According to Ms. Norman, we shouldn't think of squadmates as working the way they did in ME1 and ME2, in terms of "temporary" and "permanent."

What the heck could that mean?Image IPB

You'll have squadmates based on the mission, not based on who you choose, maybe?

And how does Casey's statement that ME3 will have a smaller squad fit into this, because this new information makes in seem like there trying to work in a large squad by spreading them out.

I don't know, mang.  All I know, is that I hope that Liara isn't shoved down my throat.  No more Ilos situation, please.  Don't make her a constant squadmate.

Maybe like LotSB, where you bring two permanent Squadis along and as the mission progresses you leave one behind.
The problem is, you can kill everyone in ME2.
An explanation would be nice.

Maybe Liara, Ash/Kaidan, and James Vega are there if you did get your squad killed in ME2 in order to fill missing roles.

You don't want her to be a manditory plot device? Or you don't want her mind-raeping you after every mission as she grins mischievously?

Ms. Norman greatly confuses me because the easiest way to deal with squadmates that might not be alive is to just stick them on the ship as useful footsoldiers, no plot required for possibly dead characters. To "not assume squadmates work like they did in ME1-ME2" would mean they're possibly not recruitable and/or they're not permanent (which means added excuses or "plot" to explain why they're leaving/required somewhere else).

Garrus showing up in the demo makes me think it DOES work the same as ME1-ME2, only instead of recruiting him, he's just there, as an alternative.

Maybe Norman means Shepard will keep his smaller crew of convetional companions, (such as liara, garrus, tali..etc.) with secondary characters accompanying him on the missions that pertain to their interests. Like Jack might return for another chance to exact revenge from the Cerberus teams that are out to kill Shepard. I think that would be a great way for them to deepen the relationship between Shepard and Jack.

I'm wondering if we will have two squads working on two separate main objectives that fit together in the end, and Shepard drops in when he/she is ready. That works for Ms. Norman's statement since having a squadmate for half the game isn't what we are used too, and Casey's statement remains true as well about having a smaller squad. But I have no theory as to how they will fit these two plot threads together, and how will the final mission/missions work? Maybe at that point everyone links back together.

One of my favourite parts of the suicide mission was the feeling that finally it felt like Shepard's crew was working as a team, and I think maybe thats what there going for here. And squad banter works a lot better with fewer people involved, less variables and all that.

I second NICKjnp. And just to add to that, could the VS, Liara, and James be the only characters with Shepard from beginning to end. With Tali and Garrus being confirmed early to keep there fanbases from rioting or starting hundreds of "where's Tali?" threads, even if there possibly still in the same boat as everyone else.

Hmmmmm, this squadmate business is a little confusing.......................:pinched: Anyway, a few posts back people were talking about why Cerberus might have turned on Shepard and co. and were discussing indoctrination and whatnot. Well, I've been racking my brains and I've come up with this new theory:

The Illusive Man got very high, went on a raging bender that can only be described as a voyage to tripout city and decided to turn on Shepard for poops and giggles. Then he just sort of wandered off somewhere........................................

*Smug* yeah, took me a while to come up with that, hehe :o

I've also been working on my first fanfic short story and it shall be ready soon for reading! I was wondering if any of you guys like the idea of a heartbroken Shepard drowning his sorrows in copious amounts of alcohol? Eh, what do you think? Good material or what?

Good Luck and Stay Safe B)

P.S. Don't steal my idea, or I shall become enraged and maul you with my fearsome gonads!!

Yep. And with all these theories floating around, when ME3 is launched we will all find out how wrong we were.

@Slotts

Excellent theory. The only thing is that most or all your squad might be dead, so any plot device to split the squad in half like these "missions" would have to be uniform, able to be completed by anyone (or noone, depending on how many are alive). Or something like the "hold the line" section of the SM, except during a Reaper invasion where it'd be incredibly tacky.

@Slurms

That depends on why Shepard is heartbroken.

Do you mean when she offers sex for the first time (she says something like "if it's about sex, you should just f*cking say so" if I remember correctly). Say NO!!

BTW if you listen to Kelly, she does warn Shepard that Jack offers casual sex in order to "test" people. Or something along those lines. Corect me if I'm mistaken :-)

Oh, oh! I know this one! Kelly says... "I know she'll be solid under fire, but her attitude suggests deep personal issues. She pushes people away, but approaches sex casually. It's likely she doesn't understand her own motivations. I wouldn't be surprised if she made a pass at you, Commander. But if you want her respect, think twice."

Thank you, Kelly! Always so helpful. <3

TOP JACK!

lol he does.

Jack is so funny with that thing, the very next battle she ran up to within shotgun range and blasted someone regardless of how close I was, too. I had to literally turn and run. She survived, naturally.

YESSS!

Kidding, kidding! I'm scared to finish a playthrough on that decision. What I didn't notice before was that after she says that, you can choose the option "Yes, I want you" and then still say you want to get to know her first after she says "Well, what, right now then?".

It probably has no affect, virtually, but the fact that you can say "I'd be lying if I said no. You're different" when she asks if it's just about sex kinda contradicts (or should I say changes the narrative of) any further attempt at a paragon romance (I'm talking about saying it's just about sex, but you want to get to know her first, but then do a paragon romance)

BTW if you listen to Kelly, she does warn Shepard that Jack offers casual sex in order to "test" people. Or something along those lines. Corect me if I'm mistaken :-)

She also says Garrus and femShep would make a great couple, and that Cerberus likes cats (or aliens, I don't remember).

I know Kelly is a game mechanic to inform us who's romanceable and what's going to happen next, but I still wonder how she knows Jack approaches sex casually. "Female intuition"? She prolly took one look at Jack and made that vague diagnosis.

Or, even funnier, she actually goes down there and talks to Jack, and Jack, who we know hates psychologists and Cerberus, does some trolling like "hey baby, welcome to my hidey hole, take off your shirt make yourself comfortable" and Kelly's like "I should go" and everyone on the sub-deck can hear Jack's bellowing laughter as Kelly sprints towards starboard engineering to find comfort in Zaeed's arms :D

Well, to be fair to Kelly, I'm sure that Jack, being through the correctional system as much as she had, probably had a dozen prison psychiatrists try to get in her head, and I imagine it would be trivial for Cerberus to get their hands on their notes for Kelly to look at before Jack was even on the ship.  I think Jack even has a line somewhere about "don't try that prison psych stuff on me."

Although that goes back to one of the biggest plotholes in the whole Jack storyline: so Cerberus finds about this dangerous, highly powerful biotic criminal, and after extensive research into Jack's background decides that it's just the kind of person that Shepard could use on this highly dangerous suicide mission, and never thinks to mention, "Oh, and by the way, it's a woman" before Shepard goes to pick her up.

Or else, I've got this image in my head of the Illusive Man selecting candidates:

***

TIM: So, Miranda, any other possible recruits in mind to assist Shepard?

Miranda:  Well, there's a violent, possibly criminally insane biotic currently imprisoned at Purgatory named Jack, who...

TIM:  Perfect!  Put him on the list!

Miranda:  But, don't you want a little more research before...

TIM:  No, I'm sure he's fine.  Send the dossier over to the Normandy, Shepard can pick him up from the prison.

Miranda:  But I'm not sure Jack is even a he...

TIM:  Dammit, Miranda, I'm late for my... meeting with the Terra Firma twins!  Just send over what you've got, Shepard can sort it out.

***

Yeah, I suck at this "mini-play" thing.
