This link its still working, the coalesced.ini seems to be pretty complete except that the weapon and power wheels are not visible. The second link below is for a jpeg that shows how the wheels work.

Do you think you could show the command lines instead of just the ini file? I've already made a ton of changes to the ini, and I was hoping to implement the gamepad controls, not overwrite the changes I already made.

Just wondering, does this only work for 360 controllers? or am I able to use any pc gamepad?

Given that it's using something built-in to the game, I imagine it's for XInput, rather than the more broadly-compatible DirectInput. XInput is mainly 360 controllers. Although I think there are more and more XInput-compatible controllers from third-party vendors these days.

Sorry for necro-ing a thread. I'm considering buying a 360 controller if I can get one cheap enough for Super Meat Boy, Burnout Paradise and a few other console-y games. If I could play my ME games with it that would be great but (by the looks of that power wheel) it's not currently possible with ME2. I had a suggestion though; I believe I read somewhere on this forum that it is possible to extract files from the 360 version (with the correct hardware) so in theory is there any reason why you couldn't grab the needed files from there?

Has there been any further development in enabling the controller functions in this game?

Could someone explain to me how I activate only the left analog stick and the A button of the Xbox360 Gamepad for the game.
I plan to combine it with xpadder, I was trying to do it by my self but with no success.
I got notepad++ and the ME2IniFixer tool
and thx for the coalesced.ini

I was looking to do something similar and I managed to get analogue stick movement working with my non xbox controller and without xpadder.
Download a program called x360ce (google it) and copy the exe into your Mass Effect 2\\Binaries folder. Run it and it will ask to install some files say yes to all. This program will allow any existing controllers connected to act as an xbox 360 controller. Setup the axis and buttons by mapping your existing controller to the pictured xbox 360 controller (use the drop down menus as it doesn't always detect).
Next go into your binaries folder and find the file it has just created: xinput1_3.dll
Make two copies of this dll file in the same place in your binaries folder and rename them: xinput1_3.dll and xinput9_1_0.dll .
Now open your coalesced.ini in notepad++ and find: [SFXGame.SFXGameModeBase]
You'll see the lines below it:
Bindings=( Name="PC_StrafeLeft", Command="Axis aStrafe Speed=-1.0" )
Bindings=( Name="PC_StrafeRight", Command="Axis aStrafe Speed=+1.0" )
Bindings=( Name="PC_MoveForward", Command="Axis aBaseY Speed=1.0" )
Bindings=( Name="PC_MoveBackward", Command="Axis aBaseY Speed=-1.0" )
You can turn these off by putting in semicolons before each line:
; Bindings=( Name="PC_StrafeLeft", Command="Axis aStrafe Speed=-1.0" )
; Bindings=( Name="PC_StrafeRight", Command="Axis aStrafe Speed=+1.0" )
; Bindings=( Name="PC_MoveForward", Command="Axis aBaseY Speed=1.0" )
; Bindings=( Name="PC_MoveBackward", Command="Axis aBaseY Speed=-1.0" )
Now put these lines in below underneath the 4 you have just turned off:
Bindings=(Name="XboxTypeS_LeftX",Command="Axis aStrafe Speed=1.0 DeadZone=0.2")
Bindings=(Name="XboxTypeS_LeftY",Command="Axis aBaseY Speed=1.0 DeadZone=0.2")
Now save your coalesced.ini file and run the ME2inifixer.
Don't forget to map your axis by running the x360ce program now in your binaries folder. If you map your stick to the 360 controller left stick on the diagram of the program, you will now have analogue movement in your game
All the triggers, axis and buttons can be mapped like this to ANY third party controller using x360ce. If you want to use the A button to for example swap back to last weapon you just add the line below [SFXGame.SFXGameModeBase] :
Bindings=(Name="XboxTypeS_A",Command="TrySwapWeapon")
I have not tried this with an actual xbox 360 controller but the analogue stick on my speedpad now works

Unfortunately i don't have ME2 anymore, i got lucky and futureshop gave me a full refund.
The 360 UI is much more broken on this one than it was in ME1 (most of the 360 stuff was left intact), Most of the UI still can be reactivated, but won't respond to any button presses, not even from the keyboard,. I was hoping i could at least bring back the 360 conversation wheel but theres no cursor to choose any answer.
I hope you'll succeed in bringing back 360 controller functionnality, good luck!
How on earth is getting a refund on ME2 lucky??

Getting a refund on any PC game is lucky these days, especially if it has a Steampowered key. The whole gamepad issue is why I won't touch ME1 & 2 on PC. Don't get me wrong, I'd rather own them on PC than Xbox, they look and perform better. But for a game of this length I'd simply prefer my big-screen and lay-z-boy, and my HTPC can handle them fine. I'd even own them on PC & Xbox and just dabble with the PC version but this gamepad exclusion feels like a forced choice.
