And there's nothing to say that you can't take it out again later... hell, save the universe, she could take out all her implants and try the normal life she was denied. I somehow doubt she'd ever consent to all of them going, but pulling the plug on a few things once she finds her comfortable place to stop... might buy more healthy time down the line...

Or maybe, if we want to get into silly sci-fi what-ifs, just maybe the fact that her potential is increasing in relation to the progress of the apparent degeneration... maybe Jack is in the progress of becoming an actual human biotic; the brain can and does rewire and repair itself in reality when it suffers traumatic tissue and nerve damage, so just as the asari are all natural biotics, maybe Jack is slowly, unbeknown to herself, reconfiguring her brain and CNS for just that purpose. And let's face facts here, if TIM ever wanted an army of super-biotics, they're not that effective if they're as hit and miss to produce as Jack - how many hundreds of kids sacrificed to get just one working prototype? Wouldn't it be just more cost effective and practical to make them breed that way? And considering TIM has beaten death through the Lazarus Project... doesn't sound that impossible, does it?

Food for thought... isn't it?

Well, I'd like to see any doctor, anywhere, try to get their hands on Jack, even if your speculation turns out to be true.

[SPOILER]

Besides, TIM and Cerberus seem to be beyond genetic engineering, as far as human biotics go.  By now, they're just injecting in to people whatever Reaper parts they can find laying about.

That made me lol pretty hard :D then I imagined Shepard asking Jack if she'd like to go back under the knife and I think I peed a little from the thought of her reaction

You have nothing to worry about. I'll tell you why.

Fact: Jack is awesome.

Fact: Casey loves Jack.

Fact according to me: Thane is a LI and is not a permanent squaddie.

She has to be a permamanet squadmate. There is literally nothing else she could do besides dick around and make a nuicense of herself while the galaxy is being destroyed. Oh I know... Anderson/Udina get killed and HELLO Councillor Jack. First order of business, break Mr. Ah Yes Reaper's fingers

I think the important aspect of this is choice; in the past, Jack never had any choice in what was done to her, but if she had to make the choice herself - do it or not, everything on her shoulders alone - you'd have to wonder if her reluctance would remain when she was choosing... not for anyone other than herself, no pressure, and in an environment she has come to trust and feel comfortable in... I don't think it'd be quite so cut and dry myself.

Getting rid of some of the implants and powers would be a difficult decision not only for Jack, but for any biotic. They're trained from a young age to make the best use of their talent and they learn to live with the pain caused by it. Maybe some biotics would give anything to be 'normal' to avoid all this, but I assume most of them are used to their situation and enjoy the power they've been given.
They may be compared to today's professional athletes- they train for years but it pays off in the end.

With Jack the situation is more complicated. She has endured more than just physical pain, but it made her stronger and she enjoys it (I know, she was "programmed" to fight and enjoy it, but every human can be easily programmed to do some things for a reward).
Using the above comparison- Jack is a professional athlete, but trained in Soviet Union or Eastern Germany.

I think it would be a really tough decision to make, something more than just making a list of pros and cons. Jack and other biotics didn't choose to become what they are but can choose to either burn bright (and drool later) or smoulder but for longer time.

lol but seriously, the writing doesn't lie. The only reason any character is written so well is because their creators feel a personal attachment to them. Jack had a lot of dialogue, and there's still LOT of development that is too golden to pass up.

I just never entertained the idea that Jack would want to be "normal". She loves the power they gave her, but wasn't given the choice. Wow, that would be a huge moment. Jack talking with Shepard about surgery and getting all embarrassed as she asks "Will you be there with me?" and then he holds her hand and says something cheesy and reassuring like "for eternity."

HHNGG!

After reading the whole "Neural Degradation" makes her stronger I keep imaging that Jack's life will end the same way it began. With violence. I can totally see a much older Jack being unable to control her biotic powers and literally just exploding.

It's horrible to think of but I've being reading too many X-Men comics and this kind of stuff happens for Jean Grey every Tuesday. That or she gets hooked up with cybernetic implants that keep her powers in check. Maybe better biotic implants as well that allow her to regulate how much energy she outputs. Think Cyclops with his visor.

I don't think implants can be removed. The amplifier can. It's put in a slot at the base of the neck. Implants, though, are in the CNS. I think they're permanent. They're why people with the more dangerous versions of implants, like Kaidan, don't have them replaced with newer models.

EDIT: Implants in humans can be removed, but only through extremely dangerous brain surgery.  Also, Jack probably has more biotics-related equipment in her than most doctors would be willing to work with.

Oddly enough, I could have sworn that someone wrote something similiar with this as a major plotline, months ago...  can't quite remember the name of the guy...  the story was "Antlermatzoh" or some stupid sh!t....

Guess the idea was considered kinda stoopid and farfetched way back then.   ;)

Now I remember, "One slip and you can't remember your own name."

Is it possible Confused Shepard is somewhat correct? Could Jack become so unstably powerful that she would have no choice but to do something about it or risk losing control?

Dammit Casey Hudson, stop teasing us! :-P

Jack... a "key character"? That's awesome :D
Also, it sucks to be a Thanemancer right now, so I'll just go back in my hole and lick some drell skin meanwhile.

What if Jack became the key to enabling natural human biotics, instead of Miranda? Miranda was created to be "perfect". I'm not trying to start a pissing contest between the fandoms. I'm examining this from a literary standpoint. What if it's the "accident" who leads to something miraculous?

It's nice to see that Jack will be a "key character." It means Jack will be a big part of the major plot if she lived. Remember how it was said squad members would be divided into three groups. Major story characters who change the plot if they are with you, people along for the ride, and temporary squad members with their loyalty mission 2.0s.

Ok, that's just vomit-inducing. Jack would just have to dismantle the Mills & Boone moment then by telling Shep to f*ck off or something like -

"Sure you will... because you are soooo my b*tch."  :D

As for the whole idea of it being too hard to tinker with the CNS... we can't forget that TIM had one completely reconstructed. The biggest issue in medical science has been made a mockery of by the backstory of the second game (unless Shep turns out to be some kind of advanced robot from the future or something). If death is now reversable there should, with a little creative theft of Cerberus technology and comparing notes with Miranda, be very little that shouldn't be fixable... Thane's nasty cough, Jack's headaches, Mordin's extreme old age, Miri's fat ass,  Aria's sucky personality (though granted you could cure that with a shot to the head)...

And it means a bad guy like Timmy could always come back later. It's a bit of a too-good-to-pass-up for Space Opera if you ask me.

Must you ruin my moment with a better one? <_<:D

Cerberus can miraculously reconstruct a hot bubbly mass of meat into the exact same person it used to be, but there's no cure for an acid bath.

As much as I can't stand the "Humans Are Special" trope, especially the way the writers have handled it, I think that this idea would be pretty cool, objectively.

So my speculation in a joke thread where Jack turns into the essence of biotics reaching near godlike status, destroys the Reapers and leaves a small child in Shepards arms BUT ONLY IF ROMANCED turned out to be true

For someone like me who does not haz cognitive intelligence, how could Jack (who was manufactured) be the key to unlocking natural biotics in humans? She had A LOT of biotic potential when she was born, and her neural degeneration is making her biotics stronger, that's all I know.

Congrats, everyone. Jack can now be the stereotypical lesbian everyone expected her to be.
