Somehow I doubt it's just an adornment because it flashes periodically and that could alert the enemy to Jack's presence.
Btw I'm using the Claymore and I forgot it's got a 1-bullet magezine instead of what I previously thought was 3.
What gives?! Why me?!

Maybe that makes her avoidant comments about her tattoos more meaningful.
If Jack were to cover up her tattoos, that could have made for a really, really interesting different final romance scene, where Jack sits down with Shepard, and he goes over her tattoos, one-by-one, instead of the crying-and-cuddling we got.

1) What description were you given about Jack's character?
When we audition for things, we usually get a paragraph of information about the character. It often includes their attitude, if they have an accent, their pitch, social status, age, etc. It's usually accompanied by a picture. I actually don't remember the original audition for Jack because it was a few years ago now, which is kind of a bummer since I would love to see what we got for her!
2) What was your reaction when you found out you were voicing a badass chick who's covered in tattoos and has a shaved head?
As a kid I was really into punk rock music so I was psyched! I ran around with girls who had shaved heads and tattoos (although not to Jack's extreme) so she looked very familiar to me. And she was so original looking in the world of games - I loved that she didn't have long hair, thigh boots and huge boobs...although from reading the boards upon her initial release, I was in the minority of thinking she was hot! I couldn't believe people hated her so much before the game even dropped - especially because of her looks. I was happy to see some people changed their minds once they played ME2, but still - note to self: Don't read the boards!
3) Were you able to find Jack's voice quickly, or did you have to experiment with a few different types of accents, dialects and enunciations before it sounded right?
I'll let you in on a little secret - there was no experimenting with her vocal sound. Jack is just me - sometimes on a very bad day. The director immediately asked me to use my own voice which was a bit of a relief. Jack had so much emotional range that it allowed me to just concentrate on that stuff and not worry about an accent or attitude that was further from my own.
4) Jack has quite a few emotional scenes. Was it difficult to nail that perfect tone for those scenes?
Because in video games we generally record separately from other actors, certain material can be a challenge. When she was describing what had happened to her as a child standing in her old room - that was a bit tricky. You have to live those memories in the first person and not get caught standing outside of it, feeling badly for your own character. Torture and experimentation are things I've not experienced so I instantly default to being horrified and obviously that doesn't work for Jack. So I had to work to stay away from that. Her rage, her disdain for Miranda, and her sensitive moments came easier. I understand what it's like to be a tough girl with a gooey center!
5) Were you able to hear the lines of other characters while you were recording lines?
Not the actors' spoken versions. In most games the director will help us sort out what is going on in the moment, and read the previous line to us so we know who we are talking to and the tone of the scene. The gorgeously talented Ginny McSwain directed me on all my Jack sessions, and she gives a killer read and gave me a lot to work with. She is a ****** jack actor and director and she can coax a great read from just about anyone.
6) Have you seen a lot of footage of Jack with your voice coming from her mouth?
I've seen the trailers and the clips on YouTube. I absolutely loved the trailers - I was gobsmacked to see the final product. She's so cool and real and looks amazing. I loved howcandid that one was where she is talking into the camera - they did a brilliant job. Although after the initial trailer I did get a lot of messages on my cel from friends, saying "Who's the bad-ass biotic now, ****?" So I think that was the favorite line!
7) How do you feel about the about the end result of the character Jack? Is there anything you would change about her?
I am really proud of Jack, not just the work I did but her whole persona - she was so distinct on the page. The writers should be commended on creating a complex, layered character that represents a different kind of real girl out there who really does exist and deserves to be heard. She was the first character I've voiced in a game where I was like, "Oh yeah, I totally get this girl..." She has no governor over what she says or feels but she is no bull**** either. And I'd rather hang out with people who are a little socially awkward and will tell you the truth of how they feel than someone who's "nice" and tells you what you want to hear.
The only thing I didn't love was something visual, and the Bioware guys changed before the release. Initially I wasn't mad about the leather strap across her chest - but they changed it to a regular top. I'm not puritanical at all - Jack just didn't seem like she would lead with something so sexy - she's too guarded to show that much skin even though she loves her tattoos. I felt they were for HER though, not to show off. I thought the final look was great and her tattoos were especially amazing.
8) Did you do voice work for other characters in the game?
I did, Kalara Tomi. I was credited with another character in the press, but it was a mistake.
9) How were you chosen as Jack's VA?
That you would have to ask the lovely people at Bioware! I assume they listened to a million auditions so I was very fortunate to get the role. Having a deeper voice probably helped since Jack simply could NOT sound squeaky, and I have worked with and auditioned for Bioware before so perhaps that was a factor? I'd like to think it was my *sparkling* personality and toothy grin, but I doubt it
10) And last but not least, cake or pie?
That is easy. CAAAAAAAAAAAAAKE! I don't like hot fruit much so pie is last on the list. I love cupcakes and really good scratch cakes. My best friend is an epic baker so I've been known to knock out a few cupcakes with some strong coffee and call it breakfast!
I would just like to say a big fat thank you to all the Jackolytes out there! What a talented, smart, creative bunch you guys are! I am constantly blown away by the gorgeous art and writing you guys craft. Thanks for all the kind words on the boards, in the mail and on Facebook and Twitter. I am thrilled that you love Jack as much as I do and I hope to stay connected with you guys!
Much love, Courtenay

While I agree, that the belt-bra is not necessarily an outfit Jack would have really chosen, but I think it's the best she could make from her prisoner suit. She wanted to shock guards and other criminals, maybe provoke them. Showing skin was one way to do so.

