes skill. Slapstick is not comedy.

Nah, I'm not talking about anime. Can't stand the stuff. I was referring to the way you were referring to people who can think of Jack in a "lovey-dovey" way, with a condescending tone.

That's probably the best comparison anyone will ever get. I've seen the show to know about it.

You mean animes like the ones that find their way onto TV now, right?
Because there's a small number of anime that's actually interesting.
Excluding the childhood shows (DBZ, Pokemon, etc.) the only shows I can bring myself to watch is movies that branch into other, live action movies (The AniMatrix, Batman: Gotham Knight) or movies that branch into games (Dead Space: Downfall)
You'd never catch me watching the shows that are out, now. I've no clue what happened, but the interest's lost.
