At what times did you notice that Jack's actual thoughts, feelings and emotions leaked through her toughguy front, because of her expressiveness?
Definitely this one

Even with the sound off, her eyes betrayed that her "not being good at this soft stuff" was a bit of an understatement. You'd know there were trust issues when she talks about Manara, which is the other time I thought her expressiveness illuminated through the "tower of sh!t". After you say "You're tough, but you couldn't have survived alone all those years" her body language almost told me what she was about to say. Seemed she was a lot more hurt from that life lesson than she let on, which she summarized plainly with the "shorter knife" idiom.
Then "come on, you've been around" just makes me lol at how casually she expresses it.

Thing is there's a timer on that. Say it within around 5-10 seconds and she says that line.
Really?

Dammit, you're going to make me play through ME2 again to see if that's true or not.

Really? What does she say if you wait to choose that dialogue option?
I think she skips straight to the "This is so strange for me and you just keep pushing" line.

It's a great expression, that's why I chose it for my avatar (made from a screenshot without the red light).Goat_Shepard wrote...

Well, another reason is that the badass ones were already taken by Bobby and Mondo

"I'm not interested in some dumbsh*t love affair. Never goes right."
Maybe it's more in Taylor's reading, but the way she says it never works out and then she sits there unable to make eye contact with Shepard - and she's the one that has no qualms about getting up in his face from moment one. There's so much disappointment and resignation in it all. She wants it to go right. Desperately so. Add to that she can't look at Shepard while she explains how it all went wrong with Murtock...
"So what? You ever see me flinch? Or run? Death is easy - f*ckin' on/off switch. But this, it just burrows in. You end up like those husks, with nothing inside. I'm supposed to take that and say "Thanks, Dead Guy?"
It's just the way she goes from being angry to being crushed in the space of a lunch check; he shoulders sag, the voice just deflates. She talks about some of the terrible sh*t that's been done to her so matter-of-factly, but this takes all the wind out of her sails.
"Uh...I... I need some time to think, alright? Really... just - leave me alone!"
Facade broken completely. She sounds like any woman other than Jack at that point; Miranda is interested from note one after the loyalty mission, Tali's been making goo-goo eyes at Shepard from the moment she got on board... going back to ME1, Liara and Ash were fluttering their eyelids from bloody minute dot - hitting Shep up with the coy little smiles not five minutes after their asses have been hauled out of the fire (I could say something here about how patronising it is to have women doing this in any kind of media presentation - be it games, movies, whatever - but I won't
Incidentally, it might say something for people (read: guys - yes, I am being sexist, bite me - I'll point you at the filing cabinet of Exhibit A being the raft of guys that like to talk trash about Jack in comparison to the almost complete lack of it from women) getting all "confused" about Jack and calling her out on being a b*tch all the time. By this conversation stage in ME2, Tali is mainlining antibiotics and has swapped her shower gel for antihystemines, and Miranda is hastily reshuffling the duty roster for engineering... Jack though, you're still not totally sure where you stand... until this talk and her cover's blown.

Thinking back on my first playthough I felt that my interactions with Jack were the most realistic. I found myself actually debating how to respond to her, and of course looking forward to talking to her again.
I do remember that moment after horizon where Jack asks if Shepard wants her(demands would probably be a better word) and I was siting there and knew if I picked the wrong answer the romcance would be over.
A few times I thought I had messed up the romance with her a couple times until she showed up before the collector mission.
Honestly one of Bioware's best written characters and romances.
Maybe I'm missing something but I never understood why people didn't like Jack ... seriously best Li in Mass Effect...period.

Holy butts, I just got a response from Ms. Courtenay Taylor. Apparently the e-mail address I was directed to, has been dead for over a year, and that's why she never got our e-mail. Axl, should I show her the picture you drew?
Hey, nice to hear!
Well, if you want to draw attention to our lil' fanbase, there's also a certain comic strip that some folks around here hammered together... *coughcoughcough*
