Finally heard Jack's post SM comment today while playing ME2. She liked the big explosions, and was glad the TIM wasn't able to mess with the base. Is it a glitch that she usually says nothing after the SM? What did I do differently?

She always had something to say when I did it. Maybe it's based on how much conversation you have with her beforehand, and what you say. I always used up all conversation options with her before the mission. Maybe if you don't talk with her enough she loses interest in talking to you.

It's a glitch. Unless you go and see her first out of the entire crew, she says nothing. No one else suffers from this, so just make a beeline for Jack every time you do the SM and you'll be able to hear everyone's opinions, for better of worse. You should hear what Jack has to say if you spare the base! Hoo-boy...

Ha, I've been wondering what additional/altered lines she says after the "love triangle" stuff if anything, but I haven't got that far yet.

Nothing iirc. I know Jacob has a little something specific to say about Garrus, but he's probably a special case. I also wonder what exactly Miranda's "I want you to myself" line is (and Shep's subsequent "I'm with Jack" in response) but that's for another day.

I love how she says "you need to clear your head", I don't think you've really heard angry Jack until you listen to that.

Yeah, it felt bad, man. "I've turned people inside out for a lot less" and "you sold me out" were as scary. I'll never get on her bad side again.

GeneralSlotts193 wrote...
Yeah, its too bad their wasn't a "friends" path. But from Jack's POV, I wonder if she would interpret being just friended as Shepard taking pity on her. What I mean by this is that Jack is used to people trying to 'help' her, or see her as some sort of charity case. So along comes Shepard who is very nice and considerate but has zero interest in her romantically, what does she think about that I wonder? Does Shepard get immediately lumped together with all those other would be helpers, that looked at her as someone that needed help, almost to the point where they stopped/didn't see her as an actual person. And obviously for most Shepard's the gesture of friendship is genuine but I think Jack would take a long time to see it as such, with Shep essentially having to live down the actions of those the came before. Just throwing it out there...........

Nicely put.  It falls in line with her "you're talking like you want to understand, and that freaks me out" and "you're just pissing around". I think it's safe to say nobody has pursued a serious non-sexual romance with her, so stating that you're not there for sex but you're there for her (and only her) was the clincher.  I could see Shep being content with celibacy, even, but you know, things happen.

With Jack and Shepard still together regardless of romance in ME3, and Shepard wasn't a jerk, it should at least prove that Jack isn't alone. It's still hard to get passed the feeling that you're using her for biotics, especially now that the Reapers are coming, but all those chats down in the subdeck has to mean something.

Ah, I will make sure I maintain my habit of always going to Jack first then.

I too want to know what she says. Next time I'm sparing the base. I bet she hates Shep for it.

There's a reason I always blow the damn thing to bits now. And it's not because I hate TIM. Well, not just because of that. Fear the wrath of Jack!

In other news, can I just say that sometimes writing Jack in a fic is hard! I'm trying to write her reaction to Miranda's kids, and I'm struggling. I think I've got it nailed down though. And I've also got a scene which I think pretty much encapsulates Jack's attitude pretty well towards the end.

Truth.  Maybe we should consider organizing ourself not only as Jackolytes but as "Courtesans," as well?  Anyone?  No?  (Don't banish me for my terrible pun!)

Fine, don't tell me.  Maybe I'll just spare the base and find out myself!

@punchbag
Thanks for the link.

In other news, I took Jack along to recruit Mordin and heard a line I didn't before: "Vorcha territory. If they don't finish off the Blue Suns, I will. Bastards gave me trouble once." I'm sure she doesn't mean Purgatory, so it makes me wonder yet again what happened to Jack. At that point she reminded me of Zaeed with "a-story-for-everything", except not as detailed as Zaeed, naturally. Now these two I could see swapping stories and scaring Shepard :D

Zaeed also said "One girl did all this?" when we were chasing down Jack. I had thought this guy had seen everything, but that's the 2nd time he's been flabbergasted by our biotic overlord

I think I might roll with these two more often and call them my psycho-package.

For Mordin's mission, I always take Grunt and Zaeed. There's a line there that has me rolling on the floor every time.

Zaeed: Standard plague control. Take the bodies out into the street and burn 'em.
Grunt: *sniffs* Anyone else hungry? No?
Zaeed: Is there anything that doesn't make you hungry?
Grunt: I don't know yet...

But I also love Grunt's lines during purgatory.
'This is going to be fun.'
"Move! I want to see how long she'll last!'
"She's blowing everything up! I like her!"

Also, Goat, don't do it! Do not invoke her wrath! I went back and redid the mission just to appease her.

Also, chapter 28 of into the unknown is up now, with a couple of emotional scenes with Jack. Please tell me what you think of how I handled the whole 'Miranda's kids' situation with her.

Hahahaha, that's rich! I took Jack and Grunt and it went like this:

Jack: You never forget the smell of charred flesh.
Grunt: Anyone else hungry? No?
Jack: And they call me twisted.

But I also love Grunt's lines during purgatory.

Weird, I took Grunt and Miranda and all I heard was the third line. Who was your 2nd squaddie?

lol I only did it once on my first playthrough, and I need an import with that decision anyway, but your motive is pretty funny.

Jack: You destroyed that base cuz you knew Cerberus would fvck it up somehow, didn't you? I knew your thick skull would learn something from me.
Shep: No...I did it cuz I knew...you would kick me in the balls...or worse, yell at me...
Jack: Yeah, well, you still learned something.

It's on my list.

------

Anyone know of other hidden Jack dialogue similar to her little spat with Grunt? Any "Talk to Thane" or "Talk to Jack" prompts that offer extra dialogue from a certain character if they're in your squad? I'll eventually look into it but thought I'd ask.

