Decided to do something a little different today while playing the suicide mission. The first time I completed it, I got No One Left Behind by pure fluke. I just went with the choices that made most sense. Since then, I have never had a playthrough where I lost anyone. However, I decided to make a playthrough where I deliberately lost people. I did it for some emotional stimulus for my writing. Usually I just go through the SM, but this time I decided to mix it up a little. One of the casualties was, sadly, our favourite biotic convict.

When I first played the finale of the game, I was tense, worried that I'd lose any one of the dirty dozen i had assembled. However, when Jack died leading the second team, I wasn't really hit all that hard. Until I got back to the Normandy. I went down to the sub-deck and saw her pistol lying on her cot among those Cerberus datapads. Its the one she holds up when she says 'I go to sleep with this, I wake up with it. When I saw that pistol lying there, abandoned and purposeless, it really struck home that Jack never came back from beyond Omega Four. Anyone else had an experience like that? You know, not feeling the loss of a squad member until you see a tiny object that belonged to them orphaned on the Normandy.

On a related note, I read somewhere (on the wiki maybe) that romanced Jack had different lines to non-romanced Jack if she died leading the second team. The default line is 'I wasn't supposed to care'. But I thought there was a line where she says 'I was too happy with you' or something. I've always Jackmanced, and did so on the playthrough where I lost her, but she didn't say the line. Am I remembering things wrong?

The dying-while-romanced lines were cut out. Jack only says the "I wasn't supposed to care" line, if she dies on the suicide mission.

A shame. It would have helped add a little more tragedy to the loss, for any of the romance options. But I guess they needed to keep it fair for Miridians, seeing as she can't die in a situation that would allow any famous last words. I mean, fair enough, Garrus' 'snipe one for me' line is pretty tear-jerking, but I do think the 'too happy with you' line has a little more impact than 'I wasn't suppoed to care'.

It really hit me during the coffin scene, but she was the only casualty.

Lovin them motivationals, Slotts. My goddess!

-------------
Why in the hell were those SM lines cut? They couldn't fit 5 lines? And how do you know what the unused lines were?

Naturally Idk about any of them (Garrus' line is indeed a tearjerker and I didn't even hear the audio), nobody's died except Mordin for me on playthrough #1, which, like Slotts, finally hit me when I saw his lowly coffin and realized I loved the doc. If I get choked up over an old salarian dying then I got no hope of getting Jack killed, especially if she's my LI at the time.  The deciding factor is hindsight in that I have to purposefully fail, so it's not some mental error like in my first playthrough, it feels like murder  I'm simply not a good enough roleplayer to do a failthrough.

Regardless, I think "I wasn't supposed to care" is pretty damn heavy. You essentially progress her character development significantly just before she dies. It's an especially impactful statement compared to "snipe one for me", and I'm sure her inflection brings it further. And they say this over the radio if they lead the 2nd team, huh? No face to face?

Ugh, they say don't go to bed angry but nothing about grief. Guhnight.

That new lithograph will be on the store, soon.  I'm going to attempt to buy one.

Also, the only two lithographs left after all this time are Jack-themed - Pragia and Teltin.  Poor Jack - not even her merchandise can catch a break from the playerbase.

Ok, I'll be the Devil's advocate today: from a business point of view, Jack is not one of the most loved chracters, so if you want to sell merchandise use Tali or Garrus instead. Miranda works well too. That explains why there is zero Jacob-related stuff on the Bioware store (the team litho will be his first appearance). Actually, I'm quite surpriiized that Bioware even bothered making a Thane litho (even though that litho ROCKS, he's not that popular).

To further Epantiras' point, and I can only speak for myself but as much as I love Jack I'm probably never going to buy a lithograph.

Yep, deliciously evil murder muuuhaahaa. Ever since I killed Jack I've been killing people left and right, desensitised I guess.

I have the lithograph of Jack shooting those mercenaries as she jumps through the air, and I managed to get an order in for the new lithograph. I think they look great framed. I gotta decorate the walls with something.

I recall the Teltin litho but where's the other one?

