I'm returning after a year-long slumber from Mass Effect......ashamed to say I've only recently gotten to play ME3 over Christmas
Actually a bit off-topic....but ME3 is one of the few computer games I've played in quite a while now, I dunno......has anybody noticed over the last year or so, a sharp decline in computer games' quality?
Been disappointed with quite a lot of games recently.......and the ones I've enjoyed or hear good things about like.....Far cry 3......'tis still a sequel
Anyway glad to be back guys

Hey Slurms, been a while, ha. Yeah, most of the Jackolytes aren't that active that much on BSN and the ME3 section has been closed off... for reasons, haha.
Well this won't do at all........the situation must be remedied
Erm....what reasons?
Yeah it has been a while, probably been dreading my return with its subsequent spamming of threads with random pictures

There are two sides, and very little middle ground. either you're a Bioware brown-noser who has no idea what Mass Effect is supposed to be about, or your a whiny Retaker who is just too dumb to understand the scope of the ending.
Those in the middle... become casualties.
If your asking for our opinions, though? mine is: a decent game, but a terrible experience if you're familiar with the lore/story so far. Newcomers like it more than those who've played from the start, and those who came to it from the previous titles found it severely lacking in what it promised. IMHO: 6.5/10. Jumps up to a 7.5/10 if this is your first taste of Mass Effect.
And I didn't like Jack's part much at all. The redesign rustled my jimmies considerably. But hey, she's much more popular now. So much for the comment the art book makes that she should not be 'a supermodel with ink'.

Ohh I haven't reached the ending yet
Jah, I've been really enjoying it....playing it into the wee hours.....but I've been a bit put off though by not only by Jack's bit but also....I dunno, I feel like carrying a previous save file into ME3 has very real little consequence, think its so minimal, wouldn't really have made much difference if I'd started a new game
I shall wait 'till the ending though......what is MEHEM by the way?
Excuse me, there are clementines to eat here

yeah, pretty much - the ending is only part of the problem but far and away the biggest - it is a lot of fun in many ways but if your primary focus is the story and you're expecting narrative clarity, resolution of major plot lines and character arcs, and closure - may I suggest you curl up with a good book?
...still - and I don't believe for a minute Casey and the gang actually planned anything this deep - the ending brouhaha has stimulated more interest and hotly contested debating points than the US congress's over the Fecal Cliff...certainly has helped keep the franchise alive - that and multiplayer - and have generating some impressive alternative endings (Koobismo's Marauder Shields graphic novelette is a mandatory read) and lately alternative ending mods - even without the benefit of a proper SDK - ME fans are nothing if not committed (or certifiable) and apparently cannot take "No" or "gtfo" from BW for an answer...
MEHEM - social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/368/index/14795358/1 is an acronym for the so-called "Mass Effect Happy Ending Mod" - something of a misnomer since any ending to this series has a lot of loss, death and destruction to look back upon - MrFob is the author and has garnerd a great deal of encouragement, help and support (non-$) - He has also worked out another alternative which more closely tracks the EC - MEEM (which he says he actually prefers as being closer to BW canon) notwithstanding, MEHEM has gotten all the buzz, and was even (erronously) attributed to BW by some hapless media hack...you can check'em all out on Utube once you finish the game (btw - they can only be installed on pc) [in the interest of full disclosure, I have not yet run MEHEM - awaiting outcome of present playthrough...also new version due within a few weeks or so...)
PS - if you'r a fan of eyecandy, are on PC and have a decent machine, you may want to check out the outpouring of hi-rez mods - most require text mod - Smarteck's thread is more or less ModCentral w/ links to all the greats - Jeanluc, Deadmeat, etc as well as his own and PCGamer just included it in Best Mods of2012...
social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/368/index/9735492/1 Here's a sample...

...and from ME2, courtesy of JeanLuc...

Saltisgood has made a neat ModSwitcher that allows the option to select some hi-rez textures at launch (no lag or other texmod related issues) and it also works with texmod. social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/368/index/15144632 Later sections of that thread are mucking about with a new method of directly modding the game files to hi-rez - apparently works tho some seem to have issues - more work than I'm ready for atm - just a warning that if you open up the last pages you may find yourself hip deep in geekology - not necessary for the basic modswitcher...
...'course, if you get into to this stuff, you'll never have time to finish the game...

Seems to spell out my own sentiments pretty well, actually. I liked the gameplay okay, and there were some grand moments, but a lot of things just didn't sit well with me, besides the notorious ending, of course. Jack's redesign and general role in ME3 chief among them. 6.5 seems accurate.
Oh yeah, forgot to add: Happy New Year, y'all. I'd try to work something Jack-esque into that, but I'm fairly certain that would just get me banned.

As to the other dlc (Omega, Leviathan) - I've spent more on a bad lunch so I don't mind paying for these - but don't measure up to LotSB - Leviathan is tied into the main plot, omega is really a side mission - neither is necessary - so in order of importance, From Ashes, Leviathan, Omega.
xbox has its charms I'm sure - been a pc guy myself since Zork I - but even so, you've got the Nightfables work here, pc mods on utube , the marauder shields comics - After you finish the game, if you find the endings leave something to be desired, you can still check out mehem on youtube - MrFob and others are working toward including options for a scene with ME2 LIs so in time, Ms Nought may be able to make a final appearance...
...and do give MP a try - I was firmly opposed at the beginning - Its simply a lot of fun, free (you can buy packs with credits earned in-game or w bioware points) and you'll find SP combat something of a breeze after not too long...
....FOOOR TOOCHANKAAAAA.......