Illium. There's a talk to Jack node where she sparks different reactions from different squaddies.
*spoiler*
She muses about how there are lot's of easy scores there, and then several squaddies react to her.
Samara says how her code would compel her to stop Jack, to which her royal Jackness basically says 'bring it'.
Miranda I think says something along the lines of 'typical'.
Grunt wonders why she'd bother, seeing as there'd be no challenge or honour to it, to which she replies that 'it depends on what you are looking for'.
I believe Garrus says something, too, but I forget what it is.
And my favourite:
Jack: Lot's of money here, soft victims who'd make good targets. (Can't remember the exact wording)
Jacob: Jack, no.
Jack: What? I'm just saying....

I always laugh at Jacob's tone here. It's like reigining in a dog that looks like it's gonna ****** on your boss' shiny car.

Also, one other piece of Jack dialogue I like is during the Long Walk. Everyone else says something along the lines of 'you're leaving the barrier' if you walk too far ahead, and Miranda's tone frankly sounds far too naggy (When I heard her say it I almost stayed out of the barrier just to spite her for that. That'll teach her not to take that tone with me!). But with Jack she just shouts 'GET BACK IN THE BARRIER!'. You do not argue with that. Ever. Everyone else mutters something about what you're doing, but my Jack commands you to get your ass in line.

Hahahahah! That is so awesome. I'm gonna go to Illium with Jack and Jacob asap. I'm curious what Garrus says too, since he's a cop. I always thought those two would be a great example of opposites making a great team.

From your most recent posts I have concluded that your Shepard is afraid of Jack  I know what you mean tho, I left the barrier for some ammo and I remember those words well. But it's only bcuz she cares :P

Hey, fainmaca isn't the only one with a Shepard who's intimidated by Jack. My canon!Shep really doesn't know what to do with her. He wants to help her, but he knows he doesn't have the necessary credentials (psychiatry degree, resume replete with badassery, penchant for minding other people's business, nine lives) to do it. He mostly just stays away from her. (Also, he's afraid of being ninja romanced by Jack. Imagine accidentally romancing Jack. That "you've got the wrong idea" conversation is not one my Shep wants to have).

As for what my favorite Jack line is.... *glances down at sig* Actually, while I do love that entire conversation, the best line is when you ask her about stealing the tank, and her only explanation is "Parades are boring. I helped." I've got two younger batsisters who were Girl Scouts. Every conceivable excuse our town had to throw a parade meant that they were marching in it. And I was stuck watching it. Parades are boring. Also, the way she says it is so matter-of-fact and deadpan. I always crack up.

Actually, Jack's voice gets all lusty, and she says "that would be interesting". I had thought that Jacob and Samara were the only people that commented, and I've been fairly thorough with this. But maybe my game is just messed, since I can't seem to get anyone to comment during the suicide mission when TIM offers the plan to keep the base.

Which is better from a character development perspective?

1. Ordering Jack to kill Aresh but she herself decides not too because it won't fix her (Don't take Renegade interrupt)
OR
2. Convincing Jack not to kill Aresh because revenge won't solve anything (Take Paragon interrupt)

Basically is her deciding better or should do it for her and tell her why it's wrong.

Well, since she'll always do the opposite (if you don't take the paragon/renegade option), it's not about her deciding Aresh's fate, it's about her DOING THE OPPOSITE OF WHAT SHE'S TOLD. Something like "I don't take orders from anyone, I'm free to do whatever I want" which is awesome in my opinion. How many squadmates/companions/party members have ever openly challenged the protagonist?

If I didn't know that Jack would always do the opposite of what she's ordered, I'd say that her deciding to spare Aresh on her own would be my preferred character development arc. A choice is always more powerful if you make it on your own (IMHO). Arguably, Jack reaches the decision to kill or spare Aresh independently regardless of whether or not Shepard makes an argument for it, but I prefer a scenario where she doesn't have to be persuaded.

I don't think will always do the opposite if what she is ordered to do. After or if she spared Aresh I think she has changed enough to know specifically what she wants in the universe. I think before all she wanted to do is the opposite of whatever she was told. After I think she knows what her place in the universe is which involves taking or refusing orders.

Yes, I think Wrex is the only other exception. Well, maybe Zaeed as well, sort of. But I think Jack takes the cake by far (I have never used that expression, did I use it right?).

btw Nick, I don't know if I will ever tire of "You'll never be better than Commander Shepard"... it's so comical imo. Don't ever remove it from your sig.

I had no idea you can tell her to shoot him and she chooses not to if you don't interrupt. Idk if I like Shepard suggesting she shoot him tho, I need to see the context.

I choose the "I'm listening" option and usually someone pipes after Shepard says "maybe it's for the best".  I haven't heard anything from Jack and only heard TIM say "an alien can't appreciate what this means for humanity" so I also wonder what he would say to a human not named Miranda warning you not to save the CB.

Ninjamance? How? That was one thing I felt they fixed from ME1.
And indeed Jack is intimidating, I was saying some seem to be deathly afraid of her  my full paragon is, that's for sure.

*glances down at sig* Actually, while I do love that entire conversation, the best line is when you ask her about stealing the tank.

A lot of my favorite lines are in that convo. It's a disservice to even have a favorite line, but there's a few that chill me to the bone, like "Aint saying it was easy. Not everything is spur of the moment. Sometimes you have to work to give people what they deserve." Or "Good lesson. Simpler to just kill them all". After that line I was certain whoever was the VA of this woman had taken a human life at one point. And then she tops it off with a chuckling "They really liked that moon".  Chills, I tell you.

Also, best ending to a convo.