So my computer stopped bugging and finally let me Walk with Jack. It's been a long time, and aside from realizing just how hauntingly incredible the scene is itself, I noticed the music for that part is from Samara's theme. It fits rather beautifully. Then I thought of the rest of the theme and swear those two soundtracks are interchangeable.  Jack and Samara's themes couldn't be better for them, Samara's has that (eastern European?) sound that fits her perfectly, but the eery calm of the intro and the intensity of those trumpets suits Jack nicely, imo.

I also, love that Shepard doesn't say anything for the Walk with Jack. Just Courtenay's voice with that music and Shepard's presence, o-m-g, bellissimo. If the mission took longer than 20 minutes I'd probably be an emotional wreck. So thank you, Bioware, for keeping it short.

It's right after Aresh is gone. She says she wants to look around and you can say "okay" or "we don't have time". When I say "okay" it usually skips right to the bomb detonation scene. Now it figures it finally works when I'm not romancing her :pinched:

I like those small things like themes that play during certain scenes. That theme links Jack to Samara, two characters that are so different -  but also the two best candidates as holders of the biotic bubble.

Eh. I could just ask Ben and see if I can get a high res file from him, but nah. That's a terrible thing to do for a large print. What I will ask is if there will be another Jack litho.

Knowing him, he'd probably say no. Hehe.

Indeed. One playthrough I'll run with Samara and Jack, or Garrus and Jack. Like the cookies of an oreo that would kill each other except that they're separated by Shepard, the creamy center :D

Meh, it's sort of ruined by the fact that everyone's in a fog except Miranda and Jacob. Seriously, wtf? As if Miranda's ass wasn't already prominently center-framed for half the ME2 experience. And where's Mordin? You know, the guy who's 10x the awesome?

w/e, Jack looks awesome even in the fog. What other Jack lithos are there? I've seen the one where she's shooting behind her, but that's it.

While having another litho in which Jack is pictured is nice, this is the only bit of ME2 merchandise that Samara is in.

True that. I think both her and Mordin have been short-changed lith wise. Especially Samara. I think they missed a trick there. Bioware could have released an asari twin-pack with Samara and Morinth. Samara's litho could have her in her red Justicar armour against a blue background looking all paragon-y, while Morinth would wear her black leathers against a red background look all dark side. The pair would look like they belong next to one another, i.e. Samara facing right while Morinth faces left, but they could be bought/hung separately as well.

As for Mordin, I'm surprised. I thought he had a large following. Oh, well, maybe we'll get a musical card that plays scientist salarian or something.

I think it would be worth their while doing the whole team individually, even Zaeed and Kasumi. If they reckon a lith won't sell as fast, then make less. There's always going to be some fan who'll gladly go for them, and there's always completionists like myself to consider. (I'm okay with liths I've missed, the minis suffice, but I like to get the full size if I can. So far since the collectors the only one I missed was Cerberus, thanks to the weird release.)

Anyway, something Jack related... I think she looks a lot better in this team lith than the one focused on her. Her tats are a bit more defined, and also the first one had a kind of cartoony feel to it. Thoughts? Also, while we're on it, I'm surprised that Pragia's still in the store, albeit only with 50 left. It's a very pretty scene, much better than the dull grey of Purgatory. In fact, i find it to be more mystical and yet more vibrant than most scenery liths, with maybe the exception of Afterlife and the Wards.

I like her voice actor best, probably. If she had anyone else's voice after this one, it just wouldn't be the same. She reminds me of the chick from V for Vendetta with the hair cut and the attitude of the girl in some ways. She's not scared on the surface, acts tough, and can kick the crap out of anyone who messes with her. Her getting emotional at times is nice to know there's a person beneath it all, too. She's pretty rad. /end

Last night I had a dream with Jack in it. I think it involved some sort of Bioware all stars game I was playing. Because she was in a team with me and Fenris. And we were hiding from Qunari and Dragons or something. And someone we ran into another bald headed slightly socially unbalanced character named Jack.He was like some sort of engineer or something who made cool makeshift inventions. Jack was trying to convince him to join us because since she was in a previous game, she liked me now.

What Bioware is missing out on is putting out another full-sized artbook like they did with Mass Effect 1. There was a loooooot of content they made in ME2.

There were plenty other concept drawings of Jack that Matt did that he never uploaded on his blog/website/art community - a couple of which that did make it in the mini artbook. Pretty sure there were more, but oh well.
