Ok, since you're poking the anthill, fine. Jack's appearance (while not a vital aspect of her personality) is a reflection of the fractured construct that the character projects. Also, a lot of the puddle-shallow complaints about Jack were relating to her appearance; hair too short, too many tattoos, what the hell is that thing she wears, so on and so forth. This fact pretty much confirms that the character's visual design "works" - on the surface it pushes people away. While she may not be sure who she really is inside, no-one can say Jack does not wear her heart on her sleeve (or what she thinks is her heart at least). So Jack's appearance, for good or ill, is a construct based upon her character and personality. Covering the tattoos, for instance, removes an aspect of the character that is integral to the character. That is why I'd like the design to keep it's heart at least where it is now.

Shallow.

Then I'm shallow. Fine.

I didn't say that.

You didn't say much, no. That much is evident.

Let me make this clear, then.  I didn't accuse you, Mondo, of being shallow.  I used one word to answer a paragraph.

"visual design "works" - on the surface it pushes people away".

Surface?

"Also, a lot of the puddle-shallow complaints about Jack were relating to her appearance; hair too short, too many tattoos, what the hell is that thing she wears, so on and so forth."

Shallow complaints?

"So Jack's appearance, for good or ill, is a construct based upon her character and personality."

Which is shallow, or better, the surface.

I really disagree that acknowledging or having a preference for physical appearance (especially in a video game, it's not like we're talking about a real person here) automatically qualifies someone as shallow. It qualifies them as having eyes.

I didn't say that.

Not in the exact words I used, but that's because I really hate taking pieces of someone else's post to disagree point-by-point (Granted it was only one point, so maybe I should have). I apologize if that meant I reworded it in a way you didn't mean, but

some of you seem to be fixated quite a bit on her physical appearance, and the prospects of that changing. [...]
It comes across rather shallow to me.

seemed to equate pretty well to "acknowledging or having a preference for physical appearance" to me. "Preference," was in relation to how they might change her looks. Maybe I shouldn't have added the word "automatically" since dealing in absolutes is rarely a good thing.

Wow I leave for 8 months and nothing has changed? It's so...beautiful.

As for the debate over character design changes, I imagine Jack being nicer and growing her hair out, and refraining from using curse words, and i think that sounds fresh and awesome, but when i see her faaace

@Mondo

I'm sorry Mondo.  You're one of the few members on these boards that I wouldn't consider as "shallow".  I was too lazy to go into a quote fest with long explanations and countering, today, and I still am.  Although next time, I'll use more than one word to remove the ambiguity.  I thought using the word "shallow" was good enough, but obviously not.  Bad choice.

"For fans that like to talk about character depth, and Jack's psychology and back stroy, some of you seem to be fixated quite a bit on her physical appearance, and the prospects of that changing.  So what if she grows some hair or wears different clothes?  Big damn deal."

"It comes across rather shallow to me."

In that context ^, it still does.

Good to be back. Technically I never left but I recently upgraded from console to PC and, well, that's all she wrote. Prepare for an endless stream of Jack pictures, even if it means i'm shallow.

Thanks.

The only thing I think I know is that a speculating website said Jack is getting a "mature makeover". Now I look at Ashley's "makeover". Now I'm expecting the worst.

Mondo's reasoning for the importance of Jack's appearance is sound IMO, but unless she miraculously grows huge knockers and wears something from Miranda's spacedrobe, they can't deface this face!

If Jack is sporting pony tails and a DD breast augemtation, then I think we're all going to be scratching our heads about that.  If she becomes a totally different character, like a ditzzy blonde for example, twirling her hair and chewing bubble gum, then that would be a bad joke.

Being static and trapped in the past, is just as bad though, or she truly is a tragic figure.  If that's the case, then I guess a little tragedy in the story is good, although I know that's not what hardly anyone else around here wants.

I cringed when I read about her redesign. I hope they don't make her unrecognizable from the Jack I fell in love with. I'm glad to have her back though!

My thinking was along similar lines Goat, you can't fault Mondo for her stance. And it really comes down to whether your unyielding in your optimism like Royce for instance, or maybe like me you try to stay optimistic but some days the doubts slip in.

And speaking of huge knockers, they wouldn't have the balls to put that one by us would they?

"Jack, what happened to your chest?"
"Oh these, Chakwas says my neural implants have caused my breasts to enlarge"

WTF, Bioware. Oh wait that was rather shallow of me, there just boobs. ;)

What's the time-skip from ME2 to ME3? 3 months? That tells me nothing can be changed that drastically, but then I look at Liara and how she changed in a matter of hours. Anything goes I spose.

I prefer a happy ending for Jack because her whole life has been a tragedy. If she doesn't recover from that, then there's no morality to it, no sense of hope. I'm aware that in real life people who face adversity sometimes don't get a happy ending, but in a video game I don't see the point.  Shepard can already give her a tragic end at the Suicide Launch. Also Keep in mind I thought ME2 was plenty dark for me, so all I want is good times from now on :P

Ohh here we go

Dat abdomen.  You can also see her abdominal scars very clearly, there, along with the details of her tattoos.  I accidentally deleted all of my screenshots, when formatting my system drive [smilie]../../../images/forum/emoticons/sad.png[/smilie]