I think it was fate that I somehow avoided being ninjamanced by Miranda, and I'm glad because Jack's "you're weird Shepard....that kinda gets me off" line was for me a better post suicide mission/romance dialogue than anything that could have been, and the perfect ending to my inaugural playthrough.

Hot indeed, but alas, isn't it always the mass of narrow-minded bigots who turn sensible people away from the boards. It's amazing that she loves Jack, the only character she voiced that she "totally gets". Pretty incredible info and no doubt a major reason Jack is so convincing. And she was so original looking in the world of games - I loved that she didn't have long hair, thigh boots and huge boobs...although from reading the boards upon her initial release, I was in the minority of thinking she was hot! Unbelievable, I never noticed. And that's the only other character she did? Preposterous!I did, Kalara Tomi.
Ms. Taylor generally seems like a fun-loving down-to-earth badass. Couldn't have asked for a better actress to voice Jack
I'm thrilled at you Jackolyte's efforts to get in touch with the person that helped bring art into video games, and equally to C.Taylor for reaching out. I didn't think it was possible to like Jack more but here we are.

Also, it seems she only had a problem with the leather strap as the default? As an alternate she didn't mind? Hmm. I agree with ya York that her aversion to discussing her tattoos makes more sense if they're not on display. I had her wear the leather straps nearly the whole game for my benefit, so I could look at them, and that was Bioware's plan with the outfit. I want her wearing even less clothing for that particular benevolence as well

Awww, I'm bitterly dissapointed. Ah well, I'll still end up getting the DLC anyway, regardless of price, I only recently got ME2 and didn't get ME1, I can't believe what i've missed out on! On another note, a thought recently occured to me, I pay for an subscription for xbox live and still have to pay for DLC (I can understand paying for full games or expansion packs), it sucks atleast playstation network is free. Bloody microsoft, shaft you everytime. Anyway, thanks for replying,
Good luck and stay safe

I was indifferent initially. Felt like you where she seemed too edgy. I was dumbfounded that Bioware would implement a female character that looked and acted like this, completely out of the norm, knowing people would prolly only hate her. Was she some ploy to make Miranda look better? I couldn't believe it. I thought for sure Miranda was the paragon LI and Jack was the clear renegade LI, not considering for a second that she would turn out this good. She still came off as too strong when I first played the game, and I don't think there even was a catalytic moment but she eventually grew on me. I was definitely slower than most, but I came aroundGeneralSlotts193 wrote...
After watching the "Subject Zero trailer" originally, her looks didn't register with me whether she was ugly/beautiful or anywhere in between. I was initially put off by her personality, I guess she had a little more edge to her than what I was used too, but it helped that any of the other character trailers failed in endearing me to that character. But I like to think I'm an openminded person so everyone got there chance to win me over, and it was the emotion that exploded out of her, as we flew in and during her loyalty mission that won me, and it helped that IMO the shot of her on in the hover car was the most beautiful image in the game.
@Slurms
The DLC is worth the money imo. I also think $50 a year for Live is worth it just for the knowledge that the network will never get hacked. I understand where you're coming from, tho.
Stay safe and good luck as well

Funny thing too, I was certain that Jack would only work for Renegade players when I first saw that trailer of her. Even in my first playthrough, I went for Miranda with my first Shepard, but slowly grew to love Jack. I was tore between the two hahahaha, but now I can't even go back to Miranda. I still enjoy her character, but it's just not the same.

Such a character has always been periodically present in sci-fi. River from Firefly for example, another messed up heroine who was abused and maltreated and ended up becoming a near-psychopathic killing machine, albeit without Jack's shaved head and tats, but the themes are there nevertheless. Indeed, Bioware has had this kind of character before in the form of Morrigan in Dragon Age: Origins, if I recall correctly, although she was never as cool as Jack.
Jack is just a part of a tradition of characters in storytelling, although in that regard Bioware did excel, Jack's story was beautifully told. However, at the risk of discrediting this arguement, nobody's ever had a purely original idea. In my own experience learning and playing the guitar (a bizarre example, but bear with me), this case is evident. For example, many of Slash's guitar licks and riffs are derived from Chuck Berry, Keith Richards and even some country lines. An awful lot of Eddie Van Halen's licks are just those of Eric Clapton's, except played ludicrously faster. What I'm trying to say is that nobody has ever had a purely original idea that wasn't influenced by any outside factor or influences, so in that regard kudos to Bioware for constructing such a beautiful character, and I've just successfully discredited my previous arguement, which begs the question why I've even bothered writing this post. Excuse my ramblings.

I think everyone here agrees with you, as 99.9% of characters fit into pre-defined archetypes, but as we've just seen via York's post its Miss Taylor that makes the character shine.

I hate the world today
You're so good to me, I know
But I can't change
I tried to tell you but
You look at me like maybe
I'm an angel underneath
Innocent and sweet
Yesterday I cried,
Must have been relieved
to see the softer side
So take me as I am
this may mean you'll
have to be a stronger man
rest assured that when
I start to get you nervous
And I'm going to extremes
Tomorrow I will change
and today won't mean a thing
----------
I think its cool
You do what you do
And don't try to change me
----------
Good Luck and Stay Safe ------------> I have to admit I'm loving this, you are a genius Slurm.

Awwwwwww, that warms the ****les of my heart, Goat, I rarely get called a genius, in fact I never get called a genius. I've been called many a things, 'Git' and 'Sponge', too name a few, but never a Genius. Thank you Goat. Regarding the comment thingy, I always thought it was important to stay safe, especially after witnessing my brother catch a very nasty yeast infection. Grisly sight, and his trousers always smelt yeasty, stank out the room, made it very difficult to play co-op Halo with him. But alas I digress, thanks for the compliment.
